Masterpiece of a movie. Perfect cinematography, directing, acting and soundtrack. I somehow feel a spiritual connection to this film. RIP Chris, you were truly one of a kind.
This movie came to my life when I was the most anxious and scared because of my exams in College. As an Indian, I had a lot of pressure to perform well in my exams, get a good job and blah blah. Life has never been the same after this movie. I cried my eyes out after watching it and suddenly felt free like everything seemed so insignificant. It changed my priorities for good and I am thankful to everybody associated with this movie
I left UK April 2019 and fit my life into a backpack. It's everything I own in the World... Best thing I ever done. I work as I travel and I've never been happier. People ask me if I'm married, kids etc which is their first response. NO IM NOT AND NO I DON'T!! But I'm happy... Hopefully my journey won't end in such sadness.
I read this book yesterday and unable to control my tears since.I know that I found this piece too late but I am glad that atleast I did.Every single thing around me reminds me of him in some way or the other and there I lay in pain..Pain unable to find words.. A part of me wants to save him and the other is happy for him.A part of me wants to feel what he felt when he breath his last and the other wants to run away from everything that reminds of him. Tried talking to people explaining to what extent I am moved by him but in vain , so this comment. I know one thing for sure that I am going to remember Chris McCandless as " the boy who lived ".
After cleaning toilets, delivering pizzas, working hard jobs for years I left everything behind and start my trip. Started at 15/4/2019, I dont know what day is since I started , afer the year I stopped counting the days. This night found me on a hammock in a forest of one German city, today is 29/8/2020. It's raining all day, and it will for the next week. This time I managed to not get wet, so I will sleep good tonight . My trip has 3 days left. I got an apartment now. I'm getting in at 1/9. I'm starting the routine again. Will I be able after hitchhiking and bicycle traveling for 1.5 years 3 contents? Will I be able to be fixed in one place, to follow the rules, to do what they say as a Soul of the World now If anyone is wandering if they should start. I will say yes. But I don't kknowwhat will happen if you go back.
A song that makes you question everything about life, a gem that enters your soul and never leaves. Society is programmed slavery! Chris knew that and hated it the hypocrisy and greed makes us all slaves this song the meaning sets us free!
Society is not programmed slavery. Society is all of us. And we are not perfect. We have a very shitty, destructive side to us. All of us. Maybe Chris looked outside too much, and he needed to direct his sight inwards. That's why he did what he did, and the lesson he left us: "Happiness is only real, when shared". Lessons that last always have a high price.
The message in this song is so profound When we disconnect from all the labels and things were told "will make us happy" You begin a deep journey for your own happiness and see that materialism is meaningless. depth, knowledge, wisdom, nature and the cycles of life are what matters
This film touched me deeply and made me question so many things In my own life. True happiness comes from not what you want but what you have. A must watch film just once in your life.. Peace x
I just want to go home back north in my spirit country , I've waited 25 years to go home and now as I sit here ,to actually know that I'll be home by Christmas and with my daughter, that's all that matters and more relief than I can put into words , home is where our heart is , not always where we must be
In this life we are not possessors of anything. Not even the body we have. We arrive and leave without material possession, but be sure that our soul will absorb everything for what has passed.
My exam result had just come.I was very much depressed with my abilities, seemed to me like I should stop dreaming and just go with the life.I watched this movie last SUMMER. Somehow watching this movie and listening to this particular song I came to consciousness and realized that it's just another phase of the life.just let it pass and give your best shot next year.. whose results are yet to come.. the point is. This movie made me realize that I can be happy with very small things and smile even when I have nothing to smile for. I can be happy just because I'm human.. that encouraged me immensely. Now when I listen to this song I get the nostalgia of last summer when I decided to quit. And it feels great that I tried and didn't quit.
Being human is... incredible. Nostalgia, associations, gratitude, emotion... All we can experience. It's the reality we are experiencing, this world were able to enjoy. This movie shows it quite perfectly.
