The Festival comes to a spectacular finish with Images: 20 Years, a celebration of Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía’s two-decade history as an internationally beloved flamenco ambassador. Led by artistic director Rafaela Carrasco, the company will honor its legacy by revisiting five of the most celebrated works in its repertoire, choreographed by Mario Maya, Maria Pagés, Jose Antonio, Cristina Hoyos, and Ruben Olmo. This “visceral greatest hits set” will remind you how Carrasco has “pushed the boundaries of flamenco without ever losing its spirit or vitality” (The Daily Telegraph, UK).

I never tire of seeing flamenco. Their hands twirl like birds taking up flight. And the shawl reminds me of bright flames in a campfire. And that is just the beginning. Spectacular sight.

Because it's wonderful. You don't have to be Spanish to love flamenco. I'm for example, Jewish and I love it. I think Japanese could love it too. Flamenco is not just a dance. It's a very sophisticated and ancient art. Original flamenco is Gypsy. That's how it arrived to Spain many centuries ago. As you must know, they are tribes that migrated from India and spread one of ancient Hindu dances.
@@Raquel-xf5rv Dear Raquel, I'm Jewish and our dance has nothing to do with flamenco. I lived among Turks as a child and their dance has nothing to do with flamenco as well. I've been living as well among Arabs for many years because I'm Israeli and their dance also has nothing to do with flamenco. I dance Jewish, Turkish, Caucasian, Arabic dances and could tell you for sure that flamenco is not originated in any of them. It might have a flavour of some cultures but originally it's Hindi. Even non gypsy flamenco today has obvious moves from Hindi dances as well as their dresses and flower in their hair. Greetings🙏

You don't have to be Spanish to love flamenco. I myself am an Irish American and I really want to try learning flamenco. However I love dances that are from other cultures a lot more than the dances in America and especially if It's something beautiful like this.
@@yogalover2753 You also have your native dances which are very beautiful. I love Irish dances a lot. For example we don't have any native dances. Just a few which we basically dance on weddings.

Had a friend that owned a UK freehold ( land and house) house. She gave a long lease over 80 or so years to people in downstairs apartment. They kept complaining about the noise of her walking about even barefoot as bare floorboards, so she put down heavy carpets still complained. As she was out during the day Gave permission for a local charitable Spanish flamenco dance group( she was friend of owner) to use main large living room for lessons free after rolling back carpet 9am- 6pm every day bar weekends.
They sold up very soon…..

@@robertparrinello1687 She was a good friend of mine and also had other property with family next door that caused problems in another area.Let the house for summer free to Hells angels in UK, Some of which she new for many years since young (Now in 60s) they gave no trouble but plenty noise from bikes and parties.The family also sold up and left!
This was about 40 years ago! Why would you say not true? maybe not sound it but most of these things sound not true as so fantastic. She was famous person living in small village now.Married to millonaire at one time,now dead. I saw all this stuff personaly,knew her since was at school.

The beauty in this kind of performance is the CULTURE, like i’m African but the only time i felt like that about a dance was with ancestral african dances, arabic, and some asian dances..

This dance was born in Andalucia, the south of Spain, which historically, since about 3000 thousand years ago, has been populated continuously by different cultures. It's known for being a very welcoming place for everyone. But, of course, this region has also suffered a lot by religious and political impositions. All that mixture is the breeding ground. Gypsies did not "bring" it, they came here as many other cultures did. It most probably emerged as an artistic expression of grief by all people prosecuted by catholics @@victus7597

Im not saying you can’t do flamenco if ur not from Andalusia, but a Catalonian singing “flamenco” is as rare as an Andalusian singing country... I think her being the iconic flamenco singer outside Spain is an insult to us andalusians, first because she’s not singing flamenco and second because she’s not even andalusian, just some rich girl copying gypsy dances and andalusian accent

Very interesting you should mention river dancing. Fact check me if I'm wrong, but the Celts, much like the Gypsies were nomadic. Mainly originating from the Middle East and India, I believe. So it's really no surprise that much of their cultures kind of bled into one another and formed the beauty that is Flamenco and Celtic dance.
