I'm sorry. He's sexier and far more dashing than Willoughby ever will be. That voice alone!❤❤❤😁
And that accent!
Even as Snape he had me 😅
I completely agree
He'll always be my Colonel Brandon ❤
He loved her with every fiber of his being. He even invited the man she loved to see her at the picnic. She fell in love with someone she thought was romantic and charming because she was literally out of a romance novel rescued when she had fallen and hurt her ankle, so naturally the true nature of her lover was shown that he was not a really nice guy on the inside as far as impregnate and abandon a young girl. She could not want to be married to him after finding out what he did to someone else, crying over a loser...such wasted tears. Talking from experience unfortunately, but then the day cones and you get the blinders taken off, she was rescued from 💀 death, her mother was brought to her 💀 death bed and this saviour is backing out humbly and she calls out to him like I'm alive and this New birth sees you and he read her poetry because she wanted it and he was leaving but she wanted him to herself because now she knows he's too good to be true and too good to let get away. He had finances and he was a strong capable man, he just was not successful in dating, but near 💀 death finally brought him happiness. I can relate to being at rock bottom and finding a wonderful person that I could see and now I am happy. The movie works for me because there life was unfortunate because of death, but they had each other and they moved on from place to place and mingled and met men and allowed the men an opportunity to get to know them. It's charming to see gentlemen not caring about money and being happy and seeing women not end up struggling forever just because one man died. It's never over is the point of the movie.
When I'm eighty years old, watching this movie and crying my eyes out over Alan Rickman, my family and friends will ask, "Really? After all this time?" And I will say, "Always."
+What-If Machine I will do that too.... If I am lucky enough to reach 80...
+What-If Machine unfortunately I found out he actually didn't say that quote...I was shocked too...
metro.co.uk/2016/01/14/the-poignant-alan-rickman-quote-doing-the-rounds-is-actually-fake-5623452/
+What-If Machine So will I!
+hipstergeek17 DUMBLEDORE: "Lily ?!? After all these years ?!?
SNAPE: "Always."
Rickman also used those lines in a quote about reading Harry Potter once again when he was in his 80s. Saying that people would say to him, then: "After all these years ?!?" And he would reply: "Always."
Ditto for me, lol! Timeless, sweet, romantic, I shall never tire of this movie. Balm for the heart & soul. The entire cast was fabulous but our darling Alan was at his zenith in this one, at least for me. He had the same 'counenance' in real life, a true softspoken gentleman, ...always. He could teach the men in our era alot. I think I hold my breath thru the entire move but I also go thru an entire box of tissue, lol! (Not a big Hugh Grant fan but even he had a shining role, so I forgive him; I'm sure he's greatly relieved..:P) Peace be with you, my dear, lovely Alan. Our greatest gratitude for such a priceless gem you gave us to remeber you by; our loss, heavens gain. The flame in our hearts will be yours.....Truly. Madly. Deeply. And Always! ((yeah, I stole it but it so bears repeating.....)NOTE: There was no cursing, sweaty love scenes, ninjas or zombies; I wonder, did anyone notice? :-)
Marianne has finally found a man who can read poetry ! A sunny day, a pretty scene and Alan Rickman's voice. It doesn't get any better than that.
It does get better ;) He buys her a piano! So cute!!!
Exactly
He could read the telephone book for me.
I keep thinking that this is when Marianne really fell in love with Colonel Brandon. He reads with such passion and expresses himself so clearly - everything Marianne chastised Edward for not doing. This is what matters to her. Clarity. Passion. Poetry. Intensity.
I absolutely adore their love story because it shows how feelings shift and how we change along with them ✨😍
True...I hope my story ends like this...exactly like this...
I always thought that here too, Marianne grows by having a more realistic view of romance. That's it's deeper than a brief flirtatious passion, but something for more strong, enduring, and longsuffering for the one you love.
When I saw this movie Alan Rickman became immediately my screen crush. Great actor, great personality. May he rests in peace.
Same.
and matthew macfadyen in pride and prejudice
I fell in love immediately. My focus on the movie shifted so that I cared only about Col Brandon and Marianne.
I love telling my wife, "I must away." Learned that here.
I would love to say 'you must away' to few talkative people in my life.
Omg😂
Aww! That’s so cute!!
You are a romantic. I hope to have a husband like that.
@@naomi6091 me too...
God, that voice......
He was born to play these kinds of roles, although he was wonderful as Professor Snape.
Don't use the Lord's name in vain.

