- Hi and welcome to the THEKOIPOND and in this week's video we will be making a DIY up flow filter
Or what we call the TOWER filter so here is a list of the items you will need to make the TOWER filter
What you need is
150mm Clear tube £32 x1 (1m)

6" 4" Rubber reducer £16.95 each x2

110mm pipe cut to about 12cm £8 x2
Wickes £8 for a 1m waste pipe need to cut it yourself
1.5" 8cm long pipe x2 wickes sell 3m pipe £3
One egg crate cut to the size as your tube £2 ebay
90 degree elbow plastic x1 £0.70p wickes
T piece x1 £1.50 wickes
Slide valves £11.95 each x2 ebay
Total cost for the TOWER filter is £124.95 to make
EA TEMPEST cost £249 to buy new

Hi can u help me I see you have put down where you got you 6" to 4" do you have the part number is just I've ordered over 6 of them and the 6" end is begher than 6" if you you know what I mean its mor 7/8" cos they are for clay I'm after ones that just go over a 6" pipe
This is a great idea if you understand
Flow rate & water velocity
150mm is not big enough max water flow rate at that diameter is around 3500lth you will require a 200mm tube to achieve 5000lth.

All about flow/velocity for these upflow filters.
If you put a gate on the outlet and closed it when you clean the filter , keep the pump on and it will jet clean the media

Hi did you put an air valve on this?
Hi I added a uniseal then a air line
Mate you need a gate valve at the top too otherwise you won't get the bubbles coming in at the bottom to agitate the media.
Hi there is a ball valve coming off my DIY shower spray bar wish will be contacted to the TOWER when it's up and running properly but thanks for the information 👍

The one wrighty made don't need one at the top as he has air to agitate his look at the one northern koi keeper has made.
One will come with the filter as I didn't add one in the video as my shower has one but a gate valve will come with it so they will be 3 in total in the kit plus we are doing to size s. One at one 1m and a mini TOWER at. 50cm
The TOWER filter use air to clean the media just wait on a 8mm uniseal

They do a 50cm or 1m we can make a mine tower at 50cm or the big TOWER at 1m tail
