What are your thoughts on this song and his message🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️ Let’s talk 🤔
It's not bad but it's still corny imo
Plus he sounds like a CZcams rapper with his flow.
My personal opinion is that his song plays on biased thoughts like always. It's good but in terms of culture it goes against my beliefs. I believe that culture is accessible for all race as long as you don't take it for granted.
React to sad boy prolific blind
I love it hes speaking the truth and im white love your channle keep it upman
I'm not racist, I hate everyone equally.
-The Most Racist People You’ll Know, 2019
So you're quirky racist
Lmao I laughed so hard.
I remember when it was cute and quirky to say this in middle school
just called being a hateful person, but your life is your own.
There is nothing wrong with being proud of your culture. As long as you respect your fellow human. Respect and civility is what is really missing from people today.
Unless your white and proud right ?
Rob Rine lol true af
There only one race the human race replie if u agree
@@kj-ng9fo That's a misguided argument white people can be proud if they want but to completely deafen and blind yourself to the hundreds of years "White Proud" was shouted as they brutally beat and mutilated black people IS THE REASON people hate it. Don't be mad at us for that being engraved be mad at the KKK that to this day uses it the old way. Be mad at them they ruined it.
@@jamie0077 i agree
I'm a 38 year old white man. Came across this song only a few weeks ago. I have been checking out dozens of peoples reactions to it in the past few weeks because this video really made me put myself in another mans shoes and think. Honestly I think everyone should hear this song regardless of race, gender, age. What more can you ask from a song then to spark conversation and change.
I wonder if LayedBak ever realized that Tom made this and "WhiteBoy" to be the perspectives of each side. Tom explained on Twitter that he doesn't agree with everything in his song but he wanted to get out what both sides believe in. This comparison is needed for this present time period.
Yes!
EXACTLY DUDE THANK YOU
These two songs (this and white boy) go over the heads of 90% of the people that listen to them, including people that like them.
Exactly. He hopes that if you can see eachothers perspective. Understanding that will help us to be more united!
I was thinking the same thing without the prior knowledge of his twitter post. Tom has mentioned songs being satire in the past and feel like he leans into it a lot. Honestly though nothing against Tom or his fans but I find him pretty cringe worthy. He has some great flow when he does full verse songs but I havent heard a chorus I enjoy. No hate just not my thing.
I think he's speaking to how he would feel if he was black. maybe wrong, maybe right... that's just how he would feel about it. Respect the man for making us think.
and thats really it. He's not taking a personal position on any of these things only acknowledging that he would feel this way if he was black. I think that it's a perfectly valid message and i think it's gonna find a good home in his racially observant songs.
What makes you think that besides the fact that he says "if I was black" over and over? You must be a real genius
Ur right
@@mjay776 and u must be a pretty non observative person
@@mjay776 - You clearly don't understand what the guy you replied to is really saying..
I'm white, raised in the ghetto. My family survived off of government assistance and food shelves. My mom, a single mom raising 2 kids. I loved but hated the ghetto. I felt like I was home, but always hated the violence. My friends were some of the best ones I've had of any race (because I don't look at race I look at people for who they are). Being raised in the hood probably helped me to see the points Tom is making. My family moved to a small town in Minnesota. I went to a small school. The racism was TERRIBLE (95% of the school was white students). I had never felt so uncomfortable in my life. I'm white so I was never racially profiled or bullied at school but just hearing what they would say made me furious. However, I was profiled as a "hoodlum" and would get followed by police in my small town, and was constantly picked on for being poor and coming from nothing. I personally love where I came from. I think it helps me to appreciate things more. I also feel how Tom feels. I wonder what would have happened if I was an black. How differently would things have gone in my personal experiences. Regardless, I love this song.
Sad but interesting story
Same
Tom made "whiteboy" and "If I was black" as two sides from a conversation. He also put on his twitter that he doesn't believe in everything that he rapped about on either one of these songs. He pulled a Joyner Lucas. But with different songs.
