Home Alone is the Best . I really enjoyed it back in the days
Me and my family still watch it every year. I'm 20 and I'm the youngest in the family

Home alone is my second fav. My fav is elf.
I’m between Polar Express and Home Alone
Yeah, it’s just so christmasy
I love "It's a wonderful life", watch it almost every Christmas, it reminds us of the impact one person have on others, even if that person lived a fairly ordinary life.
Yes definitely a great movie with great writing and acting and excellent stars.
Home Alone has always been my favorite and my family’s
Yes me too
Hard to beat that one ;)

The incredible thing about It's a Wonderful Life is that it is not merely a good Christmas movie, but one of the best movies ever made. Whereas other movies are about Christmas itself (or some BS theme like "Santa is real" or "Christmas spirit"), It's a Wonderful Life merely uses the holiday season as a sentimental setting for a story that would be just as excellent at any other time of the year.

The Polar Express is just perfectly eerie and stunningly animated.
Am I the only one who isn’t in love with that movie ?
@@BCSBB its a literal horror film
Can’t believe it’s not on this list
My all time favorite Christmas movie is "It's a wonderful life." I watch it every Christmas.
Amen. It's hard not to cry at the end.
I agree. I tear up everytime at that and of course the song at the end. I almost have to watch it alone because I can be a mess sometimes once it's over.
+Falcon1 Same with me, and I am NOT a crier.
To those asking Where The F*&^ is Die Hard? Y'all know we're quite crazy and maniacal about criteria and what not. So with Die Hard, it's not really a "classic" Christmas flick. It's an action movie set during Christmas (arguably the best non XMAS movie set during XMAS) and we just felt that was for another list, say next year. It's a badass movie, but let's face it, had we put that then we could have added another couple of movies and then some of the classics would've been omitted.
That said, happy holidays folks - we won't be missing a beat with 2 clips (3 on XMAS ;) every day... so you can love and hate us like it's business as usual!
Alrighty, thanks for a response. Maybe do a "Top 10 Worst Christmas Movies" next? and if so, where will Silent Night, Deadly night be on the list?
Dammit Rebecca! The second I saw the list I knew I would get to say Die Hard, but noooooo you couldn't let me do it! It's fine though, Merry Christmas WatchMojo!
I echo the above, i thought "where is die hard!"
When ever i get asked what my fave xmas film is, that is it.. and sort of ghostbusters...ish.. well .. kinda happens around then
So wait...Die Hard, a good film, doesn't qualify as a Christmas "classic" and yet that pile of shit that is Elf does? Bullshit. Massive piles of bullshit.
No christmas is christmas without Die Hard. Even baby jesus watched dat...
I watched it's a wonderful life for the first time last Christmas loved it.

I'm surprised the Polar Express wasn't on this list; that's an instant classic in my book :)
Ikr one of my favs
polar express should have been 10 instead of the grinch.
Kcomix heeelllllllll no yes it should be top 10 but it will never compare to the grinch who stole Christmas
I'm also surprised it wasn't in there anywhere but the movie is not very good. The book, however, is so magical and is my own Christmas tradition ever Christmas eve with my family.
Same. I was hoping for it to be in honorable mentions. But OH WHALE
White Christmas with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye is a definite classic too!
Should have been at least an honorable mention.
I completely agree it’s one of my favorites!