I cannot watch this movie anymore without crying. Alan Rickman meant so much for me, even though I never had the pleasure to meet him. I usually don't care so much about celebrities, when one of them die I can be sorry for the loss but I never cry. But Alan Rickman's death totally broke my heart: a piece of my adolescence, of my life has gone with him. I remember when I was a teenager surrounded by Di Caprio's fans, I used to feel ashamed and hide my love for Alan because I was afraid that people could judge me for he was much older than me and not the kind of celebrity that a 15 years old should like; but now that I am 35 I feel proud to have loved such a handsome, smart, polite, beautiful, kind, talented man. Alan Rickman, my sweet Colonel, you'll always be in my heart.
Alan meant so much to me too.I'm 19 and he have a special place in my heart since years.I loved him and feel sorry to not ever meet him in person. Miss you Alan Rickman. ...always 😢😔😔😔😔
even though this comment is 3 years old, you described your feelings perfectly and I'm feeling the same way! It has something strange to be this connected to a person you've actually never personally known but did through his work.
Same here. Never liked Leo nor Brad neither Tom.
Omg I know EXACTLY what you mean!!!
I’m 34 and it was this movie that I fell for Alan Rickman.
I would say more but your beautiful comment is completely how I feel. 🥰
It wasn’t until being married did I “confess” to husband about my crush on Alan Rickman. Lol. I know that sounds silly and dramatic. I’m trying very hard, but not doing a very good job in trying to explain.... I know how you feel.
I still cry when I think about him.
Stay well friend ❤️❤️❤️
And please, try to not let yourself get too sad. I don’t think he would want that for his fans ❤️
This is a much more universal experience then you might think!
" He is not so dashing as Willoughby "
WHAT? excuse me?
"So he is not so dashing as Willoughby."
Uh...open your eyes, Love! And your ears!
In fairness, Greg Wise is GORGEOUS...but come on - it's Alan! 😍🥰🥰
Very dashing! Damn, he was handsome! Love Alan Rickman ❤️
❤❤❤❤🌷🌷🌷🌷
OMG He its more dashing even then Leonardo DiCaprio hahaha.
We love you forever, Alan...
+Paula Martell Rushed here after I learned of his passing. Absolutely loved his acting here. R.I.P. Alan.
Always.
Ah, he's much more dashing than the pretty boy Willoughby!
I agree 100%!!
The MOST dashing ever.
Pretty boys don't stay pretty forever.
"Willoughby" fell for "Elinor" anyway ... so all is well 😂
A real man, unlike Willoughby.
Brandon is SO in love with Marianne. This scene never fails to make me :-) wide. Sometimes, nice guys do get the lady.
Always better to stick with the guy who is crazy about YOU.
Brooke Hanley Brandon taught me how to be a gentleman. Jane Austen taught me how to be a writer.
Scott Lyman Lovely!
Cheers Brooke :-)
Scott Lyman Hope you get your lady. :)
"For there is nothing lost that may be found if sought." Whatever Marianne feels at hearing these words, you can see the profound effect it has on Brandon to read them; the man who lost his first great love to cruel circumstances, and did not dare to hope he could find it again.
A perspective I never thought of before but adds even more depth and his acting here Converse so much.
The poetry aspect of the movie, with each male lead reading their respective selections, is crucial. Each of those poems speaks to the plight, the virtues and vices of Edward, Willoughby, and Brandon.
God I'd marry him just so he could read to me...
lol well at least I'd like him to read to me, I agree with you! :D I have always found a certain "something" about Alan Rickman, he's unusual and striking. Here his character is quietly steadfast and I like that. :)
+simpleLifePDX I have always had a crush on him
+xoxrazzyxox he passed away ;c
I know I got the news at lunch time. I started crying in public
+xoxrazzyxox My Mother has tell me about it in the morning. And I was very shocked about it!
His eyes are saying :I will never stay away from you long, cause I'm not able to do that. So sweet!
Can I please meet a man as gourgeous and as perfect and as intelligent and as just a wonderful human being as Alan Rickman was? :-( :(
No chance
There is always a chance. Don’t listen to the other commenter.
I never thought I would meet anyone. I am not married to a man who is better to me than I ever thought I deserved.
No he doesn’t read me poetry but he shows me in other ways.
Stay strong and don’t let anyone tell you that amazing, devoted love isn’t possible. Because it ABSOLUTELY is!
❤️❤️❤️
@@masuganut2082 Thank you for your lovely response. :) 5 years later and I don't care anymore. Just trying to stay healthy. :D
and matthew macfadyen in pride and prejudice
In Snape's and in Colonel's character he represents (at least to me) that kind of sensible man that can love until the very end and since the very beginning, without losing his manners and his better-judgement.
The pitty is how awfully did Marianne treated him before she realised how he really was, and how much he must have suffer. But even then he wished her all the possible hapinnes, without regrets. He just want her to be healthy, safe and happy. It's like Snape, although the Colonel did never become into a Death Eater (that will be pretty akward).
Long life to Alan Rickman's lovely characters
Amen sister! That is what I was thinkin teough every time I've watched the movie.
I´m glad you agreed with me. He is such agreat actor but, someway, he gives to his characters a bit of himself, of his own particular thoughts and sense of humor. Even of he sees life
A man like the Colonel is ALWAYS the best catch. Most younger women do not see that in the beginning. Some older ones do not either.
I bet all of three of us wish to live 200 years ago. Well maybe just me.
We're two now dearie
I love Alan here when he does that nod n says no n smiles a little my heart skips a beat everytime
*sigh* Oh, I wish I could find a man like Colonel Brandon.
Guys like him do exist. We're few and far between, but we're out there :-)
Scott Lyman
Good to know, I'll keep my eyes open then ;)
:-)
@@scottlyman3394 yes, I hold to that, sir... I'll be waiting for that gentleman! In the meantime, I'll do all that I can to succeed in life and better myself and my family!! I hope i do find him though... My family isn't really known to have a lot of good and faithful husbands who stay in love with their wives for long😔
I love that at least Snape could get the girl in this movie, and the other dude just got the bitternes and loneliness
Oh yes, Brandon the good and honourable man won her heart in the end, it was worth the wait for him because he would never marry her without her loving him in return. And Willoughby, serves him right to be miserable, that's what you get when you marry for money and nothing else!
But what about Mis Grey and her millions ? (and she was beautiful too)
In the books, Snape is selfish and very unlike Colonel Brandon. The former character only wanted to spare Lily because he loved her but didn't care if they killed her husband and newborn. Colonel Brandon on the other hand would walk through fire for Marianne and throughout the story patiently waited for her. He didn't care if she returned his affections. He just wanted to see her happy.
@@mish375 Young Snape was selfish. He atoned for his sins.
@@IndigoIndustrial I never felt he did in the books. He still resented Harry in the end for not being the son he could have had and begrudingly protected him simply because of Lily. I think if Rowling wrote him as someone who regretted his selfishness after being forced to train Harry, then it would have worked.
I love him as Colonel Brandon forever!