Exactly. I think people who see this as him telling truth or telling his perspective are missing what the song says. This is him demonstrating that he knows where his perspective comes from and that he knows why others have a different perspective. Until you can articulate the perspective of the person you're talking too this well you're not ready to have a real conversation with them. You'll just be yelling at each other. He understands that people who dislike the place he's taking in the industry have their reasons for that.
I love that Tom sees the world from all sides.
Me to
@Mr. Webb He is presenting the opposing attitudes and feelings of people that don't always agree
I grew up in the hood. But, I can only speak to my experience. When it comes to racism, I've spoken to way more blacks that openly hate whites way more than the other way around. As far as I'm concerned, we are all family. 98% of our DNA is the same. But as a white man, I can't publicly show pride in who I am. I'm part of the only demographic that would be called racist for doing so. I've been the target of hate when did nothing but show respect, before it was earned. I wish EVERYONE would let go of their hate. I love you bro. And everyone willing to respectfully have the conversation.
Ron Binkowski same here. There are racist on both sides. But also i believe personally that there are potential benefits do being any race in america. But i do see how white people are deemed racist if they try and speak on either their own race or others. Which technically would make the other person a racist if the persons thoughts or ideas were genuine.
We all need to come together and fight the true evil. The evil that's trying to hold people back.
Literally couldn’t have said it better myself. I don’t judge a person until they give me a reason too and I wish people wouldn’t judge me before I gave them a reason.
110% man you and I have the same story keepin it 💯 with everyone. Everyones gotta show love at all times. No matter what race, religion, gender or sexual status. We are all equal, we are all living in the same moment. You have the option to hate people but why do that when all it does is gets people upset, mad, and in some cases even killed. People need to grow up and show respect so we can all grow united.
It’s simply a hatred problem
I agree with your commentary, but remember "Whiteboy".... that song was supposed to get the same reaction... two sides to one story
This is more parallel to straight white Male but most of his music has other songs of his that go hand in hand with it
jhooperify different messages, it’s not contradicting if you think about it as in, white boy was against people judging him by his skin colour and being a culture vulture... this is about putting himself in someone else’s shoes and how that feels... so it’s not personal like whiteboy ? If that makes sense ?
@jhooperify
Many things can be equally true.
@jhooperify i agree with you
My point dude
How you feel listening to his bars is how white people generally feel about white boy.
Its a perspective. "Don't tell me what I see with my white eyes."
I think this song is fantastic and shows his ability to manifest the anger and frustration from both sides of the conversation.
Most of it is about prejudice and considering how he looks, he hasn't had the "benefit of the doubt"
👏🏼
You didnt get enough likes
Tell you right now I avoided him because of how he looked. Rap isnt my wheelhouse as it is, so that didnt help. But I will admit it, and once I finally heard a single song I shut right the fuck up. Suddenly the tats and look made a lot of sense. I wasnt looking at the stereotype, I was looking at Tom McDonald. Nothing more nothing less
@@elidames6889 He is himself and thats the reason I like him so much.
Amazing comment, could not have said it better.
I think Tom presented how he feels personally in "WhiteBoy" and this is probably his vision of what a black dude must feel like on the flip side of the coin.
White boy and if I was blacks are just to show two sides of the coin. He said on Twitter he doesn't 100% agree with either
I like the song “Straight White Male.” I believe that song is talking about what the far left is trying to instill in everyone’s mind.
@@lovestehloz yup
I was super confused on my first take, but now it's clear. I dig it🔥
I had to listen to it a few times as well to get where he was going with this
Joshwa it was 🔥
This is so important. People who are getting offended are missing the whole point of the song, man. Thanks for your reaction and saying what you did!
No one gets offended.. I have seen people who just don't like it.
