Watch This Toyota Corolla Tear Up the Race Track

- A Toyota Corolla probably isn’t what you’d expect to see on a race track. While many automakers have dubbed the electric vehicle as their best tool to fight climate change, Toyota has been promoting hydrogen-powered engines for years. At the Super Taikyu 24-hour race at Fuji Speedway in Japan, Toyota chose to test out a Corolla on the track. Unlike the Corolla in everyone’s driveways, this one has an engine that takes hydrogen fuel.
I really hope Toyota makes hydrogen successful. In the 24 hours of Nürburgring another team also ran a Supra with fully synthetic fuel that has zero emissions and it ran quite well. The future of combustion engines is not over.
Won't happen
Because of the cost and the synthesizing needed to make fully synthetic
Combustion engines simply aren't efficient in converting chemical energy into rotational energy. The engine itself is also heavier than fuel cells, as the walls have to withstand the force of many rapid explosions. Fuel cells with electric motors is more practical in daily driving.
Hydro is extremely more flammable than gas or batteries
@@ImustbeAIstupid comment
Those who know cars will NOT be surprised to see a Corolla tearing up the race track in Fuji
Exactly!
wait until they hear about the Super GT Prius
yup
I wasn't' surprised at alll loooool
Its on te37
as long as hydrogen cars have that same amazing sound combustion cars make i'm fine with it
Until it explodes it’ll sound pretty near the same. The giant explosion will sound different
@@TylesBrain thats all i care about, that it sounds good
They’re fairly silent
so yiur saying you rather randomly get blown up casue hydrogen isnt made to be used for fuel becasue it can explosed once it touches air and a source of ignition
@@CyberGamingStudiosOfficial Toyota has been using it for years. They have been selling hydrogen cars in Japan for more than 10 years now and you simply don't hear about any of them exploding. Have you been living under a rock?
Toyota has been developing hydrogen vehicles for a while now and they finally figured it out. Combustion hydrogen engines makes more sense and it’s probably cheaper too than the fuel cell. We just need the infrastructure to be built up. Hydrogen also makes more sense than EVs since it takes the strain on the power grid away.
Combustion hydrogen engines doesn't make more sense than fuel cells because of the low efficiency of the combustion engines, if that Corolla had fuel cells it' would have a back seat!!!
Hydrogen combustion is only easier for engine assembly lines, however the infrastructure needed to transport and deliver it to your vehicle is far more complex, expensive and dangerous.
Toyota can't never go wrong
Mk5 supra left the chat
@Zach Gonzales yes there is, buddy.
@@MrZachgonz mk4 is overrated
Really , so who is gonna supply that kind of hydrogen? You think it the same one use in the last version? Well it is not, this one cost alot more to process, as it frozen.

@@LegXacyMitsubishi is a huge slap in the face. They used to make many great cars and participate in different races, and they just ditch that to make EV SUVs instead, not only that they slap the Eclipse name on a plastic crossover.
@@InternalxHD hello
The biggest issue I know of with hydrogen is storage. Since it is the smallest element, there is nothing that can hold it perfectly. It will leak from any storage container known to man.
Same goes for electrons
then how come we can hold water in plastic bottles huh? checkmate
The toyota mirai which is a Hydrogen sedan is complained for having the same size as a bmw 5 series but a very compact interior of atleast like a corolla. Because the majority of the cabin/interior space is taken up by the Hydrogen container
this is insane and awesome at the same time that inside edition is posting a racing video of a toyota corrolla. TY! keep them coming.
This was the car I saw during the livestream of the Fuji 24 Hours. It was the coolest looking car I saw.
Looks just like any other gr corolla
@@koraegi which is cool
Now that's a fast pit crew
🤣🤣🤣
Faster than Bottas' 2021 Monaco pit stop
Woah!! Can’t believe Inside Edition is reporting on this! Great to have the media be in full support of Toyota. As a Toyota guy myself this is huge!!!
real
funny thing is that an electric car isn't any more environmentally friendly than a combustion car. the amount of lithium mined to make an electric car battery doesn't get negated in 10 years, which is the average life of an electric car battery. hydrogen and synthetic fuel powered cars actually have proven to not provide any emissions, they just cost a little more
Exactly bro

