wow this looks so do able.just looking at it I thought yes Im going to make this. all bags look fantastic. All the stray 5 inch scraps and black, or even a themed bag.
What a terrific project to make while traveling! Squares could be made ahead of time, then sewn together using the ladder stitch. Also, such a unique handle! Thanks!
Why not miter the corners on the squares? Would look much nicer.

Actually, I just realized I DIDN’T hand sew them! I enjoyed hand turning and pinning them. Then I sewed on the machine! 😂

Instead of using a straight stitch to sew the binding down on the individual squares, could you use a decorative stitch along the edge?

Thank you so much for the great tutorial. You made it look so easy. I have one question. When you join the two squares together what to you set your machine stitch to for the zigzag? The stitch looks so small in the width and length looks close together. When I sewed my hexagons last year they were so much bigger. I liked yous because they were so small that you almost couldn’t see them.

I may have to try this bag, that is once my right hand heals. I truely miss sewing,it’s been about a month since I’ve sewn anything.
You could use one of your fancy stitches to sew the binding down too.

Is there anyway to add pockets to the inside or outside of the bag
I would think that if you wanted to add pockets, just make more QAYG blocks, and just stitch 3 sides, leaving one side open to create your pockets, wherever you want to place the pockets, since they are completely lined and bound already. I was thinking the same thing... pockets would be nice.

@@rhondaalbrecht great idea. I think you’d have to sew the top seam to the square above it before you sew the three sides of the pocket together; otherwise you might accidentally sew the top closed. 😂
Hi, I'm just wondering do you hand stitch the other side of bag to the base? Can't see how you could do it on a sewing machine once it's in a tube shape, I'm learning so be kind lol
A question regarding using the zigzag stitch. Could I use my serger and do a decorative flatlock stitch instead?
If you used wrap n zap, then it would make a great lunch bag

Can you use the chicken scratch stitch to join the pieces of this bag together instead of a zigzag?
? When adding the 5 in panels to the ends of the zip, instead of hand sewing, could it be done on the machine with a zigzag stitch?

Is there a template for the smaller squares? If not, what size is the small square and what size do I cut the backing for the small square?
small squares are 2-1/2"... you'll need to make the backing 3-1/2" square so that you have 1/2" extended past the top piece, and be able to double-fold it into a 1/4" binding.
She does have both sizes of the templates. If you look closely, you’ll see them sitting on her desk. 🌷

Hello Nicola. What is your ironing pad?
Pattern for Handle is Not the same as our pattern. It is 3 pieces to cut out. Cutting on the fold to make a long handle, as Nicola suggested makes more sense.
Could one use that joining method on actual quilts?
Do the rulers have a nonskid back?
