- Thanks so much to Sony for sending me the DualSense Edge free to review! This is the first official 1st party Pro Controller option from Sony ever, built for the PS5! There's a lot of cool unique features it has to offer, though I can't help but feel there's a couple things it could have done even better...

I do like the modular design of the stick modules. I wish more things let you swap in and out parts when needed
Like the Switch's Joycons? That would be dope
They could pretty much eliminate stick drift but they refuse to use the electromagnetic sticks which have like 100x the durability
Btw the Edge controller does not come with the same battery with the regular dual sense,it’s a 1050mah instead of the original 1560mah in the dualsense.
I’m not a tech wiz so I’m gonna go with less=bad
Great video. I love my edge controller. It’s my first pro controller but love how it’s a mix of the regular dual sense (which is the best ever standard controller ) with the pro features. 🎮🎧👍🏼
I hope i enjoy mine as much as you. I just cant get my head round the 210£ price mark.
Looks great, thanks for the video
It is nice of you to put the cool background of the 'Sea of Stars' on the desktops. 😄
Gotta love the sea of stars wallpaper on your laptop!!! Cannot wait for that game.
Great review, Kevin! 👏 Appreciate your take on the Dualsense Edge
great review, thanks
Love the sea of stars in the background lol. My most hyped game of 2023
Great review dude
Let's hope they release more colors.
Sus
Grey PS1 throwback would be sweet
At Lease (Mayte) black!
fr, if they dropped their midnight black color, i’d buy asap
D-brand be like : fine... i gotta do it myself
Very cool but 200$ dollars? That’s way too much for the average gamer to buy
But in all seriousness it’s not marketed towards the average gamer. A regular controller will do just fine for the average gamer. It’s only worth the $200 if you’re going thru a controller a year or you like fine tuning your controls
I like what I see other than the glossy front. Come out with a few more to swap with and some controller colors and we will be set.
Good review
Nice! Looking forward to the comparison video! Might hold out in hopes of a black version. But overall will save up because that cost is steep
I like the adjustable triggers
I just bought mine today, and really enjoy using it, especially playing COD MW2.
Honestly this looks so righteous, despite the shorter battery life. All the bells and whistles to game with a pro controller of sorts is awesome. I honestly wish Switch had a controller like this for tournament based gaming. (They DO, but it lacks the rumble.)
I was holding back for this controller but last night got it for myself the other day. People had been saying about the battery but didn't find mine any issue at all I mean on the regular dualsense I am getting 8 hours of playtime before needing to charge. As for the edge I got the same amount of time before I charge the controller, the reason why I was holding myself in getting this controller before is I was hoping that sony will release different color for as they did with the regular dualsense. With that said I was happy with this controller and thinking I might mod it once the warranty has passed.
I like it so far. I just wish the fn button could be mapped to face buttons or even to turn 9n gyro aim if pressed on the right side fn button. They also should have added an alternative d-pad option. But software wise there is so much they could do with this controller even In the future.
Even if you don’t like the glossy black piece around the sticks, Amazon sells tons of custom third party colors of it so you can swap it out
Magnets is the future when it comes to controller sticks or a lot of things in general also battery is cool for me after 4 hours you should be getting a break anyway will probably buy at some point
Finally got around to picking one up, going to sell my white DualSense controller to help pay for it. Honestly quite impressed with the quality of it and love the extra features. Not necessary by far, especially given its price, but if you don’t mind the high price it is a great controller.
Battery life isn't too good over time
@@deraw94 Yeah, that’s my one complaint
Oh it’s gooood! 😊
Love to see a review on BFG Victius pro controller, it has some interesting options and would love to see your opinion on it.
If I could make a request, could you please review the Victrix BFG Pro Controller for the PS5 by PDP? I'm curious about it and thinking of buying one.
I really like mine, but I do think Sony should have made some default DualSense Edge profiles for at least their first party games. Would make the onboarding slightly easier. Also I hope that the Sony will make different stick modules, like a Electromagnetic one fx.
This modularity and reparability (though a small part of the controller) is great to finally see from the actually maker of the console, Im glad many keyboards allow such flexibility to replace a singular problematic switch and I hope xbox and nintendo (and sony down the raod) get the message that controllers have a long way to go and getting stagnant will hurt sales. Now if only they could fit a bigger battery there.
Xbox has been doing it for years now tho with the Elite Controller, arguably since the 360 days even
@@materioart no, you can't replace any parts of the elite controller. I've gone through 3 of them because the bumpers break in a couple months every time.
Wow when was this video recorded, a quick search around would have shown that the battery usage time is not low because of the controller extra features but because it is only 2/3 the size of the dual sense battery. Wow
If they release it in red, I’ll buy it
just the ability to swap out whole stick modules is a huge selling point for me. I've had so many ps4 controllers get bad stick drift on me
Just two back buttons and only domed high sticks is the dumbest design choice I've ever seen on a pro controller.