It wasn't until I was 9 or 10 watching this movie with my mom in our living room that I understood the plot, and ever since then I've been absolutely in love with Alan Rickman- RIP Alan and his beautifully soothing voice
R.I.P. Alan Rickman. You'll always be Col. Brandon to me before Prof. Snape. First, Bowie. Now Rickman. Two greats and it's only January. It's way to freaking early in the year for this shit!
Colonel Brandon is as dashing and honorable as you can get and that voice ❤❤
There was no one and I do mean no one who was better suited to playing the woeful and taciturn Colonel Brandon than our dear Alan Rickman. RIP.
Agreed
When most of the people was gushing over his Snape, my precious love for him was always rooted on his Colonel Brandon. Miss you Alan. ❤
My favorite role was when he played Metronome (voice of God) in 'Dogma' and was interesting as the Robot in 'Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'. Of course, his character was quite evil in both 'Robin Hood' and 'Michael Collins'. I first saw him in 'January Man' with Kevin Kline. He was in over 50 movies, several BBC tv series and plays in Stratford and London's west end.
@@Friendofstfrank Don't forget Galaxy Quest and Die Hard.
I was crying that the end when they got married I was like " 🙌 YES 🙌 !!! " .
I adored Alan Rickman. He could play and good or bad guy and a lot of actors can't do that. I was so sorry to hear that he had passed away.
I remember some years ago when I saw this I was so surprised that he actually did put all this character he really took me by surprise and it will ever remain in my heart forever
This is when I first fell in love with Alan Rickman!