Actually, it is because a Dacia Logan ran the Nurburgring 24 earlier this month.
It got demolished too. 😢 RIP lil Dacia
@@Synthwave89 it lived since 2021.
Rip Dacia Logan, 2021-2023
now thats what i'm talking about, an enviormentally friendly and awesome car that can tear up the track .well done toyota 👏
Love the body style on the new Corolla
It's not new though?
Can imagine you being in first place then beginning to sweat thinking about pit stopping 💀
I remember way back in 1980 I was sitting in my French class thinking wouldn’t it be cool if they had a sequential injected hydrogen powered car?
It runs on water, that's more clean then EV cars and we can keep our combustion engines and this stuff can be used at Fual stations right now, saves tons of money
? Dumb. EV is better than Hydrogen. Whos gonna get you the power to first break down water and then pressurise hydrogen and then store it at low temps and transport it? All this comes from coal power plants aka more pollution. Also not to mention Hydrogen is still costly to repair and harder for DIY. Mess with the engine and it won't work. EV at least something can be done by hand cause it doesn't involve pressurised chambers.
@@gwadamit8116 ^^^^^ ladies and gentlemen an EV activist
The process that this hydrogen use is a lot expensive that regular hydrogen, this had to be frozen.
so we just assume the fact that hydroelectric, solar, nuclear, wind power, and the continued shutdown of coal plants don’t exist anymore then
@@GuninGames As much as i love the car community and my NA engines, he is right. Hydrogen is much more complicated and dangerous than EVs. And as of right now the best solution for our environment.
If they sound nice, is something I can work on myself & modify to my likings then I am in !!
Wonder if it's gonna take a Formula H series (like Formula E) to help normalize it
This sounds like a completely irrelevant venture……..
And I’m willing to pay many dollars to see this formula H thing happen if this Motorsport idea ever comes true.
Formula E did a great job. I started watching it and the racing was so bad I had to stop…….
Not to mention how much worse for the environment it is than formula 1. It didn’t even take the greenwashing to turn me away. The racers themselves (especially a certain French driver) made the watching experience miserable and I had to turn it off
Now thats epic since the family car is a Corolla.
This is the future not EVs
I'd much rather this be the future than electric cars! If they still make engine sounds, then this will be perfect! Maybe even the best alternative to gas cars!
@@makiagrigsby8211 neither will be the future Both EV and Hydrogen have critical issues. With EV it's the production/discard of batteries which is extremely dangerous. With hydrogen it's the problem of production and logistics of the fuel itself. Neither of them have made any significant development in the past decade. Or should I say they have been pushing this issue under the rug until it explodes into a new environmental crisis.
@@gwadamit8116 it's totally doable though. Both EVs and hydrogen cars have their pros and cons, but hydrogen is way more environmentally friendly than EVs or even gas cars, with EV'S actually being more harmful than gas due to their extremely toxic batteries. Once again, hydrogen cars could be a better alternative for EVs.
@@gwadamit8116The production and burning of fossil fuels is just as dangerous as ev batteries. Car batteries can be reused as grid storage after degradation.
Hell yeah, Toyota Corolla drivers rise up.
The AE86 would be proud

buy a GR Corolla
@@Zeroneii3 no money
Damn, that ‘Rolla be fine.
That does it, I’m getting a Corolla 😂
"A toyota corola probably isn't what you expect on a race track"
Soooooooo many people have been racing corrolas since the corolla came out in the 60s lol
lol yeah
There have been several people who have invented car engines that run entirely on water and two of them were murdered
I'll buy this car now.
As a proud owner of a 2010 Corolla LE owner with 210,000 miles. I can finally breathe. When 2035 hits, this is the car I will be buying. Hydrogen.
They already got the Toyota Mirai, I never see one on the road though.
@@FructozeProductions that one is fuel cell hydrogen car not ICE hydrogen car. I sat in one it’s very quiet clean but accelerates like a Prius, very slow. the Corolla with ice hydrogen should be very fun. Hydrogen is super volatile and burning it should release much more energy than extracting with a tiny fuel cell. I’m rooting for Toyota, if they don’t figure it out traditional motor sports could die out. Terribly inefficient but it doesn’t matter if it’s for fun. Good luck Toyota!
Toyota is also used in nas car . The Camry sits in the line up , used in the Daytona . The Talladega
Rally, hillclimb, drag racing, you name it. Toyota is a motorsports powerhouse, they just dont get love for it in America.
Always love seeing more development of hydrogen for cars. I still maintain hydrogen is a much more sustainable solution than battery when it comes to EV.

