2023 Maserati Grecale Trofeo Review | True Trident SUV

Join us as we review the 2023 Maserati Grecale Trofeo.
The last time I got behind the wheel of a Maserati, the pandemic was in full swing. The automaker invited me to Willow Springs Raceway for a few laps of its freshly minted Trofeo lineup, comprising - the Levante, Ghibli, and Quattroporte.
Without the Roma-chic flat-plane crank and equal-length exhausts, the Trofeo trio was sedate, tame, and almost boring. Detracting from the experience was a cabin that looked like it had been plucked from a Chrysler’s clearance rack.
You can imagine my skepticism, then, when Maserati dropped a Grecale Trofeo on my driveway. Happily, with 523 horsepower and 457 pound-feet at my disposal, I was as wrong about the Grecale Trofeo as I was about its Ghibli sibling.

Lower screen operations for Headlights, Seat Settings/Memory, Interior Lighting are all designed to be presets once programed. So you will not need to adjust them once set-up to your liking. Your screens appear to not have the latest software updates. The new updates make all screens operate with high speed contact accuracy. Comparing it to a Macan is an absolute mistake. 1st, the Grecale is easily 2 size classes larger in the interior. Grecale is dimensionally similar to a Porsche Cayenne in the area of interior space and comfort. I am 6ft tall and I do not even fit in the backseat of a Macan. Leg and head room in a Macan is compact in size. 2nd, one could say that any Porsche SUV is built on the biggest platform/component sharing manufacturer in the world, Volkswagen. The sweet spot for the Grecale may be the Modena. 330HP mild Hybrid that goes 0-100km-per-hour in 5 seconds and gets 8.0L/100 kms fuel economy, it is very impressive. You did forget to talk about the mind blowing audio/speaker system by the Italian, world renowned Sonus Faber (not Sonos) speaker company. It is quite spectacular. The voice recognition system along with the complete GOOGLE MAPS NAVIGATION SYSTEM, embarrasses any other manufacturer's operating systems in the market. The whole system operates with ALEXA & Touch Screen commands. The details, finishes and execution of the Premium Package equipped vehicles are very impressive. And the drive is fun and engaging every time. The chassis feels very balanced and connected. FORZA MASERATI!

I’ve been a Porsche owner of Carrera, Cayman S, Macan GTS, and Taycan 4S. This vehicle is very nice. Handles well, 0-60 in 3.6 seconds, faster than my Taycan, much more room than the Macan. The Manuel drive mode is fun. I’d prefer a gear box, but still a great car to drive in the city or freeway.

I like the looks of the Grecale Trofeo. The performance is definitely impressive for a a midsize sporty SUV. Too many auto makers are over thinking the touch screen application. Every function should not be arranged on the screen like a Tesla Model 3. For example, the lights should be auto on/off with auto high/low beam. In addition the air suspension is so nice as long as it working; however, I don't believe any manufacturer has figured out how to make air suspension dependable enough to last for a long time. And then there is that astronomical price point that makes one dizzy. I know Maseratis are expensive, but they might have priced themselves out of the market with this offering.

You did not do this vehicle justice on the review. You left out so many options it's ridiculous, and this is coming from someone who owns this vehicle!