either you are born in 1960s or you are pretentious, having mostly old movies and not having some modern classics. like, no Home Alone?
This woman’s defo a happy mother with 3 kids, no home alone? Daft.
National lampoons Christmas vacation is the best Christmas classic ever created in my opinion
Eugene Tackleberry I agree 100 percent .... National Lampoon's Christmas vacation .... Best holiday movie ever
Eugene Tackleberry thank fuck, the voice of fucking reason. Love you
Hell yes it is!
I love it. Has me in tears of laughter every single time absolute classic.
A christmas staple in my family.
That scene where George is praying to come back...always give me goosebumps, but I love every nanosecond of it. It's a Wonderful Life will always be my favorite movie.
I noticed when George called on God,he got quicker results than when he just called Clarence.
My favorite Christmas movie is A Christmas Story. We watch it every year at my house. It's just so good and it still holds up today.
For me Home alone and National lampoons vacation are a "must" christmas classics
My two favs too!
To all below: it's a wonderful life is an amazing movie, and all those complaining have CLEARLY never seen it
+TheBookWorm1718 couldn't agree more
+bandofbrothers2025 Agreed! It's tradition to watch it while we trim the tree in our house every year. I don't know how anyone could say it's a "one and done" movie. With that said, I watch most of the movies on this list every year so I'm sure everyone has their favorite on the list and their least favorite (like the Grinch movie for me).
Yes! I was named Bailey bc of George Bailey.. That's how much this movie means to my family and me haha
+Bailey Gowans you are officially badass as of now
Yeah, I watched it & I felt the same way And I don’t know if this is important to you, but I also don’t like the fact that he was mean to a school teacher and he never even bothered to apologize.
Charlie Brown Christmas should've been an honorable mention.
ProfanityMan 420 it was a Christmas television program. This is for films released in theaters.
Hark the Herald angels sing
@Alien Jones Savage That’s the Christmas spirit!😁
@Alien Jones Savage Also why do you take your business spiting hatred towards a comment that is 3 years old? I may not be culturally inclined as everybody else, but I wouldn’t dare bat an eye if I held some sort of intellectual advantage over somebody that didn’t know about something. You sir did not pass the vibe check, enjoy your holidays🖐
I also like the one where Peppermint Patty played a sheep in the Christmas play. (Oddly enough, the sheep looked like Snoopy's brother Olaf)
A christmas Carol, The polar Express , Santa paws ,Arthur Christmas , Frosty the snowman, Rudolf 😭😭😭
Miguel Maravilla did u really just say Santa Paws?
Noobmaster 69 haha
They didnlt get enough votesd to even make the Honorable Mentions list...theat's where.
Feckin Santa paws? Feck off!
My dad’s favorite was always Its A Wonderful Life. In the movie, there was a tree with a sign that said “Welcome to Bailey Park”. And since we share the surname of the protagonist George Bailey, my dad had a small version of that tree as part of his miniature Christmas village. Can’t wait to help him set it up again 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I actually liked the honorable mentions more than half the list. The Muppet Christmas Carol is my personal favorite and I watch it every year.

Yes! That's my all time favorite too.
Yes its right up there for me too!
It's my favorite too. And I've seen literally every Christmas Carol they've made bc my mom was obsessed it's by far and away better than scrooged. Or a fucking Christmas story for that matter, and yet those two beat out the muppets. Mojo sucks
I love it's a wonderful life, it's my favorite Holliday movie, my family and I always watch it on Christmas Eve before we go to bed!
Same here.
Here here!
My favorite also!
My favorites have always been Home Alone, Home Alone 2, Christmas with the Kranks, How the Grinch Stole Christmas (Jim Carrey version) and A Christmas Story.

Agree with "It's a Wonderful Life." My second: "Love Actually"
I remember watching "It's a Wonderful Life" in every single channel in television every christmas and it never gets old! A+

Andrew Ma here’s your chance
It's my favorite movie, so I couldn't agree more.

Do yourself a favor, please do not watch the colorized version. I think it takes away from the nostalgia. This is my favorite Christmas movie. They don't make em like Jimmy Stewart anymore. Merry Christmas to you.
So glad Its A Wonderful Life came first! It truly is a masterpiece!
My father used to watch it every Thanksgiving day when he was younger and we continue that tradition to this day. I hope to do the same with my own family in the future
In my opinion, I would have reversed numbers #1 and #2. I like It's A Wonderful Life, but I can't quite get into it, I can seem to get into it right when Clarence arrives. Now, A Christmas Story, I've watched a dozen times and can quote majority of the movie, it never gets old!!!
Hi you wouldn't believe me if I told you that this movie bombed at the box office when it first came out in fact it was so bad that even renew its copyright in the 1970s
I knew about that, in fact I didn't even know till just a few weeks ago when I took a quiz and got it wrong. The question was True or false, "It's A Wonderful Life" was a flop at the box office, and I answered with false and then there were mentions of how bad it was.
Hi. exept it is not a masterpiece at all, more like the opposite. it was a flop, so it was cheap for tv to play over and over again, its like a puff daddy song at first it sucks but after you hear it on the radio 3x a day it gets in your head, 2 months later you been brainwashed to think is good.
I agree with this list wholeheartedly with one exception: the 1951 version of Scrooge, with Alistair Sim, was far superior to the 1938 version. Dicken's granddaughter was on the set as a technical advisor and so they captured his evolved story more completely than any other version. Plus, Sim was remarkable and is considered to be the best Scrooge of any player. If you have not seen it yet, you should try to see it this Christmas season.
Anyone here at Christmas 2018?
Yeaa i am trying to find good movies
I saw on downtown abby theme song
Just watched It's a Wonderful Life for the first time and the movie actually made me cry at the end. I was as surprised as George Bailey.
Where is the polar express?
Not as well-known. Good, but not fantastic.
Mrgahoolefan bull. It’s definitely top 10 material
so true
I personally did not care for The Polar Express much because I thought the plot was dumb, but I do think the movie has a good heart
Ikr!!!

