    I bought the ranger and love it. It feels better on wrist than in photos. Anyway, it's okay that many people hate it and dislike this model and express numerous negative thoughts. It just make me realize that I really bought it solely becos "I like it" but not becos "others like it".

    Ordered my Ranger yesterday. This is a sleeper that will only appeal to those who really want simplicity and durability. I'd guess most will think it's too simple, boring, whatever aesthetically, but to me it's perfect and exactly what I want in a high-quality field watch. You have to see it in the flesh to appreciate it, the dial has some great texturing. Will keep it forever, and hope to get many battle scars on it throughout the years :) Thanks for the great vid!

    My kind of watch. To complain it's boring is to completely miss the point IMHO. Let this Tudor be the kind of watch Rolex doesn't even make anymore. A simple, functional field watch that is about clarity of form and simplicity of function. It's superb.

    The design of this model was just what I was looking for in my next watch. The clean unassuming face with a brushed steel case/bracelet and solid build quality that doesn't attract attention. This fits my style of a luxury daily driver like a Toyota Land Cruiser, well done Tudor.

    This was my first watch. I graduated about a year ago and got a great job so I’d been out on the prowl for months and when the Ranger got released I emailed the AD straight away. I was lucky enough to get the first one in my city. I love it so much and every time I look at it I just feel proud. I actually like it’s simplicity and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

    One thing that is often overlooked with the dial design is that it really closely matches the aesthetic of state and national park ranger uniforms, at least the ones here in the US. It’s not a sexy uniform but is highly functional and distinct. Kind of like hiking pants lol

    I just bought one last week. It was our families first time on a cruise and I was also celebrating my 10 year anniversary of starting my own business. I could not possibly be any happier. It’s my first Tudor. I own several Omegas, a couple of Oris watches, some Hamilton’s (new and vintage), I also have some micro brands I learned about from your videos Ocean Crawler, Traska and Vaer. I am super impressed and in Love with the Ranger.

    I loved this watch from the moment I first saw a picture of it. I went into a shop and tried it on a couple of months or so and immediately made the decision to reserve one. I picked up today (after it arrived a about a week ago) and I absolutely love it. I own a Rolex Datejust in steel and white gold that I got new in 1985, plus I bought a new Panerai Radiomir Black Seal in 2008. This Tudor Ranger is right up there with those two watches. All of the negative comments about “too boring”, “ not eye catching” is exactly what I like about it. Its classic and simple styling make it a tour de force. Less is more.

    Great review. I own the new Tudor and opted for the hybrid rubber strap. It simply looks great and wears amazingly well. The key for me was getting over the 39mm case, as I found my BB58 Navy Blue a little on the small size. The larger dial on the Ranger ticks those boxes. The T-Fit clasp like on my other BB58 Boutique Bronze is just fantastic and affords you the ability to adjust on the fly as temperatures affect your wearability. I like the printed numerals and one dimensional look on the hybrid rubber, it just works so well. The price is great considering you're getting pedigree in the MT COSC certified engine. The sapphire domed crystal also makes it all pull together. Fabulous review as always

    Love this new Ranger! I didn't like the outgoing one at all, so this is a big improvement, especially with the in-house movement! I would say that this model is best described as a "Black Bay-ized" Ranger. Which I think is a logical move, since the Black Bay is so popular. This approach works well for the Ranger, and gives it continuity with Tudor's other sport models. While it lacks a little of the original Ranger's charm and gracefulness, it does make the new Ranger more sporty and solidifies it as a modern Tool Watch. The small, original case being lifted from the Prince, which was of course more of a dress model and didn't quite work for it's purpose as a robust sports watch. Also, the new look further differentiates it from the traditional Oyster styling of current Rolex models. All these new models have done the seemingly impossible task of giving the modern Tudor brand its own separate look while still retaining some of its Rolex design cues. The only puzzling thing about the new Ranger is why there is no dial reference to its seemingly Chronometer movement. Do we know its COSC for sure?

    I think it looks much better in person. I have been able to checkout all three options. The bracelet and clasp are amazing, especially for the price point. If I was looking for a watch that could go anywhere and do anything I think the bracelet is the best, but for someone looking for a tool watch they will wear hiking or casually I think their nato strap looks the best. It adds some color, helps the bit of red on the seconds hand pop and really gives it a rugged field ready esthetic. The black rubber strap also looks great, and is very comfortable. If I wanted versatility, but lived somewhere hot, or wanted to keep it under 3k the rubber strap is perfect.