I’m facing failing out of medical school. Spent 8 years to get here and sacrificed everything to face dismissal over getting a 68 in one course. Don’t give up brother
Sean Penn asked his friend Eddie Vedder to write the music for this movie. They were both on Charlie Rose (shower trick for short). One of the great works of our time, this movie is.
I lost my Chocolate about 2 hours before due to jaundice, a 3 months old puppy. She’s given me and my wife nothing, but only true love. She fought hard, never seen anyone that fighting that strong. I was a foreign exchange student when I first watched Into The Wild movie and listened to this song. Coincidentally, I was also living in Alaska by the time lol. That song has an incredible power on me. It kinda makes me remember every moment I had in Anchorage and also makes me think about life and how I can impact the world (present and future), it just defines me a lot... Thanks Eddie for this masterpiece!!!
Omg. I was an foreign exchange student in Anchorage as well, and that was also where i got to know Into The Wild. It made me love Alaska even more, and i even went to Healy to go on the Stampede Trail. It was like being there myself. Never been more calm than when I lived in Alaska.
I am so happy that i could visit the bus in august 2015, to bad it is now in a museum. The walk from the movie bus to the original bus was amazing. I love the Stampede trail
I fell sick after watching this movie "into the wild " and recovered after a week. And then i turned myself into a full-time traveller and one of Christopher McCandless disciples. Now im a traveller, the world is my house and the sky is my roof, where i hang my hat is my home, and all the people are my family.. If this adventurous life attracts you then get out of your home savour the real beuty of the world by taking only memories and leaving only footprints... ❤❤🙏🙏

@1969ChargerRTSE his life is talked about, so no, he didn't win no stupid prizes. He is remembered, far greater a prize than others have won. Don't judge, don't front.
@1969ChargerRTSE yeah cause someone born in a rich family has the option.. do you know how stupid you sound, singling him out for being born around wealth?
I used to take my dog and just go for hours and hours. I used to study in the woods, no one around, screaming and laughing all you want. Lying on the ground, arms wide open and watching the birds and the trees. Love it 😍
This is my dream for 6 years and i am nearly 18 years old. I will do it soon. What a great that to can be on roads by camping. That's freedom itself. Discover New people, cultures, places. You and roads...
I was getting into living out my van and traveling the continent for a few years, then I heard of into the wild and I don't know if I'll ever stop going at this point. This movie is so inspiring!
I did a bunch of that type of Chis McCandless stuff. It is amazing. But you do, really, really, really have to know what you are doing. I had encounters with grizzlies in Glacier and rattlers in the Badlands. If you don't know what you are doing, you could wind up in serious trouble or dead. So, you just have to be smart, patient and prep. Read and learn. Study. Do small hikes, and slowly build up. Do physical training. Get in serious physical shape so you can handle whatever comes. If you work it all that way, you can have amazing experiences and still be safe.
Yes, when one gives unconditionally without any expectation of getting anything in return then that is one who is truly happy to share. Such an individual understands Absolute [Spiritual Inner Peace] Happiness which is opposite of relative [material desires] happiness which is always fleeting.
An interesting quote from his journal, but also the movie and the book - and his journal too - don't dismiss the power of solitude for its own sake as well. I think the movie was clever to have a somewhat ambiguous ending. He didn't see all the riches that were right before his eyes, but he also flourished in the wilderness for awhile and even before his death had found some peace.
Vanessa l Never really knew him, I wasn't in high school yet. My brother said something about him once or twice (we are 10 years apart) nothing bad though.