Christmas is probably the major popular holiday in movies. My favorites are It's a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Carol (either animated, live action or with the Muppets), A Christmas Story, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, Home Alone, Miracle on 34th Street, the Polar Express and many original classics but unfortunately, Hallmark and Lifetime put lovely dovey Christmas crap. This list is my favorite. Thanks, WatchMojo. 🎄🎅⛄
It's A Wonderful Life is my favourite.
God bless us everyone!
+Johnno9989 I love it, but I knew all along it would be No.1 on this countdown. Not that it doesn't deserve to be, just predictable, is all.
Its not a wonderful life. Its an illusion. No such thing. Man fights man, man fights woman, terrorists attacks, natural disasters, diseases, money problems, religion and race problems, loss of one or more senses at young or old age, man theres so much issues that breathing is the only good thing.
Adam Samuel what the fridge have you been smoking?

I don't like that movie that much but it should at least been an honorable mention because it's such an iconic movie!
yeah where's polar express? it wasn't even in honorable mentions
+OctoberLandon How about Jack Frost?
+OctoberLandon agrees
+Ian Anderson Definitely, It's A Wonderful Life #1
All great picks. A much unknown movie is called "It Happened on 5th Avenue."

Home alone number 1? See you understand ;)
The Grinch 018 over the early 2000s one 🤔 ... This comment is canceled
Home Alone should have been #2 or #3, but other than that good list .
Here's my list:
10. How the Grinch stole Christmas
9. Batman Returns
8. A Christmas Carol
7. Elf
6. The Polar Express
5. Miracle on 34th Street
4. Home Alone
3. The Nightmare before Christmas
2. Die hard

Lazy Kitten Studios no Christmas story?
Die hard isn't an Christmas movie.
Lazy Kitten Studios ok where the fuck in Christmas vacation
Anoti it is, nothing says Christmas like killing terrorists
Jason Lee you did not just put Batman Returns on there
I have watched this movie every year for the past fifty year's. Worn out every tape every, DVD I have owned. How much this film gives to the meaning of life everyone of us has so much meaning. Yes it will remain number one to me as long as I live. It''s a wonderful life has always been top's with myself and my family.
I feel that Ernest Saves Christmas should have made the list, not just been an honorable mention. I've seen it so many times & never get tired of it. Plus, my father loved it too.
The Polar Express is my #1 forever
Same. That should be #1
Reuben Lodge
Can't believe that wasn't on the list.

Lampoons Christmas Vacation is one for me. Good list!
Totally agree, I’ve Memorized every single line from every one of those movies, it’s not Christmas without them!
I love how the Grinch stole Christmas
I think The Polar Express should be here, I've watched it every year my whole life, heh.

How dare ELF or Home Alone not be #1
Adam B. I just watched it’s a wonderful life for the first time today and despite loving those movies along with Christmas story, it’s a wonderful life is easily 1. That movie was incredible
Both good movies but do you really think they’re better than It’s a Wonderful Life and Christmas Story? No way
They should do Top Ten versions of "A Christmas Carol/Scrooge"
Nancy O'Malley I prefer the Black and white version and the animated one with Jim Carey

+TheCrazyNintendoMan ! Rewatched Christmas story and home alone. Home alone wins easily.

