2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L Review: Better Than the Grand Wagoneer?

  • čas přidán 12. 08. 2024
  • The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L is all-new and one of several three-row Jeeps released, alongside the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer. The WK/WK2 platform, developed alongside Mercedes-Benz, is no more and the 2022 Grand Cherokee L rides on a stretched version of the '22 Grand Cherokee's all-new platform. We spent time with this 2022 Grand Cherokee L Summit Reserve, powered by the 3.6L Pentastar V6, and despite wishing for more appropriate engine options, found the #GrandCherokeeL to be perhaps a better reboot of the OG 1991 Grand Wagoneer than the actual 2022 Grand Wagoneer. What do YOU think?

    Of all the reviews -Doug M, TFL, Redline, etc- yours was perhaps the most convincing. Not sure if you focused on things I would focus on -feel, cargo space, comparison to a truck, sound system, etc, but your delivery was the single.most convincing of all the "bigger' reviewers. Fantastic work. You may have helped me make a $66k decision!

    This sounded like a very honest and objective review. One I would rely on when the finally makes it to Europe. However, I would like some more details on the interior quality as there have been reports by some reviewers that the fitting was a bit loose at places and the rear doors felt very light as compared to the front ones. Overall, there have been a lot of reviews on this car but only a few being truthful, like yours. Keep up the good work!

    I have a 2021 GC L Summit Reserve and travelled across Canada doing over 6,000 miles pulling a 18 foot travel trailer weighing over 4,500 pounds plus the stuff in the vehicle. The V6 was at his limit climbing the hills in the rockies forcing me to manual shifting but aside that limit, this Jeep is fantastic and I really love it.

I didn’t feel trying to get on on ramps or out of the way of bad drivers was quick enough. My new 2023 76k both where MSRP ordered May 16 picked up Sept 01

    I don't think a Grand Cherokee Summit is in the same class as a Honda Pilot, or a Pathfinder, anymore. Now It's closer to an Audi, Bmw, and Mercedes.

    • @OutMotorsports
      @OutMotorsports  Před 2 lety +1

      The Summit Reserve is not, but the lower trim levels of Grand Cherokee L are priced to be competitive against more mainstream makes/models of three-row crossover, and all trims offer the same Pentastar V6, hence the comparison. If you look at the Germans, they all offer either forced induction or electrification as part of their drivetrain offerings. Jeep knows they need to do something with the drivetrains offered here, and we think they will soon.

  • @theriseagainhomestead1055

    Love our Summit Reserve Hemi! Just an amazing vehicle overall....oh, and I agree with your thoughts on the Grand Wagoneer piece....it feels very "trucky" because it's a truck....it's based on the RAM 1500 platform, so basically another body on frame SUV 🤷🏽‍♂️

    Jeeze, I want to marry this man. What a thoughtful, intelligent, and cohesive review of this car. I have the 2 row Grand Cherokee Summit Reserve and I love 99% of it. It's a great car in almost every way. The only slight let down is the 3.6L Pentastar V6. Look, it's a good engine. It's reliable, sounds good, and it's refined for a 10 year old design. However, it lacks to torque that this car really needs to keep it in that X5 / Q8 / GLE area. Here's hoping Jeep brings the Hurricane I-6 Turbo to this. With that engine (especially the H.O. verson), this would be unbeatable. Great review!

    Great detailed review. I currently have a Telluride SX Prestige and am thinking about moving to a Summit Reserve L in the next year or two if and only if it gets the 3L turbo I-6. These N/A V6s have to work really hard to make these heavy trucks. I want to tow a 24' boat which is well beyond what the Telluride could handle.

      It’s not bad… 3rd row is fine. Full size SUVs are MASSIVE and don’t fit in my standard garage with ease.
      This is the best mid size 3 row. Only one offered with a V8, best interior, best capability.
      Yes the V8 is thirsty… I don’t care. It’s tried tested and true and dead simple.
      Test drive a Hemi Summit Reserve and gain your own opinion.

    You almost got the 4WD systems correct. It's actually Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II then top trim gets Quadra-Drive II. You explained them spot on, just the nomenclature was off. Also, checking out Jeep's website, no trim can be equipped with Quadra-Drive II. I think it was only available with the off-road package/trail rated package, which is no longer available. Bummer...Great review, BTW!

    Fantastic review. Summed it up perfectly. I ordered one of these but eventually ended up canceling. That v6 was just not enough and that v8 and its thirst wasn't super exciting either. I normally never write to any comment but sir my wife and I feel that I must just warn you that the aviator/explorer has the lowest consumer reports of 2021 because of the countless problems the vehicle has with various systems ie power train and electrical. In short we have had 2 Aviator Blacklabels the second also being Grand Touring. The first got labeled a lemon because of an unfixable backup camera and the latter because of something between the hybrid and the engine, still unfixable together the cars were in the shop for a total of 11 months so we are now shopping for a grand Cherokee L

    I recently sold my '19 Toyota Highlander SE because I didn't like the way it drove, it was jerky and I felt like it just didn't have enough power. After watching your video, you described almost exactly how I felt about the highlander with the Grand Cherokee and its engine not having enough power. Is there an SUV that you recommend that is a V6 but still has enough power for the car? I loved my highlander but couldn't stand to drive it anymore due to the crappy engine! I'm really struggling to find what I'm looking for.

    • @OutMotorsports
      @OutMotorsports  Před 2 lety +2

      The big thing with a lot of these V6 engines is that they have to be revved high to make their power, which can be annoying and also feels odd if you're not used to thrashing on an engine. Your Highlander didn't make all 295 of its horsepower unless you were revving it to 6,600 RPM. Below that, it was making... less. What you really want - if you want something "effortless" - is torque. Everyone buys horsepower but you drive torque. And you get low-down torque with a turbocharger, a hybrid, or a V8. You could try the Grand Cherokee V8 or 4xe (plug in hybrid). See about a Highlander Hybrid, maybe?

      Seems to be, yep. There have been reports of questionable reliability of the 3.0 EcoDiesel long-term, and diesel as a whole in the United States isn't being pushed much outside of bigger trucks and commercial use. Electrification is where automakers are going, and given the shorter two-row '22 Grand Cherokee can be had as a PHEV 4xe, we suspect Stellantis will add electrification of some kind as a third drivetrain option for the Grand Cherokee L in the future.