Alan was beautiful, rest in peace
Taken to soon. I would love to see him continue his marvelous gifts.
Alan Rickman was so swoon worthy! I’ll forever be heartbroken that I wasn’t able to meet him in person. 💔
Alan Rickman was one of the main attractions I love this movie S&S so much. He played romantic English gent (so infatuated w/Marianne), Colonel Brandon, more attractive than Hugh Grant, Hugh Laurie and actor who played Willoughby. Kate Winslet's tearful tribute to Alan on a UK award show was so heartfelt & sorrowful. Both she & Emma Thompson worked on many film projects with Alan. Discovered trivia: Emma married Willoughby actor (forgot his name), and once married to Kenneth Branaugh. There's a great short film with Alan & Emma as former lovers reunited over restaurant luncheon - superb acting.
We will ALWAYS love you Alan..
I still can't believe Alan's gone... Rest in Peace, Mr Rickman... thank you for your Col Brandon etc for us...
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ALAN! HAPPY 75th! Miss you. Miss that face and VOICE! RIP, BEAUTIFUL 🌹
God, I am so going to miss him. I simply adore this man. What a fabulous actor!
One of the best voices in the acting world!
her head from the back in that sunhat seemed like a painting. I love the way this film was presented. Lovely.
Willoughby was a tool!
Alan Rickman, God rest his soul, embodies everything you want in a man in this movie.
I remember watching this movie as a young teen and developed a “crush” on him.
His demeanor is just 🥰
I cried when he passed away as I’m sure so many did.
I pray his soul mate can find peace in her memories of him ❤️❤️❤️
Oh God your voice, your face, I'll cry whenever I watch this beautiful movie again. I miss you so much Alan, who else on Earth can be like you? You're the one, always

Sad Alan is gone but he will be never forgotten thanks to his movies appearances!
This will forever be my favorite movie with him. He was so handsome. R.I.P. Alan Rickman.
Will anyone will be able to portray colonel brandon more beautifully than sir Alan Rickman
So sad, he was the master of the period drama, can't believe he's gone. He will always be Colonel Brandon for me I agree with cj b. He had such an attractive and electric sexy voice, a master. R.I.P. Alan Rickman, one of my absolute favourites!
He's way too good for her
I know..
I am not sure. She was just a teenager after all and still needed to mature a bit.
No he wasn't. She just had to have time to realize how much better he was than she originally thought . And... In the end...she was able to see it.
True
I felt sorry for him throughout the entire viewing
;(
Damn, he was so handsome! And that VOICE! I want THAT VOICE for my GPS……beautiful, just beautiful! RIP, BEAUTIFUL 🥀
ahh.. I'm glad Snape finally found love..
hahaha yess
Professor Snape, you'll always be remembered.
Austen created the superiority of the dashing brooding guy over the pretty boy trope. Mr Darcy anyone?
This is the BEST version of this story ever made ! Alan Rickman made it so worth watching, the world lost a good man and a good actor !
For whatsoever from one place doth fall,
Is with the tide unto an other brought:
For there is nothing lost, that may be found, if sought
― Edmund Spenser, The Faerie Queene
Oh gosh....stop...I'm tearing up now.
Of all the fabulous & thousands of scenes Alan Rickman left us, this is what I harken to first. He shall always be Colonel Brandon to me. Forever and always Sir. Gratitude for your talent and appreciation for your true compassionate nature. Rest peacefully. You are missed.
For all of you who are saying this it’s when you first found love with him, really? Who didn’t love the villain of Robin Hood Prince of thieves??
Or Hans Gruber
This was the first Alan Rickman movie I saw, I think...
Hated him that's how good an actor he was
Yes I loved him since then! And will love him forever.
When I heard the news this morning, I immediately thought of this scene. May you rest in peace, dear friend.
Yes I remember when I heard the news pretty shocked when I saw the internet when they showed that scene where he was carrying her I think it was all over the internet that scene how can you not forget it to me it's iconic