Didn’t go looking for it but the finish and in house movement took my eye and I was impressed though the scarcity of any Rolex but mainly the sports ones means it was a great piece for fair money. Delighted with the watch I can see why some may say it has a boring face but I like the no fuss, good size face add to its history (though I agree tentative). Great perspective, Teddy (as usual).
    I tried one of these at my local AD and it fit well. Love the “former” Explorer vibe. The printed face is nice (see: vintage Explorers that everyone seems to love) - whereas the new Explorer seems a bit too flashy for a tool watch.
    Bottom Line: I’ll stick with my 41mm Heritage Ranger. I like the red seconds hand and bigger face, despite the fact that I have a small wrist. I just like the look better. It’s also great on a NATO or silicone strap.

    Hi Teddy, I think the "flatness" of the dial being very basic and simple is a break from the moderness of the watch today as many like myself who want vintage watches like old Rolex explorers which isn't really bad as this is what the watch is going for apart from the utilitarian theme. For me I think the price is a bit steep for my budget, the Seiko MM300 is still on my radar so the decision is easy. I like field watches also, for this I will buy the new Seiko 5 field which is in the same vein.

    - to be min 500$ - max 1,500-2,000$
    - to have the mechanism visible, and the mechanism should preferably be in-house mechanical, to make a sensation when the watch is turned back. Although it's a small budget, which watch do you think puts on a real show with the mechanism?

This watch is more tool watch than luxury and I like that.
    Plus in house movement nice bracelet etc.
    The size of this appeals to me more as I find the 38mm khaki field auto a perfect fit for me. 36mm on the explorer scares me (and my wallet).

    Watch prices are all over the place when looking at different manufacturers. I was just looking at the Vertex M100. I think, off the shelf, the watch costs the same as Tudor....and it only has a Sellita movement. The Ranger may not appeal to everyone but with the manufactured movement and Tudor's overall quality I think this is a great deal. It's all subjective, but I would purchase it.

    I don't mind the dial, it's oldschool. But I think the Ranger might look good with the numerals and indices carved out and filled with lume. Or applied. But as it is I still love it.

  • @Nefville

    I was _so_ close to pulling the trigger on this one but I backed out. Its the dial, its too plain. I get where they were trying to go with this but in my opinion they took it just a little too far (dial, so much brushing) and not far enough (should have been 36mm or an option). On top of that I have the silver dial BB36 and the versatility of that watch _really_ made it hard to get the Ranger.

    The main complaint seems to be the printed script versus applied markers. But here’s the thing…the old rolex explorer 1016, which sells for over 20k sometimes, also has a printed script. Some people also complain about this the rangers price point, but all things considered like the movement, bracelet and sapphire crystal, its actually a very reasonable bang for your buck. I personal want one but for 10-15% under retail if possible. Lol

    • @ProfessorPesca
      @ProfessorPesca Před rokem +1

      This is the correct take. I would absolutely love a 1016, but I can’t afford one (and frankly don’t think it’s worth what it sells for even if I had the money). So I could either get a homage, which doesn’t sit all that well with me, or buy this which is still a sort of heritage product that is really reminiscent of the 1016 Explorer without being a direct copy.

    • @OhDearBabajan
      @OhDearBabajan Před rokem

      @@ProfessorPesca Yeah I just think the white space, so to speak, or rather the the black space on the dial, in combination with luminous printed script, and considering the dial is grained matte, is exactly why people like this watch. It’s just clean and simple. And I think a lot of people don’t understand just how good the movement is. KIF anti-shock systems that replace the standard incabloc typically used in ETA movements. Tudor makes very touch and durable watches. I haven’t bought the ranger yet, but I did put a deposit down on one. Now I am somewhat contemplating between the ranger and the bb 59 39mm, which is also a classic.

    Huge Tudor fan generally. My advice here though is to stick to the Black Bay range (incl. 58, GMT & Chrono) Get the Explorer (if you can) as opposed to the Ranger for this style watch. The white gold applied markers are much nicer than the greeny painted markers here imho.

    It's the lume on the minute hand. Why does it stop so short of the point of the hand. I know this sounds ridiculous, but once I've seen it, I can't un-see it.

    I feel ironically that this is less the 2nd choice or "poor mans" Exp39 than say the Black Bays are to the Sub. I have an Exp39 and it's a great one. Although, the sharpness in appearance due to the polished bezel and raised/applied indices gives it an OP meets a Datejust level of dressiness. This Tuder is bones cool. Has a Panerai Base toolishness to it. For me anyway. I'd buy it.

    I'm one of those "weird" guys who actually prefer the shovel hour hand to the snowflake hand on the diver models. Not typically a fan of painted on markers, but eh, it's part of the model DNA. About the only thing that bugs me is the slab side case which gives it a visual cue of being thicker than a Rolex Submariner, even though the Sub is technically a millimeter thicker. I'm also wondering whether the Ranger has improved shock resistance - like the Rolex Explorer - but I'm guessing that was left as an Explorer exclusive.
