I never thought I would have to deal with anything like ASD and the overwhelming feeling that I can’t do this in time. My son is only 6 but each day I don’t really help him feels like I’m neglecting him. This was the 1st video I’ve watched that didn’t freak me out. Hearing Roz was non verbal until 12 and didn’t really talk u til 25 but is now a public speaker, speaks volumes. Thanks for your channel.

I needed this I'm living in a country that has nothing free for autism and as a single mom with no income I'm home alone 24/7 with my kid. They put him out if school and this country doesn't facilitate autism or adhd. Unfortunately I'm alone in this until he's old enough to maybe go to work with Me if any employer will allow it. I highly doubt unless it's like house cleaning. We barely have food and clothing but he's so bright and smart. He just can't sit down for too long. I'm going to watch all your videos now. I don't have any help. Thanks for this. You're a God sent.

My son is six ,he has autism Ive spent many nights drinking and crying to myself about the situation however he is the most beautiful person Ive ever seen! I will never give up on him! If you don't mind me asking what country do U live in that doesn't have much care for autism?
Hi. What country are you in? I feel deeply like for you. I am a Single Mom too with 4 kids but I have two jobs and help from my state. They pay for my sons ABA therapy, Speech therapy and Occupational therapy. I am so overwhelmed all the time because I have ADHD myself...I would send you some money because I can't even imagine...but I don’t know how to contact you....

Wow you don’t know how happy I’m that I found your channel thank you for your words to never give up and to always push your child , honestly I was about to give up on my 5 year old son because it’s so hard having a kid with autism and him been nonverbal, but when you said this lady Ros spoke at age 25 wow that really gave me hope because I really want to hear my son talk thank you so much you have no idea how much I wanted to hear something like that.

Love watching your videos and as a mom with a daughter that has autism i have realized that i have to be extra patient with my daughter even though it's not easy at times. Still learning and navigating the world of parenting a child with autism. Watching your videos just gives me the peace of mind that i need to keep going to help my daughter get the support she needs.

It is such a blessing to watch this video. My goodness... You are so lucky that there is help support and love for the special children. I for one find this very very hard because I am a solo father of 4 children and 2 of them are autistic. Unfortunately, the mother of my children left our family for another man who can supply her with plenty of money. She left our family I think she is ashamed of the fact that 2 of our beautiful angels are autistic. I can only wish there was support or a special system for special children like my poor autistic boys. Is there a group of parents that I can reach out to for teachings and support in raising my autistic boys? watching this video brings tears to my eyes as a solo father caring for my children. I never thought I would ever speak in such a way of heartbreak.

I have always had high expectations for my son since always even before starting to show delays in his speech etc and I definitely agree with Ross... I feel that it has been a very important factor in His improvements now and I keep challenging him and pushing boundaries. I will recognise it is exhausting, you might feel sad or discouraged when you push to hard or doesn’t get the outcome you wanted but time will proved you did the right thing as it might not work the first time, first couple of time but will pay off later. Never give up if it doesn’t always go well. Cry all you need, sleep on it, stop for a while, rethink it and try again as often as you need.

WOW!!!! This really spoke volumes to me. My husband and I feel this same way, it is hard at times but we know we have to push our boys to be their best. I too have to catch myself and
push them to do things for themselves. Everyday just trying to have a healthy balance in parenting. Great video!

I saw Roz Blackburn some 12 yrs ago and actually surprised me that she was still in Nappies and I asked Her carer I f I could talk to her and she said Yes so I went up to her and I totally threw her she was totally Lost so as I could see she was floundering I decided just to say how much I enjoyed her talk! well put together and rehearsed till she has got the talk down to perfection but anything else will throw her out of kilter a very nice women very inspirational we were invited to her talk as part of a professional conference, talk was really interesting.

Very true, i know there are limits but i truely believe my son who is also ASD will have challenges and will have to learn how to make things work for him but he can and will. I do a lot from him but i also believe pushing those limits.

I have started to realise we need to help our son how to handle situations and how he copes/reacts is something we are working on every day! Keep being the fab advocate Tara! ❤️

I so glade I ran across your video the way I felt my heart melted I a single mother for two my daughter is older then my son by 11 months my son has ASD and ADHD he’ll be 4 in a couple of days just watching your videos gave me so much hope because these last couple of days have been trying for me I talked and cried to my family but I still feel like they just don’t understand because it’s not there child to to see you with your so gave me so much more hope for me and my son it just hard at this point my kids are so close and they both need attention and sometimes my son requires more attention and my daughter react well and by them being practically the same age it’s hard for her to understand is there advice you can give me thank you in advance
Triple K Royal Family first of all i want to give you a huge hug and tell you what an awesome job you are doing! Wow your incredible . This is hard for you right now as your babies are close and your on your own. Your son can he go to a specialist nursery setting and I’m guessing school next September. If you have anyone that can help during the day so they can take either your son or your daughter so you can spend some one on one time with them? If you son like iPads or tv don’t feel guilty letting him play on mums phone while you cuddle play with your daughter . This helped me with Dylan and luca when luca was younger. I’m sorry I’m probably not much help but just sending you love xox