What I wouldn't give to have Alan Rickman, or have had Alan Rickman, read to me. Thank God for Audible.🙏
I need to find a man like coronel Brandon as Alan Rickman
This movie n Colonel Brandon's character was the first time I fell in love with Alan Rickman 😍❤ RIP you sweet sweet soul..we miss you.... always! ❤
Alan Rickman is the most underrated jane austen dreamboat
I think Colonel Brandon fell in love with Marianne because she reminded him of the woman he loved and lost when he was young.
Yes!
Exactly
And didn't want to see her ruins either
That voice...oh my! Whispering in one's ear in intimate moments would be enough to undo me!!!💖
Alan Rickman as Colonel Brandon and Matthew Macfadyen as Darcy are all I need in life
How dare you!! Colin Firth is the ONLY Mr. Darcy!!
@caedmonnoeske3931 Nah. People can have different preferences, bruh. Calm down. 🙂 Personally, I like several Darcys.
Dear, dear Colonel. Forever loved, forever mourned.
I’m so conflicted. I saw Alan Rickman first as the Sheriff of Nottingham and didn’t like his character but seeing him as Colonel Brandon is making me swoon-
The immortal Alan Rickman
ALAN RICKMAN (1946-2016) BEST PERSON EVER, WE WILL MISS YOU , THANKS FOR THAT MARVELOUS INTERPRETATION OF COLONEL BRANDON, R.I.P

I am always sad to hear when a notable actor/actress dies...but when my husband told me that Alan Rickman had passed, I burst into tears. There will never be a Colonel Brandon that will come up to his performance. I hope that he is giving pleasure to others on the Great Stage in the Sky....au revoir, mon ami.
I wish to keep hearing his voice. Alan you are missed.

The thing that always amuses me is, Emma Thompson snatched up Willoughby in real life and is still with him!

'..For whatsoever from one place doth fall, is with the tide unto an other brought: for there is nothing lost, that may be found, if sought..' Alan Rickman's reciting of this poem's extract has made me love the actor in anything he's done, opened doors to a world of understanding and love for poetry, as well as offered the best instruction to understanding the meaning of those exact words - that kind of living.

I didn’t read the book..but I was REALLY hoping that Colonel Brandon would marry Emma’s character. I was actually surprised. Oh well...can always dream. Truly, Madly
+Helen Eschenbacher You can see the attraction between Alan Rickman and Emma Thompson's characters--which is not supposed to be there, they were supposed to be romantically involved with different characters--but they are always looking at each other's mouths and giving off "the vibe", as if they were a couple. I wanted Brandon to marry Elinor, too!!! Although Col. Brandon and Marianne make a lovely couple. I just watched "Sense And Sensibility" again last night, and I made it through without crying.
@@kimashworth5391 they don't show the artistic side of the Colonel, but they mention it, and he apparently always loved a headstrong bubblier woman, as was Eliza and as was Marianne, even if it seems that Marianne mellowed after her illness.
Yes, Brandon and Eleanor saw each other when they were both invisible. I know Edward and Eleanor did too, but with Brandon ("Nooo, I must awaaay") she might find freedom from being parentified. Brandon respected Marianne's need for personal space when she lost Willoughby, but by further accepting rejection from someone who had never showed an interest in him Brandon could make fans re-think the love songs we hear on the radio. With a new character introduced Marianne could still be her natural little self without taking liberties like Willoughby and without transforming into her sister so she could reciprocate Brandon's feelings for her.
@@kimashworth5391 And Greg Wise who played Willoughby character was married to Emma Thompson-in fact, they are still married now-2021.

Snape, The Minister, Umbridge and Trelawney in one movie. A blessing 😭🤚
You forgot the nurse Poppy Pomfrey in HP-Gemma Jones (Mrs. Dashwood character) played her also. And the actress who played Mrs. Jennings also played the original fat woman portrait later played by Dawn French.
This character had my heart the moment he was introduced. Willoughby is just a young, spoiled, naive fop. Brandon is a true gentlemen that was forged by his suffering into the perfect man.
I Love you Alan forever!
