Absolutely the most ambitious Puppet Combo title so far. He's nailed the old slasher killer vibe, and it's retro gameplay without being too rough an experience. Puppet Combo just keeps on impressing me, and I can't wait to see them develop bigger, more complicated games.
They are getting good at this. This is really a great improvement. I hope they continue this way.

You don’t just double-tap in the horror genre… you fucken billion-tap, burn their corpse, and grind up the remaining bones until it’s nothing.
Fr! why the MCs never try to finish off the killer/monster. They either just hit them once then leave without bothering to take away their weapon or mortally wound them. You'd want the killer to stay dead so just kill them. The only logical explanation is they're too scared to get close to the body which i'd kinda get but in a fit of desparation and 'fight of flight' tried to do something.
If Silent Hill has taught us anything....always double tap just to be sure.

This is why I never go into the endless void section which is usually right next to the real serial killers section, weird choice of placement really.
I want to praise this game:
The child sequence was a great set up and had bits which made multiple outcomes feel possible.
The Red Light but also blocking the save room prevents wasted saves for a scare.
It is rare to see a game with good starting bits and proper player precautions.
So odd that what is basically an enhanced ps1 game (or tries to be so) ends up being so enticing in its own right.

It’s a really unique looking game, but I kinda wish the whole thing had of taken place inside the mall. There’s a lot of opportunity for hiding spots and scares in an entire mall, and it’s less cliche for a horror game than an abandoned house. Maybe some one should jump on that and make a good shopping mall horror game, with mannequins and everything. Haha
With the 'Security Breach' trailer, we might get that.

It was kinda obvious it was Tom when you look into it. I started to sus Tom when he came back after being missing and just somehow knew something is wrong here and urge you along to find the exit (to start the easter hunt).
The first real hint is when he "go for a bathroom break" and during that time frame the van got wrecked by someone.
The part where you watch the tape of him getting "murdered" is also pretty obvious. It was the only death (beside the real estate agent) that did not show the victim being killed or that there was a body. All the kills are brutal with sprays of blood, yet the camera caught none of it.

It was pretty scary. The intro at the mall, the house itself. The murders themselves weren't frightening - but seeing the skeletons was awful as well as the tension from not knowing where he would be. That tense anticipation was even better bc he _didn't_ turn up that often.
Great job - loved the way you prepared by first scoping out the house, escape routes, hiding spots before having to face the killer. Smart game play, MBH!

When Tom was in the basement just chilling by that back door and then magically gave you a key that he “found,” I knew he was likely the killer. I know it’s a game, but that’s one sick dude to do something like that.
Y'know, one of these days I'd like to see a stealth horror game that's 90% running away from killers/monsters, but every once in a while you wander under a full moon, turn into a werewolf, and then turn the table on your wouldbe killers, who now try to run and hide from YOU. I wouldn't mind seeing Puppet Combo doing a game like that.

Seeing Zipper in the distance, partially hidden by a tree, staring at you until you get a bit closer and he starts hopping in place, is one of the scariest things to ever happen to me in Animal Crossing New Horizons.
This game definitely had me sitting upright with all of the narrow corridors and fixed camera shots. The positions of the skeletons amplified the fear factor. The implications felt more gut wrenching than if the people were alive, as morbid as that sounds. I suppose it's the fact that the player can't save them, so there is this bitterness mixed with the paranoia of "What if that was my character? Or one of the dead children?" The outro music was pretty hot. Haha.
Time Stamp On Skeletons?
Puppet Combo here went balls out crazy with the killer in the most subtle and clever ways. He left it all to the environment to tell the story and build implications about WHAT EXACTLY was he (the killer) doing with the kidnapped kids, and daaaamn did it work wonders - it is, without a doubt in my mind, some of the most harrowing, uncomfortable and genuinely scary bits of environmental storytelling I've seen and one of the best examples of "Show, don't tell", Aaaaand do I wish now that I was actually playing the game myself to discover and experience that discovery first hand. I am simply impressed.

The skeletons just made me really, really sad... Especially the one with the child skeleton in... a certain position on a table. Jesus Christ..

What I really like about this game is that the two female characters, Emma and Dana, aren't aggressive against each other. A lot of media tends to pit women together because of some kind of jealousy or rivalry, but here, I'm glad we just see two women supporting each other even when they're [bullied] by their boss.

You're smart, saw right through it! I still got caught off guard by the twist at the end, but it was a satisfying explanation for everything happening the way it did.
The bathroom break was an excuse to sabotage the vehicle while no one was looking and Tom giving Emma a key to "help her out" was a clever way of cementing himself as reliable while simultaneously initiating his hunt. Truly horrifying.

OK calling it after the the opening: Janitor Jack is the bunny.
He conviniently doesn't have a phone in the office. Locks the door despite having now reason to believe the child. And then the easter bunny shows up a while after he leaves and somehow knows the child is in the office despite there being no sign that the child was there.
You were wrong, they was a rare thing that happens when you look at the window after the lights go out, that the easter ripper can be seen running near the entry of the room where janitor jack went, which he probably kills jack and steals the keys to the room that jack locked, jack probably said something to the easter ripper.

Dana: hers is the Death card; meaning the end of a cycle or just the end of something that you used to do. Death means change and letting go, it might symbolize how Dana wanted to quit for a better job.
Gary: his is The Hanged man; it means indecision and uncertainty, though it can also mean going through trials. I’m not sure how this shows him, or if it’s supposed to mean anything connected to him, please tell me if you know.
Real estate agent: their was Justice; we don’t know anything about them so I don’t know the connection but Justice means truth, karma, law and consequences.
Piano: The Fool; it means madness, delirium, freedom, innocence and recklessness. Perhaps it’s foreshadowing the truth at the end?

One of the things i actually loved about this game, is if you listen carefully during the door 'loading' scenes, you can hear the sound of a disk reading and writing to a harddrive. It's little details like this I just love.

As someone who works retail in a mall, closed malls at night are creepy as hell, especially when only some of the lights are on and the music's still playing. I always book it as fast as I can because no way am I getting got by some horror monster.

As a PS1-inspired game it's pretty alright! I do enjoy the close angles and the the overall atmosphere of the game, it's just that I feel a bit more polish could've helped in certain areas, but it still looks fun enough!

I liked this game up to the point of when I was searching a dresser and the killer entered in the room from behind me. I was cornered so I figured I was for sure dead but I decided to start swinging my fire poker. I hit him 4 times then he just turned tail and ran as I chased him out the door. Completely removed the fear I had of him lmao. Edited to also mention that I thought it was still a cool game, just not scary anymore,

I mean, guns are pretty great for self-defense, yeah, but in this situation, where a handgun has just been retrieved from where it sat, presumably abandoned, for potentially eleven years in its own grime... I wouldn't assume that one to be the most reliable thing without a good breaking down, scrubbing, and oiling. I wouldn't be putting down the fireplace poker any time soon, let's just say.
Ok not going to lie, when it got to the second half of the game with the news reporters at the house,
I got some major flashbacks to that 1988 Umberto Lenzi movie, GhostHouse
The "there's evil" moment in the second half was a real shocker, it was great. Really impressive game, though it went deep into B-movie territory at the end. Intentionally, but, yeah. Kind of a whiplash.
