  • If you've recently watched Tutorial 04 you'll have joined me for a glazing session which included applying mystery chips on both a vertical and horizontal surface, using the same base glaze and chips but each resulting in a totally different outcome!
Also a commission I've been working on and have to admit the anxiety was heightened just hoping they turned out as I'd hoped.
Never fail to enjoy a kiln opening but so much more pressure when there is a commission inside!
Hope you enjoy and looking forwards to having more time in the studio to experiment more and finally get around to uploading more footage.
Thanks for the support as always, its much appreciated,
    See you soon!
    Jeanette

I do love your glaze chips application and the results.Your influence is going far and wide 😂 I watched the two videos in the wrong order of course and I could see that naughty lump just sitting there after the application of Frosted Lemon. If you want the plates/ bowls to match will you have to refire both again? Lovely tea bowls ❤

Lol, if only I'd seen that lump before firing! Lol I think you're right best to dremel down and refire them both. Appreciate the lovely comment. Thankyou ;)

Wow. I so love watching your reactions when opening the kiln. Not sure when I watched the video that you stated that you've been doing pottery for 18 months.
How long have you been doing it now.
I think your pieces are amazing.
I have a inexpensive electric wheel which I need to start teaching myself. I need to watch CZcams tutorials to learn. I'm only hand building and learning glazing techniques. Which is a whole other area for success.
    You glaze combinations are beautiful.
I've been setting up a work area in my study and have a small kiln under the laundry porch. Which I'm so apprehensive about using. But I need to put away my fears kiln wash my shelves snd do a quick break in fire.
    Take care

Oh sounds like you've got some fun times ahead! I'm totally addicted now and just love experimenting and learning Constantly.
I started June 21, so currently it will be three years next month. Only had 6 lessons on the wheel and the rest just been from CZcams and trying it out myself. No community studios close by so was only option. Online community is amazing and so helpful. Anything I may be able to help with please reach out. Hope you have amazing fun with it and thanks do much for your support :)

@@FarForestCeramics your welcome. We'll I think you've been doing things exceptionally well. I'd be too embarrassed to sit in front of camera filming myself. So you're a success in that area. Your work space is amazing, I love how organized you are. I definitely relate to that area, everything labeled and in its spot. Then one finds what they need. I also need a carpenter/handy person to help me build things.
But......I need to manage with what I have.
      Keep them fingers dirty

@@evelynzinnauer348 at first I felt very odd talking to my mobile phone when videoing, but eventually got more used to it. I forget I'm filming sometimes! I'm so lucky my son and hubby do some DIY stuff for me, but I try to do myself wherever possible bit I'm not entirely safe with all the tools lol. Happier when my hands are in mud ;)

My gosh these are all so beautiful!! I absolutely LOVE THE GLAZE CHIP BOWLS!! The green tea, Aurora and muddy waters is awesome as well can’t wait to try that!! The piece sticking out on the last bowl is a real lay off thing because I had the same thing happen to two pieces in my last kiln load!! I don’t know what the heck they could be. I’ll message you and send pics. I am going to sand the one down with a dremel that is on the inside of a mug and refire. That one mug is unfortunately a set so I’ll refire all of them so they turn out relatively similar. I can’t for the life of me figure out what they are. If you find out please let me know. Great kiln load!!

Thanks Michele. I do love using mystery Chips! Can't work out which I prefer lol.
I wonder what that piece sticking out is. I can only think it's a piece of clay that was in my glaze chips? It feel like a ceramic piece.
It's useless as it is so nothing to lose the dremel down and add more glaze and chips and refire. Dilemma is do I refire both so they are still similar or just the one hmmmmm ... I'm thinking refire them both with added chips in. Got a few days to think about it lol.
Thanks as always for the feedback and support 😀

@@FarForestCeramics That is sooo odd isn’t it? They way my set up is and I know your set up is waaaaay more organized than mine I can not see how on earth a piece of clay could have gotten into my chips!! It’s just the weirdest thing! I would definitely either use a dremel or sand the piece down and fire both pieces! I’ve refired so many things through the years and one that is fired twice always looks just different enough to not look like a set. I was also going to say that I’ve never liked the smoke glaze but I saw how it pooled and left a bit of a different color and like that so I’ll try it! I also love using the washes! They can give a piece that extra little oomph!! I like using them in texture and wiping them back. The copper leaves a green metallic color which is awesome.

Please tell me if your cookies were made from a higher fire clay than all the pieces you fired. I am new to firing and I’m trying to learn. Thank you.

Hi there, all my cookies are made with the same clay I fire my pieces at. I used them multiple times and they are still going strong. I've found it really useful to have multiple shapes and sizes and always make a few more from scraps of clay after a hand building session. I've always got bits of slab rolled clay scraps I can cut shapes from. Hope that helps.