@@zZiL341yRj736it’s the same design nearly every custom controller has right now
Don't know whether to wait out for the 2nd generation Dualsense Edge. I do have a feeling if you keep changing analogue stick caps there is the possibility of them wearing out overtime I wish they would have opted for magnets.
The rest of the internal components are of great quality and the software is nice and simple.
I have both Xbox elite controllers 1&2. I have multiple PS4 scufs. I have a pro switch controller. I have the PS5 scuf controller and I never use 4 paddles. I’m perfectly fine with 2. 😊
Nice video Kevin
The software on this controller makes it better than everything I’ve tried before
Would consider this if Gulikit has a hall sensor module for the Dualsense Edge so you never have to change analog sticks again.
I have one of these and really like it a lot. My only wish would be a second set of back buttons so I could map all the face buttons. A bit of a misplay by Sony if you ask me.
finally a good review with actual details. Would love to see some in-game testing, especially FPS shooter, in the future. This is what we all need to know about.
I think the pdp victrix bfg is a cheaper option minus the dual sense and haptic triggers
the battery size is actually smaller than the og
I wish they would release an all white controller.
I'm cautiously optimistic we see a revision with more back buttons. Having 4 on Xbox has spoiled me. That being said, having paddles as an option is amazing, considering how many back buttons are just indented in the controller
Yea, I was wondering about this too. Might be okay if you’ve never had a pro controller but it seems like a negative compared to Xbox.
I would much rather have had 4 than the function buttons at the bottom. As it stands, I'd still end up using the normal controller in claw so my thumb never comes off the stick.
If they made touchpad modules this controller would be king
Does your DSE makes a louder noise on R2 than the regular DS? I don’t know if mine is defective or if that’s normal
So far my only beefs since using it: would’ve liked 4 back buttons like my Scuf, and the battery life kinda sucks.
now, I do hope they add in some features for the profiling menu- being able to make your own profiles and the option to make the sticks only use 4 or 8 directions to smooth out poorly optimized controller aiming from some games (looking at you Hired Gun and B4B… a stick is NOT a mouse indie devs 🙄) or for side scrollers/ fighting games, etc…
Macros would also be a nice addition.
same 4 back buttons was also what I would like to see. I have a third party dual sense controller with 4 paddles and am definitely spoiled after I pretty much need them now
Macros would never be added. Macros are considered cheating/illegal in most cases.
normal playback speed is starting to feel like 1.5 kev lol
Wish they had a rubber grip and controller customization option with the Xbox store
Actually the reason it has a lower battery device is not because of the extras the controller can do but because the Edge's battery has a capacity of 1050mAh and the regular duelsense has a 1560mAh battery :/ they didnt even "need" to do that.
My ONLY complaint is that the volume feature does NOT work with the pulse 3D headset made for the ps5! This infuriated the hell out of me because I spent over an hour trying to figure out why.
We need the next elite controller to be something like what sony did with the PS5 controller with the removable sticks so we don't have to buy a whole new controller with just a stick problem
Having 4 back buttons is an absolute must for me, I like to map all the face buttons to them so I never have to remove my thumbs from the joysticks, like many of you the elite controller spoiled me in expecting a controller that has all that functionality, premium feel, and a solid battery life. Playstation is heading in the right direction with this one but I won't be going in on this until they get those extra two buttons, battery life improvement wouldn't be as bad of a trade off for me if I can have all the back buttons lol
Don't hold your breath. My guess is it will never happen. Let's be honest though. Most of us can get by with 2 or even prefer 2 over 4. And those two extra buttons won't make us any better at our respective games. I play Apex and barely ever have to remove my thumbs and it's never the reason I get smoked
@@miked5443 it’s just the way I like to play, nothing about being better just how I like it, but to pay that much and still not be able to do that isn’t a selling point for me is all, granted I am spoiled as I had the Elite controller for my Xbox so I know what it’s like to have 4 paddles on back
It Bothers me that people don't realize you don't have to have the controller connected to your console to charge it when you play you can connect it to the outlet that's right next to you I hear a lot of people complain about the cable being connected to the console to charge I haven't had to connect my controller to the console since the PlayStation 3
Good call honestly, I personally never had issues with battery life since PS3 but still I never thought of that.
I think it's crazy that having back buttons hasn't become a standard for game controllers. If they were standard then game devs could figure them into the design and gameplay
I’ve read that the battery is roughly 33% smaller than the standard controller. I wonder if the batteries are the same and swappable. 🤔
Can you please tell me which controller out there offers "clutch adjustment aiming" ?
I want this DS Edge...But not at $200, will wait for a price drop.
Besides my Ps5 is on 4.03 waiting for a full jailbreak + hypervisor exploit so I cannot update to the latest firmware that adds Edge support.
I just want to know if the D-pad is segmented or one solid button.
Nice Red XIII button Kevin!!