Great video. I totally agree and my son is 3 he come to me for biscuits he has to look at me for one and we working on words. I also agree with not doing things for them but with them and also words my husband is the one to much language. I listen to a guy with autism he amazing. Very interesting video as you know I am now 18 with ASD I am not mute I have over places we’re I struggle my sister is only just starting to talk to strangers at 12 she has really struggled and the lady who delivered the speech you spoke about is so right you do have to keep pushing your child because we live in a world we’re we have to adapt to everyone els to get a job and be successful xx

It’s the same with any child, the more you do for them, the less independent they become. I was always determined to create an independent and self sufficient child, but having an autistic child has thrown a spanner in the works, I’ve definitely had to adjust my expectations, but I’m still determined for him to become independent.
I feel like it’s the role of a father to make sure the mother is not too much of a soft touch and to ensure the child is still challenged regularly.

My son Noah was diagnosed at 3 with ASD and ADD, he is now a few months from his 5th birthday. Raising him will be the hardest thing I'll ever do in my life, I have anxiety and depression that is revolved around his future. I never think about the present, I worry about how long this phase will last or if it will ever get better. I get stuck in a funk often because of Autism and i'm not afraid to admit that it is hard to handle as a mother. I didn't sign up for this. WHY am I a special needs mom? WHY me? WHY my son? I have a lot of questions. I struggle to live in the moment and find things that I can do with my son. I frequently do things like dressing and feeding for him because it is faster than letting him do it himself. I am in Florida USA. I just wanted to write a comment cause I stumbled across your channel. I love your calm videos and your accent. Thank you for sharing!
i know its hard lovely , and its hard to think of the now and not worry to far ahead in the future. i worry too and its normal and natural . does your son like swimming? try find something you can together and make sure you take some time for you also. i used to think why me too , i was on a totally different career path and i gave it up to help him and to now to help others. in a way its made me a better person and i always say my lows are the lower than others, but the highs are higher than others.. sending you a big hug

When I met Ros some 11 yrs ago she gave a talk and having kids on the spectrum And not knowing what to expect with kids on the spectrum I had a few questions so asked her carer if I could speak to her she said yes of course but when I approached Ros it totally threw her and as I could see as a neural typical I withdrew as she was getting a bit agitated by my presence. I found it intigueing that she could be so able to give a talk yet still be in nappies and not get the concept of toilet training. Now my step children are adults on the spectrum And the youngest being so able in some respects yet so Profound autistically in other respects.
It's very demanding role but worth it x

I am a mother and I have autism. I agree with the essence of all of this, but with a big caveat that hasn’t been acknowledged in the comments here:
If everything is new, it’s too much at once.
The example of slowly increasing the requirements to be allowed outside is a good one. That’s at home in a familiar environment. But once you start talking about new places and new people, it’s so easy to go too far at once.
To someone who doesn’t have autism, it may seem reasonable that “kids need to learn to go new places” so they need to be just brought places.
But I’d suggest making sure lots of other things stay the same when that happens. Make sure familiar people are around, that your kid is wearing familiar comfy clothing, and so on.
The last time I was at the dentist (which normally isn’t a problem for me) I had a new hygienist who used a different type of scaling tool, I sat in a different chair, something wet touched my face, and the sounds around me seemed different… it was too many changes at once. I could have handled one or two of those changes, but I had to stop the appointment.
A kid in my situation (with autism, maybe without) could easily have had a screaming crying fit, without anyone knowing why because those changes weren’t so obvious to anyone else.
Teach kids to try new things at the pace they can manage.
These parents talking proudly about pushing their kids may be trying to do this already, but it isn’t really clear here and I think it may be hard (for people without autism) to identify what is causing upset some of the time.
I have a topic that I would love for you to touch base on if possible!! I have a 6 year old son name Ayden who was diagnosed at the age of 2. I now have a 3 month old and I see Ayden becoming jealous. Ayden doesn't really like to be around the baby at all so with that being said he gets jealous and isolates himself more than usual..how did Dylan do when his sibling was brought home how did he handle it and how did u deal with bringing a new baby to the house? I wanted to have a sibling for Ayden so he can have a forever best friend but there are times where I feel like I made the wrong decision because Ayden is having such a hard time adjusting that he's not the only child. I would love to hear your story.

Mine is 15. She won't use the toilet for number 2. It's tough. I'm trying different strategies. In the interim... Bath and body works has good sales on hand soap hahahahahaha
Did your son do ABA therapy?
My daughter goes quiet on long journeys and acts all tired and wants to sleep when in the van. Other times she can't sit still, driving sooths her.