But I never see anyone who is offended. There's people who think it's garbage (I honestly think most his music is so corny that I don't like it)... That doesn't mean anyone is offended. I hear Tom say it's offensive and Tom's fans say that people are offended. Never anyone else.
I don't see what he says that hasn't been said 1000 times before.
Just because you haven't seen it yet, doesn't mean it aint happening. I mean, you don't have to look far, easily just check the comments of the video itself. I first heard the song from this completely ignorant Reddit thread: www.reddit.com/r/cringe/comments/cidf6h/nobody_told_him_this_was_a_bad_idea/
It really seems like all white people are offended by this song, and using the fact that he's white making this song as an excuse to hate on it, completely missing the point and message. But they're mad. They're offended because they feel betrayed and don't believe in all the points he made. Meanwhile, the black community clearly supports this song and feels everything he says in it, because it is fact.
He clearly had black writers help him with this shit.
What he says has been said before, but not in a song that reaches millions, name three other songs which got all these messages from a popular artist. I'll wait. Underground rap is underground for a reason, white people don't want these messages out. Especially not worded so well that it got everyone thinking.
Small segments of these issues are addressed all the time, however, rarely all together. Why is that?
Probably because black people talking about black issues doesn't have as big of an impact. Which in itself is ironic that this guy presented the truths clearly and better than most rappers this era.
Just because it's been said before, doesn't mean it lessens the impact. This is how we feel right now, and he said it clearly and threw his own race under the bus for it. We feel that and ya'll offended.
Lies. People offended all over his comments.
It's just confusing from his whiteboy song and straight white male for example when he saying white people are not racist collectively and then on this record he puts white people as racist as a whole so hes contradicting himself, just feels like hes trying to gain clout using this problem not helping
@@ab-in5uj they're two different songs. This song is about if he was black. Why would he care about white people's feelings if he was black?
It's not contradictory to understand two points of view. He's open minded and hasn't subscribed to one bullshit mindset.
"Just because I'm for me doesn't mean I'm against you"❤️
I really feel that being born and raised in Canada then living all over Europe before coming to LA he is able to see our problems from a different perspective. He's able to see things objectively and see all sides. One of the many things I have mad respect for.
I agree with everything you said man, it IS time to have that conversation. Tom makes you pay attention to what he says, THAT is powerful and he's realized that he can make a huge difference. He's trying to do his part
As a white man whose lived in the hood, this song deserves a Grammy.
I'm glad I found it through your channel 🙏
🤦🏾♂️🙍🏾♂️
absolutely not.
Personal opinion...you don't have to agree.
nigga shut yo soft ass up corny ass white boy
Zyhru racism works both ways and wont end until everyone stops attacking people verbally or any other way based on color
BTW, I love your reaction to this. Honest, real, respectful. Love that Tom did this , makes everyone think, that isn't a bad thing, but better than that, makes us talk outloud about things we all know damn well exist. United we stand.
Wow. Respect to Tom for speaking out, and LayedBak for opening the discussion
I think this song and Straight White Male are two sides of the same coin.
Michael Tabor I think it compares better to whiteboy.
Because it was suppose to
They are 3 different perspectives of the same issue. Whiteboy, straight white male and now this
@@alanormanovich7538 And the black man gets outnumbered again...
He took what joyner did but made two videos.
Honestly I think he’s right with his message and honestly we all need to treat eachother better
Whats his message exactly, im not exactly clear on it
Mostly the white needa treat the other races better
@@ZapPack He's basically trying to put himself in the shoes of a black person. If he were black, everything that he states in his song is how he would feel about society and specifically white people.
@@tygerr4120 yes but not all white people are the same

@@Dranex11 wtf, yes you can. Hating any race is the literal definition of racism. So if you hate white people you're racist.
It really hit me when you touched on the part of “ being pro my people doesn’t mean I am against yours “
You really put it perfectly. You can want to see your culture succeed without wanting to see other people fail.
Nothing wrong at all with just wanting you and your culture or your people to feel seen.