It would be nice if my pc recognized it on all launchers and games without a middleman third party app…
Best Controller Ever Made ! 100% Buying
Says best controller ever made then proceeds to admit you don't own one..🙈
Fanboy alert 🚨🚨🚨
@@Axispaw1 It's the best controller because of its features. That's just being objective. Either way I'm happy with what I saw
Why no review on the Battler GC by Retro Fighters?
My only problem is really with the glossy bottom; glossy just doesn't look premium imo.
It doesn’t get smudgy
So he recorded this last Monday or something because the past few days it has been going around that the battery is indeed smaller than a standard DS, not simply just more features = less battery life
@icemancam: I use mine plugged it and it’s flawless.
@L_O_W_K_E_Y-G I literally already have the controller lol?? I will be posting a comparison video between this controller and the scuf reflex FPS controller this weekend. Spoiler alert scuf beats out this controller in all aspects aside from the inevitable stick drift that will happen with the scuf
I'm not too comfortable with the cable lock, I would much rather have a cable that pulls out of the controller if someone trips on it than one that pulls the console off its stand.
then don’t put the lock on? lol?
Paddles scratched the back of my controller which I am cheesed about
I'm waiting for when they have different colors
Don't swap sticks a lot. If you let someone else use it tell them nah if they ask to swap them. Although I'd put any of my dual senses through a wood chipper before I ever handed my edge away. As for battery life, plug it in and keep playing.
Please review the victrix pro bfg!!!
The base DualSense has a 1560mAh battery, while the DualSense Edge has a 1050mAh battery, so like a third smaller.
I hope console games start to allow pro controller button integration... As the buttons being their own button instead of duplicates... For instance in overwatch I could use those back buttons for extra communication voice lines.. but to do this overwatch would need to be able to recognize the button as back button 1 or 2... I originally thought this was the purpose of pro controllers, and also the reason I purchased the PS4 back button accessory...
Pro controllers are essentially to jump and aim at the same time
Ok really need your help on this one, edge or razer v2 pro?? In your opinion which is better ?
Yes.
I play division 2 and just returned this controller as I found the back paddles useless for my gameplay style!
I'll stick to the elite. Nothing on this makes the controller functionally better. Battery Life is the deal breaker.
One thing i havent seen anybody talk about is if the adaptive triggers stay on when you increase the tension does anybdy know ?
I would buy it for $100 but $200 it's absolutely ludicrous
I think this would be priced at 75😂
This product is clearly out of your budget, move on…
@@demitri7303 not really, sony is known for making their stuff way overpriced. The ps5 is made out of incredibly cheap hardware
The battery is smaller, it has been confirmed. 1050 mAH.
The battery is physically smaller because of all the extra stuff. It’s about 1/3 smaller
I'm a huge fan of wired pro controllers. The price may turn a lot of people off, but it's more of a long-term investment. Replacing the analogs so seamlessly goes a long way. I can't wait to use it with my Nintendo Switch.
What's the little box you put the USB cable into before pugging it into the controller?
Included lock that prevents detachment of the cable, essentially making it a wired controller if you want to
There's one gripe I've had with Sony for a long time. We've had custom button assignments on our controllers for years, but they've only ever given us one option per the entire system. You can't have numerous different custom button assignments. Now I understand that's because they were banking on making a system like this, so they could make more money off of people by getting this function exclusively through buying their pro controller
Why does this controller not light up like the regular duelsense? Mine has no light bar when playing a game.
We need an elite series 3 instead with the Xbox series controller design
Wish it was optimized for PC as well cuz it feels like a waste of money sitting on my desk.
Battery life is debunked. It last around 7 hours
Im gonna need that cable lock one time I yanked my ps4 controller while you motion controls and the usb cable flew out and the head of the usb cable broke off
Why didn't they just use Hall effect joy sticks?
Tbh battery ain’t really a problem coz my ps is right next to me so it’s not that bad
how do i use it on pc? where is the pc software?
What happened was just having about the Next-gen PlayStation Portable(PSP), but otherwise, I'm Guessing, How if my IGN 1 got removed by Roku?
Can you turbo the buttons?
Does it have hall effects sticks at that insane price?
I'm not Kevin Kenson, but I do think that they have a higher end analog stick (the orange one) the common ones are blue. They're not hall effect for the reason that Sony can still make money off the swappable modules. I'm sure both PDP and Sony with add halleffect joysticks in the future; or third party companies will make em for the controller
u still got that beanie on
❤❤❤❤
Does it connect to PC? via cable
This is perfect aside from that damn glossy faceplate 😭
There's really no excuse for Sony to downgrade the battery life of this compared to the regular dualsense... Like why? It's more expensive, why would they put a smaller battery?
If the drop it to 120 I'll buy
I think the controller is more comfortable than the normal dual sense. The texturing of the PS logos is also on the hand grip and triggers. Just there enough to provide grip without being uncomfortable
Hello
The bettery actually smaller
