Suzuki King Quad 300 differential lock mod

  • I'm not a professional mechanic, but this is how I modified our 1999 Suzuki LT-300-F King Quad so that "Diff Lock" is available in all three ranges, Super-Low, Low, and High.
    ** I advise AGAINST using diff lock in High range, as the steering would be too tough and dangerous. **
    However, we use our King Quad in Low range to plow snow and having the front axle locked should help a lot.
    Total time to do this job was about 50 minutes, and that includes videotaping the whole process. I know this modification will work on other model years, but no promises...
    If this mod works for you, or if you'd like to see more of our King Quad and the various things we've done to it, PLEASE COMMENT! Thanks!
    I've installed custom plow lights, "start in any gear" mod, home made winch-powered plow lifting mechanism, auxiliary LED taillights, etc...
    Start in any gear mod: www.quadcrazy.c...
    No guarantees if that will work for you. I know that wire colors rarely match throughout model years. Snip at your own risk!

    I am absolutely at a loss for words. I found this video by accident!! I am so glad that I found that this could be done. The super low diff lock was the main reason I wanted to get rid of my Quadrunner 250. I would be already started doing this mod if it wasn't dark out. Cant wait to do this! Excellent vid!!

    I did this on my 250 Quad Runner back a year or so ago before I sold it. Its really nice to not have to be in super low. If you are pulling a heavy load or something and need a little speed, you can run low range instead of super low, and still keep the differential locked. Definately a worthwhile mod for anyone with one of these machines.

    Just bought a 95 king quad because of the front diff lock option. I think doing this is a great idea. No more having to shift into super low range. Going out to do it now. Thank u for the great video.

    What year is your KQ? I have a 96-250 that will not start. I am taking off the carb and before rebuilding it, I want to check the fuel shut off valve under the tank and the fuel pump but have no clue on how to check that. Manual says it is vacuum operated and would like to know before tearing down the carb if it is working. Any suggestions on how to test it? If I rebuild the carb and it does not start I will not know if it is the carb or something else. I am getting spark, and air filter will be completely cleaned out, etc. I only have 377 miles on it and it has been sitting in the basement over 10+years. When I spray choke cleaner in the carb it runs but cuts off so I am guessing it is not getting fuel for some reason. Has a 31mm carb. Great video and thanks for sharing. Peace, Mo

    here is my question of the day, how does the pressurized oil get to the camshaft,the shop manual I have doesnt show any of the oil routes, I do know that the 250, and 300 have two oil drain plugs, and there is a screen filter on the front one,, with 3 ten millimeter bolts whats going on is when you attach the universal plate for the snow plow the plate covers up the front oil drain, the set up is just like old air cooled vw,s

    My info came from a guy named Houston who had several KQ300 mods laid out, but his site doesn't appear to exist anymore. Maybe I'll have to go back into mine and make a new video.

    What was Suzukis reason for having diff lock in super low only for ?

    • @vikingsreach
      @vikingsreach Před 5 měsíci

      My only guess is a safety for kids maybe, if you do this trick to your atv , some people say you pull out in high gear in DL it could throw someone off the atv, and it is harder to steer.

    • @atomx111
      @atomx111  Před 3 lety +1

      it held up just fine for me. I used to pull a small trailer w/ firewood up and down some pretty hilly terrain with dirt trails. This is where it helped the most!
      I thought I'd like it for plowing snow in the winter, but I ended up preferring just limited slip for plowing. The diff lock made steering a little more sketchy on ice and snow.
      Yeah, definitely do it! It's nice having the option there, but you can always easily shift out of "diff lock" if you don't like it. No problem!
      Thanks for watching and commenting.

    • @jonhunt5408
      @jonhunt5408 Před 3 lety

      Where the selector cable attaches to the case, by the left rear tire. Remove the 10mm bolt that goes through the lever and attaches it to shift rod in the case. Slide the shift lever off of the rod. With pliers, turn the rod counter clockwise until you can’t turn it any more. It may be necessary to rotate the wheel (in 2wd) so that the forks can slide. Push the range selection lever all the way forward. Reattach the lever, reinstall the bolt. You should now have all your ranges again. Someone has just put the lever back on out of synch with the rod position.

  • @tomashton7208

    sounds like it would work okay, but I wouldnt reccomand going over 20 mph with the front axle locked like that, what do you think about removing the wire screen in front of the carb for increased air flow, and is there a way to mount a 280 cc engine oil cooler onto a 250cc, and do you think having a tach is just a waste, one more note, this is to answer a question about why the engine is set back, there is a factory option for a fan to fit in there and cool the head , these engines also rely on being air cooled.

    • @atomx111

      2wd and 4wd still work completely normally. After this mod, however, you'll have the option to use 'diff lock' and ANY range, not just Super Low.

      I'm pretty sure it's a steering thing. With diff lock, steering gets noticeably tougher on these machines, harder to control on hard surfaces. So be sure you're on slippery/rough terrain only when using diff lock!

    • @InsaneMopar
      @InsaneMopar Před 4 lety

      Its a liability thing and having diff lock at higher speeds hinder the handling of the machine. All atvs that have the diff lock option are speed limited unless you press the override button. I will be doing this mod to my king today since i was wondering how to disable it
