    20 years after another WC final loss, I think that it's true that 2003 team was really a great point for Indian cricket.. as a kid it was the first time I saw India walloping every team bar Aussies that stood in their way. Now looking at the Aussie teams we faced, there's no doubt that Aus 2003 might be the greatest ODI team ever. Those were some epic times indeed.

    Ganguly seems to be a very underrated captain. He gave the winner's mentality and stronger temperament to the players. When Dhoni took over the players knew they were going to be no passengers everyone had to perform. Greg Chapple was a big factor to this shift in mind set.

    Some of the advantages India had in 2003 WC
    1. Kenya’s upset win over SL and NZ’s decision of not travelling to Kenya , gave Kenya a walk over to the super 6. India had one win in the super 6 more or less guaranteed .
    2. SA’s shock exit from the World Cup ,made it easier for India in the super 6. One strong opposition and the host was effectively out of the super 6.
    3. England’s refusal to travel To Zimbabwe , combined with the washout of pak vs zim match , meant Zimbabwe would slip through to the super 6. If eng/pak would have made it instead of zim, Kenya may not have been able to beat either of them , and reach the semis
    The wins over Eng, Pak, NZ and SL were no doubt great and memorable. And having Australia in the same group was certainly a big challenge .

    Only one player in that so called special team was too pathetic and his role in that team was absolutely nothing. He was initially in the team for unknown reasons which later Ganguly said due to superstitious factor, he was there and Ganguly wanted to carry on the winning momentum with the unchanged team but that shouldn't have done it. Ganguly should have included a better all rounder instead of that good for nothing player, Dinesh Mongia so as to add the value in both the departments. Mongia used to copy Gibbs in opening the mouth while playing shots but was not even 1% close to the class of Gibbs. Who knows, that 1 very important change could have won them the world cup.

    Ganguly was a great Captain but also made some wrong decisions. Most of the finals we lost under him.
    But Ganguly gave a team to Dhoni to win big finals.

    • @RC-ym5cm
      @RC-ym5cm Před 2 měsíci +7

      most of the finals were against Aussies and Sri Lankans...those two were far superior teams on paper, cant do much about it......nobody won more difficult games (as captain) than Ganguly...

    • @neeleshranjankumar
      @neeleshranjankumar Před 2 měsíci

      Ganguly decision was right, maybe Australia bowling was too strong enough to beat us in final.
      Remember match was played in Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg. 4 year later South Africa chase down 434 runs in ODI.
      Wanderers Stadium is always high scoring ground, but that day Rain & WC Final Pressure costs us WORLD CUP.

    • @RC-ym5cm
      @RC-ym5cm Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@neeleshranjankumar yes...the wanderers pitch had a hint of moisture at the toss, which quickly dried up when the match started.

    • @haldersubrata
      @haldersubrata Před 2 měsíci +4

      That australlia 8 to 9 players single handedly could destroy any team. They were unbeatable- Hayden,Gilchrist,ponting,waugh, shane, macgarth etc,so many greats in the same team. Both 2003 and 2007 final ,they destroyed opposition in first 10 overs

    • @nitlover8319
      @nitlover8319 Před 2 měsíci +2

      Most teams would have already started with excuses if bowler like Warne before 2003 WC or Lee before 2007 WC but that was Australia