No home alone is crap compared to ACS
Hey watchmojo, just wondering, the honorable mentions, are they for number one or just for the list in general?
Great question, sometimes it's 11-15 ranks. Other times it's en entry that may have been upvoted on our suggestion page but once we dove into the research realized simply didn't merit being a top 10. And yes, sometimes it's pertaining to something that didn't make it due to criteria but still needed to be mentioned. So, it's a mix... but people seem to love it. We're flirting with the idea of adding "Dishonorable mentions"... ;)
while i do like the honorable mentions, i feel a dishonorable mentions would be as hurtful to people who love that movie than a dick slap full of spikes
+WatchMojo.com do life and bio of iggy azalea u want more bio by females and R&B groups too
steve seltz
Not complaining, it's a good list, agree with many of the movies you chose, but I can't imagine Christmas without these too : The Holiday, Polar Express, Just friends, All I want for Christmas, This Christmas, The family Stone. There's so many other genre movies set during Christmas, but in some of them Christmas spirit and what not stands out as most important, changes everything up.
I agree with everything except the 1938 version if a Christmas Carol. The 1951 Alistair Sim version is the best!
who is here in the middle of the year? Am I the only one that listens to christmas music in spring?haahaha
Me toooo
I usually listen to Xmas music in September but Corona brought me here early😂
Brr
I already knew what number one was before I even saw this video. It's a wonderful life is indeed one of the all time greats
Maybe in usa the favorite movie is a wonderful life but on the whole world its home alone
Since it's almost October, I'm festive as hell right now
The reason "Its a Wonderful Life" is so good is that Stuart (George Bailey) had just fought in the war and was going through PTSD. All the grief you see on his face is real. He channeled it into this performance that obviously still has people talking to this day. (My wife and I are Nightmare before Christmas fans. And Christmas Vacation should be higher up.
Nov. 2019 love Christmas classic film movies.
Yess
You could probably do a list on the best versions of a Christmas Carol
You only need the 1938 version, and Scrooged is a good change of pace!
Really solid list. I would rearrange some choices but every film mentioned deserves to be here.
it's a wonderful life i watch it every year on christmas night.
I love “It’s a Wonderful Life”
How is die Hard not on here, it is easily one of the greatest christmas movies of all time.
die hard is a great movie but not a christmas movie.
jhue73 look it up
JJGamingMaster I agreed..
jhue73 the story is during Christmas Eve so it should be categories as a Christmas movie.. including Die Hard 2..
JJGamingMaster not a Christmas movie
A Christmas Carol's 1951 version was the best. Also, The Bishop's Wife is sadly missing. Also, Christmas In Connecticut and Holiday Inn.
Christmas carol jim carey 2009
Where is White Christmas? That one is definitely my favorite!
Where is the polar express
Yeah, it was 10 times better than their picks for 8, 9, and 10.
+Eagle Falonhawk the hell it is
Ryleigh Paige The Grinch sucks and so does Santa Claus. I haven't seen Scrooged in a while, but from what I remember it was pretty much the movie embodiment of a ballsack.
+Eagle Falonhawk A fat troll is fat.
+Jay First Santa Claus was part of my childhood too, but unfortunately I grew up. Well kind of.
Just watched Its A wonderful Life,,, I'm crying
Can we take a moment to appreciate that Katherine O’Hara was not just in one of the most loved Christmas movies but in one of the greatest Halloween movies as well!!!
I mean no one besides a group of peanuts & a dog have achieved that!
Yes I love how the Grinch stole Christmas
The polar express didn't make it on their list? Come on!! I woulda put that as my number 2 or 3.
I'd put it on a list of New Classic Christmas Movies, Arthur Christmas being on there too!
IKR :D
Zechariah Frink Not a classic.
As a movie, if you just look at it through a purely filmmaking view, then it's not that great. Polar Express is great for other reasons, for the feelings it brings out of people and for the feeling of magic. That's just for me.
Jingle All The Way didn't make the list ?Come on it's Turbo Man ..... and Booster !!!
RockDJ7 Thats my favourite Christmas film!
I have a turboman
I just watched that movie, should have been on the list!
Its my favorite. Remember the Pumpkin Patch kids crisis!
Five years later and this list still speaks the truth
Elf will, always be a favorite along with the Grinch and home alone.
Home alone is amazing
How is the Polar Express not on this list?
Guy Vitacco honestly

Put The Muppet Christmas Carol on this list.
The Muppet Fan What About Die Hard? the first one the Plot is during Christmas Eve..
We always watch Just Friends and whilst not explicitly a holiday film its set at Xmas, has snow and is still funny 13 years later!!!
Thank you for the list

1.Elf
Polar Express
Ikr it's the goat
L. M. Kenney Laing myat aung
L. M. Kenney yaaas I was looking for my squad 🚃🚋
I still love "Ernest Saves Christmas". There's just something both funny and adorable, about Ernest P. Worrell being tasked with helping Santa Claus find a replacement just days before his yearly sleigh ride.
I might have liked Jim Varney is commercials, etc. but a little bit of Ernest goes a long way,KnowhatImean?
I haven't seen them all but for me the 1984 "Christmas Carol" adaptation with George Scott is the best one!
My top 5 Christmas movies
#1: A Christmas Story
#2: Home Alone 1
#3 Elf
#4 Charlie Brown Christmas
#5 Santa Clause
(I also like Christmas With The Kranks)
What's your top 5 favorite Christmas movies?
My dad makes us watch “National Lampoons Christmas Vacation” every....single...YEAR!!!
Emma Ray is that a complaint?
No
A Christmas story... ugh! I’ve seen this movie like 4 times and each time I don’t understand why people love this movie so much.
You and me both!
I have on DVD The Christmas Carol 1938. It is well done and worth watching during the Christmas season.
