Fun fact about No Country for Old Men, the kid who gives Sugàr his shirt so he can sling his arm after the crash is the same actor who would go on to voice Jack Marston in RDR 1.
The Train Robbery mission, where you steal the oil wagon is a tribute to the scene from The Assasination of Jesse James. The cutscene of Arthur stopping the train.
The moment i heard the name Plainview i immediately recall of the settlement of the same name in rdr1, both bear striking resemblance being oil fields in the desert, a very cool reference that the developers made.
Really good video and analysis. Well done. 2007 was a great year. These three, Michael Clayton, Eastern Promises, The Lookout, Sunshine... the list goes on and on. Really good job.
Didn't expect such a masterful video essay from what I thought to be a rdr2 CZcamsr, but it's great and you have some real talent. You should make more of this kind of content. Overall fucking amazing video and the intro was peak.
Thank u for an amazing video essay, please make more long form analysis! i was already subscribed for your RDR2 content and was surprised to see who u were when i checked to see what channel this was lol. great shit

the assassination of jesse james is CRIMINALLY underrated so glad that the rdr2 writers are men of culture and were heavily inspired by this masterpiece
I'd say the reason the Ford movie didn't get more traction is because it starts so slow. A lot of people won't make it past the first 20 minutes honestly.
Hey man, I loved this video, here's a review trying to help you into your journey: Long videos: I have no problem with long videos, but CZcams might have, I've seen a lot of CZcamsrs complaining that CZcams screws the reach of the video because of the runtime, to get around this you could release videos 20 minutes long, enough to briefly cover a movie and it won't take you so long to release it. This video for example could be divided in 3 and put in a 2007 playlist. I know it sucks to do this, I love long videos, but it might be the only way to get around this, if you want to meet the constant content plus great quality ideals. This is better than most video essays: 99% of reviews, analysis or video essays are pretentious, with cringe "I'm so edge guys" music, and an incredibly cliché script, different channels all saying the same thing, thinking they're different, but you seem down to earth, joking and not taking yourself serious sometimes, this keeps the audience close and the video lighthearted. For me the highlights of the video were when you were joking and simultaneously explaining these movies because it didn't feeI like you were reading a script, but that's just my taste. No Country for Old Men: While I agree that Llewelyn Moss (the protagonist of the movie) is very capable and badass, he was deconstructed too, I don't think he was loyal to his wife by his interaction with the woman he was talking to before his death, and he seemed morally grey, not exactly the cliché cowboy. English is not my first language, I tried to put the same effort in this review as you did in your video, that's why it's so long. These are just opinions and suggestions, ♥️.
I understand that the low viewcount this video reached compared to your RDR2 stuff might be discouraging, but I would love to see more content like this from you. I mean, the low viewcount might come from the fact that this is predominantly an RDR2 channel, and most of your subscribers don't really care about a movie video essay, it might come from just how much more of a popular topic RDR2 is compared to neo-westerns or hell, it might just be that not that many people have seen all 3 of these movies, I know I held off on watching it until I saw The Assassination of Jesse James by the Murderous Tedium of Having To Type Out That Whole Title Every Time You Talk About This Movie, but it certainly wasn't for a lack of quality. Hell on the note of what your audience expects from you, maybe if you start diversifying the type of videos you make, sprinkling video essays like this alongside the usual stuff, you'll gain a new audience that watches you specifically for them. And I'd be one of the first among them.
Like the sheriff in no country for old men I often find myself longing for the "simpler" times of the past and I am always reminded that the world and its complexity have and will always be there in some form or another.
@@Scuttlerofwhimsey no more like the 1870s through the 1910s when the West was still being settled and civilization was expanding and the 1960s through to the 1990s between civil rights muscle cars and the music it was a time to be alive

Gregorio Cortez, los capas blancos, there are some great plays about Hispanic resistance to Anglo colonialism in the west that would make great neo westerns. Hell even a movie on the Pueblo revolt against Hispanic colonialism would be amazing.
It is a setting that should be explored more! I can recall duck, you sucker! And the wild bunch but they both follow white protagonists for the most part
I kinda hate the term Neo-western, because they are simply the next step in the evolution of westerns. A lot of the black and white themed westens pre Spaghetti western era had similar themes, just in subdued tones. For instance, Magnificent Seven (The Original) had great complexity, as the innocent townsfolk enlist 7 gunslinging murderers to help fight off other bad guys, You get to see the internal and external conflicts of the gunslingers as they try to deal with their own traumas and make sense of the morality of their lives. It showed the heroes not as cowboys fighting for justice to save America, but as a dark hardened killers all fighting for different reasons, some more selfish than others. There are some movies especially from Sergio Corbuchi that try to subvert the western in every conceivable way, but most westerns, from Clint Eastwood's divine retribution quadrilogy, to the spaghetti flicks, to the modern remakes and retakes, are all just the natural progression of the storytelling of the most explored genres in American entertainment.