I'm just tired of being held accountable for actions I had no control over. My family is Irish and Norwegian yet I'm still put in that category of "slave owner".
I get it but this song is not ment for you and your struggles. I acknowledge your struggles and I respect them but this song is about the black community and the struggles some people have been through. Nothing about this song disrespects your culture's struggles and I stand behind you just as much as I stand by every single human being that has to face injustice. But this song is acknowledging the injustice that has happened in the black community. So dont be offended by this song, this particular comment section is not the right place to use your cultures injustices to feel offended. Let's stand behind the community that this song is about. Much love.
@@personalninja86 fair enough and I acknowledge that! Respect and very well put.
And when it comes time to stand behind the irish and Norwegian in their fight against a current Injustice, just look to your right and you will see me there fighting for you.
Yet your ancestors were slaves too. Do people not realise irish were also treated like dirt. It was never because the color of their skin just free labor.
Yea back in America they’d have signs on bars saying “No blacks, no dogs, No irish”
This to me was the best reaction to this song, made me understand some points that I wasn't getting.
Keep it up man!
I'm a white welder living in Bible belt Texas. With that said, Tom's balls are massive and he's spitting truth HARD in this. So much respect. Fr

Growing up in Newport News, VA you see cops like this all the time. I was so happy when Tom released this because it opened a lot of people's minds up. I have friends both hispanic and white that's views on blacks were not admirable at all. They didn't have the exposure to the real life like I did. Tom helped open their eyes. I think what he's saying with his song is he gets it. He understands why some African Americans may feel the way they feel. He's saying just because he puts out a song saying "don't hate me because I'm white" doesn't mean he doesn't understand the flip side of the coin.
How do we fix it? I want better for us all.
Tom is rapping from perspectives. He’s honestly on both sides.
LB, You broke this down really well. You're a great speaker, very articulate and open minded.
Thank you for the honest review. Love your channel man. I think, in my opinion, in a nutshell he was saying that he respects every point of view in the black community when it comes to racism. He was like saying if this is how you feel then I understand why you would feel like that and I support and respect what you have gone through and how you feel. You have the right to feel like that because of all the crap happening in the world. Tom was acknowledging the struggles and trials that people go through. There has been so much tragedy and it's wrong. Stand by your view and dont be afraid to speak your mind. I respect the hell out of tom for fighting to get this song out. And to the people that are offended by this song...... it's a hot button topic and it can be instantly offputting, respectfully so, but give the song another listen and try to understand what's actually being said. Not every part of this song is true for everyone in the black community, but to the person that connects with an issue he brought to light just know that there is a lot of people outside the black community that acknowledge your struggle and we stand behind you. Much love to everyone! Thanks again for the review!
That's some real music. I'm half Native American half Mexican American and I support his movement!
I’m a 40 y/o WM, Never listen to hip-hop always been into heavy-metal never been racist and try to see the other side’s point of view. Great reaction. Based on your reaction, I think a revisit to White Boy would be very interesting from you.
Long story but figured you guys might want to know. You don't even hear about all the shit that happens. I work in courts and I can't name names or facilities but I just worked on a case where Sheriff deputies at a jail were trying to escort a black man to a new cell. He tried to break out of the transporting guards grasp and run away from him (he had schizophrenia and probably thought people were trying to kill him. The jail never read his medical history and didn't even know about it). The guard and 3 others tackled him to the ground, and handcuffed his legs and arms behind his back and put them together. (Think hog tying, which is illegal in most states) They started to tase him and stun drive him, and drop knees onto his back. They got him up, tied him to a restraint chair, and put a spit hood over his face. Proceeded to punch and elbow him until he stopped breathing. He died later that day in the hospital. The detainee never hit or spit on any of the guards.
None of them will ever be named or charged with anything either. If anything comes of it, it will be the jail paying millions to the family. That money comes from us as tax payers. We basically are paying for men to get away with murder.
