Isn't the argument for neoliberalism itself a strawman? These are discussed in academia, and folks in academia makes back and forth strawman's that suits your view point. Countries follow a general direction of what is successful. For example, the American way of capitalism has not changed much in the last 50 years. America has always used a combination of market forces and government intervention to promote economic growth and development. This has included providing subsidies to enable key industries in the private sector, regulating markets to prevent monopolies and other forms of market power, and using fiscal and monetary policy to stabilize the economy. Tesla, Boeing, SpaceX etc are shining examples, so is solar and wind energy renewable market in America. Of course these industries produce ultra wealthy individuals like Elon Musk (or Adani in a more rudimentary economy like India). While America does not follow textbook capitalism, it does have a strong market-based economy. However, the government does play a role in the economy, and this role has been increasing in recent years. This is due to a number of factors, including the increasing complexity of the economy, the growing role of technology, and the need to address social and environmental problems. If neoliberalism is BS, then what do we call the American way of capitalism? I would call it hybrid capitalism or managed capitalism. This is because it combines elements of both capitalism and socialism. The government plays a role in the economy, but it does not control the economy. The private sector is still the primary driver of economic growth. Also, I did not understand where Rajagopal was going with his argument. Did you mean to say that communism or more socialist concepts are better than liberal concepts? It's easy to be an armchair economist and critique. But if someone asks you, "What works for most of the population?" you should have an answer.
Always find Rajagopal's argument having no value outside economic text book theories. It is always negative as well. Never have I heard him talking about an economic system that is successful and that works.
Does this model work for the people or oligarchs of the US?? From what I've read, US middle class isn't growing and real wage hasn't gone up since a decade or so. US has the biggest percapita spending on healthcare and among the worst performers in the developed world.
He is biased towards socialism and since he cannot defend traditional communist principles/policies, he is trying to find the faults in capitalism and offering those as arguments for whitewashing socialism/communism(which he cannot directly prove as better than capitalism)
About population, he is saying of population that can consume, which is decreasing. Fall in urban population is happening, some countries in africa may be artificially kept poor to supply labour. But who is going to buy or consume thats what he is asking. American model after Reagan is textbook neoliberal, it is not hybrid model as you say. In neoliberal economy, often times government decides some companies as "too big to fail" and give them subsidies to keep them afloat. Neoliberalism donot hate subsidies to rich, it work on such subsidy to rich. Neoliberalism advocates avoiding bankruptcy of businesses, which earlier used to be shutdown by each business cycle. It advocates special economic zones like california(for tech) in america, all support for corporations on beleif of "endless growth/production model". They just dont want labour to get any benefit or subsidy as it will lead to fearlessness in labour market. This inturn lead to fall in consumption.

Special economic zone and subsidies.. അതാണ്‌ govt ഇടപെടൽ എന്ന് പറയണ സാധനം. അല്ലാതെ technology ഉണ്ടാക്കികൊണ്ടുവരലല്ല. അതത് രാജ്യങ്ങളിലെ Govt. Policy അനുസരിച്ച് ഇത്രപേർക്ക് തൊഴിലവസരം ഉണ്ടാക്കണം എന്ന ധാരണ അനുസരിച്ചുതന്നെയാണ് ലോകത്തിലെ പല കമ്പനികളും ഏത് രാജ്യത്തിലും work ചെയ്യുന്നേ. അല്ല, ഇങ്ങനൊക്കെയാണ് govt. ഇടപെടുന്നെ എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞ് വരികയായിരുന്നു 🙏

സർക്കാർ സർവ്വീസിലും ജനപ്രതിനിധികൾക്കും ഇന്നു കൊടുക്കുന്ന ശമ്പളം, പെൻഷൻ എന്നിവ പകുതിയാക്കിയാൽ പോലും ഇഷ്ടം പോലെ ആളുകളെ ജോലിക്കു കിട്ടും !!
