不畏寒暑，在瓦屋上穿梭工作，身手比年輕人還要靈活的泥水師傅傅明光，是客家建築最後一代傳統習藝出身的匠師，他以師承古法的鋪瓦技藝，和謹慎細心的職人精神，獲得文化部頒定為土水修造技術瓦作類指定保存者，俗稱人間國寶，他同時也是目前業界現場施工匠師中，年紀最長者。
本片以五個月時間，全面記錄他新建瓦作屋頂的過程，從上樑、釘桷仔皮、做瓦口、做邊帶、彩繪、剪黏、鋪瓦到完成，首次曝光傅明光匠師的獨家技藝，一窺傳統民宅屋頂起建的奧妙！
傅明光，1940年出生於新竹竹東，十六歲起習藝，因為勤奮好學肯吃苦，成為全方位的傳統建築師，但由於時代潮流，約三十幾歲後，完全投入現代鋼筋水泥建築，直到七十歲時參與古蹟修復，以不漏水的技術，成為傳統瓦作的代表匠師。2022年底，在鍾心怡建築師的奔走下，文化部文資局特聘傅明光在竹北舉辦瓦作傳習班，希望他的珍貴技藝能夠傳承，讓傳統的紅瓦屋頂，永遠存續在這片土地上。
How does an obsolete craftsman lay a beautiful and quaint red tile roof？
Being more vigorous and agile than young men, Ming-Guang Fu, the master of bricklayer, works on rooftops in hot and cold weather with strong will. He is the last generation of traditional Hakka architectural craftsman. Because of his skills in traditional roof tiling and strict discipline, he was honored as an eminent craftsman of traditional roof work(tiling) by Bureau of Cultural Heritage and reckoned a living human treasure. He is also the oldest craftsman on-site at present.
It took five months of work to shot the entire process of tile roofing, including placing beams, nailing rafters, sealing edges of a tiled roof, making vertical ridges, color painting, pasting decorations and tiling while he was working on a new hose. His unique skills will be revealed unprecedentedly in this documentary. Let’s explore more about the roof tiling of traditional residences.
Ming-Guang Fu was born in 1940, in Zhudong, Hsinchu and began his apprenticeship in 16. He became an all-round traditional architectural craftsman after years of diligent learning. In his 30s, he started to follow the trend of building reinforced concrete constructions. He has engaged in restoration of heritages since he was about 70 years old. He prevents roofs from leaking without a modern waterproof layer. His excellent skills have made him a model master of traditional roof tiling.
Thanks to effort of architect Xin-Yi Zhong, Bureau of Cultural Heritage invited Fu to teach roof tiling in Zhubei at the end of 2022. Hopefully, his excellent skills and traditional red-tiled roofs will be preserved and long-lasting in our land.