I definitely saw a Toyota Corolla "tear" up a race track in this video
I think switching to electric or hydrogen is fine as long as it can be made affordable
That 3.0 thick enough to handle 20psi of boost EASILY
Still amuses me that we're gonna trust the average person to be able to handle hydrogen safely considering what I've seen happen at regular gas stations 😂
GR Corolla... ♥️
Amazing
Takumi is probably driving that Corolla
probably lol
I think synthetic fuels with little to no emissions and still function on current powertrains would still be the better option.
This is why weed needs to be legal so you can make hemp fuel
This reminds me of the fight between Blueray and HD-DVD. I think I am going to wait a bit before i pick one up.
also you have to freeze that to crazy cold temperatures to yield the best power results... hydrogen/water powered cars has been around since the 90s but the only thing that makes it a technology hard to push for transportation is the power output.... solve that and we would be running vehicles with it.
Hydrogen is DOA for cars but for long haul trucking and aircraft there is potential.
Gr Corolla is amazing
Wouldn't eFuels technically be a better option overall tho? Most combustion engines can run them with little modification and since it's basically the same as gasoline the already existing infastructure could just be used for it instead of having to make it from scratch.
Not enough money to be made for the big guys in power.
No. It would not, you see hydrogen is biodegradable unlike lithium batteries. And plus hydrogen is better for the environment because hydrogen cars won’t leave giant electric car graveyards because people can’t afford batteries.

This is the best news I've heard Toyota is the number #1 best cars the Corolla and the Camry along with the Avalon.
Awesome better than electric
It might be more efficient to use a membrane to convert the hydrogen to electricity rather than simply burning it. Also worth noting where the hydrogen was sourced. If it was made from natural gas, it isn't very green! Hydrogen might be decent for aircraft who can only go to so many destinations. This is important because hydrogen needs to be stored in a pressurized cryo cooled container. Meanwhile, you can carry a gallon of gas wherever you want for months in a flimsy plastic container.
Also, I'm not convinced that combustion hydrogen cars wouldn't product NOx emissions. Sure they can be mitigated by a catalytic converter, but so can most emissions from a petrol car.
I am hoping Toyota can make it real good. I still want the sound and 3 pedals.
We never thought it was possible...
Toyota for life!!!!
I'm holding onto my ICE Civic as long as I can until hydrogen fuel and infrastructure becomes mainstay in society. Long live ICE cars
I’m Not surprised to see a Corolla at Fuji Speedway
This is why I like Toyota
Much cleaner and sustainable than electricity.
Porsche’s E-Fuels would be cool
I honestly thought they were gonna show Ryan Tureck

IMO this shift for Hydrogen isn’t going to be embraced by other countries like the US and Canada because it may not be in their interest economically.
Hydrogen is extremely flammable and explosive. We'll see what safety measures they'd implement about it
Cool
Im telling you ethanol hybrid is how it will go. Hydrogen has to be stored at such high pressure that in a crash it will just explode. ethanol is just a liquid like petrol but it can be made without using any oils
Isnt ethanol in alcoholic drinks?
@@KenjiNuyttens yes that's why you can use vodka to travel as emergency fuel
yep something this video did not reveal that cars was also running synthetic fuel like methanol, not sure if ethanol is one.
As a teenager, I support Toyota and every other car company that supports hydrogen
The fuel AND the lubricant.
It is important to address this topic with accuracy and sensitivity. The mining of minerals, including lithium and cobalt, in certain regions of Africa has raised concerns about unethical practices, including exploitative labor conditions. While it is true that some mining operations have been associated with poor working conditions and human rights issues, it is incorrect to say that people from Africa as a whole work like slaves to harvest lithium and cobalt.
That must be Where’s981 in his Corolla.
We could have water powered vehicles but the fbi and cia will never let that happen.
Certified Toyota moment 🫡
Wait till the rust problem started knocking on your door💀
Super taikyu ❤
Still gonna buy the GR with the 300hp gas 3 cylinder, and the 6 speed manual transmission if I’m gonna get the Corolla.
this what everyone in south florida thinks their corolla be like 💀💀💀
Wasn’t expecting to see this video on inside edition. The GR Corolla is such a dope car. Too bad it has insane dealer markups. And that hydrogen cells can be dangerous
Water vapour is technically a greenhouse gas lol

It should be clarified that the Corolla H2 uses _combustion_ engine and not fuel cells. It's exactly like regular engine but it is fed with Hydrogen instead of gasoline. Previous they used H2 gas but starting 2023 they're experimenting with liquid H2.

Also Toyota Have announced a hypercar or LMH (for those that know Endurance Racing) that’ll be incorporating Hydrogen Power set to be racing in 2026.
I'm scared coz when my dad tried to make one together with his friend it caused a mini explosion and that was just a small amount. What if it was as big as a normal one though. It would blow up a house