Every fucking time I hear this song, I need to think of my friend, who crashed and passed away in 2016 at the age of 20. This song was among the last of the few we listened to together before she passed. It's every now and then I look up this song and have a proper cry. Not to sound melodramatic, but goddamn it, if there's a song that has meaning for me, this song would be it. Just needed to vent this :(
Amazing song and movie! Sad this young man died so young. I can definitely relate what he was talking about. We live in a world where possessions are ones number one priority, and we never have enough. Accumulating so much “stuff” that we need bigger garages, more sheds and renting storage buildings to house it all. Half the time you don’t even remember what’s in the boxes stored. Does owning so much materialistic items make you happier? No. There’s so much waste also. Ppl fill their plates at buffets to leave half and discard it. This young man in my opinion found happiness just being himself, one with nature and God. Kudos to him for finding the true meaning of life, not caring about impressing your neighbor but living in peace and harmony with oneself ❤️ May he Rest In Peace eternity in the arms of the lord❤️❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻✝️
Here to read the comments. All the beautiful people sharing their journey & how this movie changed their life❤. Hope I can live a life that satisfy my soul not as society wants . Thanks to Chris for sharing his journey & inspiring so many souls.
This man this movie and his story inspired me to travel and see this beautiful world for what it really is. In 5 weeks I leave the small world of my town for the first time to backpack Australia. Thank you Christopher. Liam (19)
Doesn't matter how you are happy. The main message of Chris is: happiness only real when shared, is not about leave your family or dont study. Is about do what you like, if you dream about making a family, do it. But dont ever think you Will be happy alone. Relationships are everything. Love my family, love my friends. This message is true in 2020 than ever.
No it is not. hippie movement ideas have been quite old by now. Really, like this song and like what it questions, but i'd never risk being eaten by a bear and such if it does not need to be like that. at the same time i do not give a fuck about prestige for prestige, and i consider money beneficial because it can make life more comfortable.
@@SPOOKUMS_ Depends how you look at it. Sure everyone dies, but unless you are living in a country with great health insurance, money can buy cures to illness for sure.
I like this guy and if ever possible, I will keep some flowers at his bus. Also will try to see his family. Movie was great with Eddie vedder’s magical songs. Cast was great too. But when you look at the reason of rejection of worldly life from Chris, was result of unhealthy relationships and shallow relationships he had in life. That made him give up everything and vanish to the anonymity and to the wilderness of the nature. In fact in all of us we have that human being who belonged to nature and want to go back to it infinitely. But our bond to the reality of this mystic material world makes any such efforts just escapism or foolishness. Even Chris felt some point of time what he did was not right, which is why he wrote “ happiness is only when shared” So let’s be practical, not to runaway from life.but the beauty of this movie is exposing shallow human life.!Chris was challenging all human norms we set for our life. That’s the reason we love him and he is still called as a hero, as I would love to believe. He shows us the meaninglessness of this materialistic world, but he had to pay a price with his precious life. Tribute to a legend, a hero who lives in our hearts forever.

Don't we all just wanna have a quiet life in nature, one with the energy that surrounds us. Once my daughters are grown up and have their own places I will move into the wild. That's where my path is, that's where my love is.
I am a 46 year old dad, husband, business owner, no real worries about anything serious, but Chris and his story hit me like no other has before, I knew about him long before the movie, read about the adventure and his death in an outdoor magazine and was amazed at how he dropped everything to basically do what he was driven too, his death was tragic and unintentional but his story was amazing and some day I will get to the magic bus and pay my respects to this awesome guy!! I haven't watched this movie yet. Someone recommended it to me after I told them how I wanted to leave everything and run away from society to some place. Yesterday night, after a long day at work, I had this intense moment with this song. I listened to this while smiling like crazy & uncontrollably crying at the same time. Feeling music is one of the best feelings.
I can't imagine how many hours I cried after watching this movie & listening to this song that whole night crying to sleep. I don't share my very favorite songs with everyone because it's close to my heart but I felt like I wanted to share this song hoping that you may enjoy it. "Winter Aid - The Wisp Sings"
oh, this movie got me through a really though day at work, just thinking to myself, if i just flip and can't stand this sh1t anymore, i'll just leave all of this and go live peacefully somewhere in the woods alone. hehe.
This movie, and kings of summer are two must sees if tour in that mood of running away they show you that family and connections to others are everything, my personal opinion to that philosophy is that its no necessary but the films get their point across non the les
Such an inspiring song, life and man! I’ve been thinking a lot about being more with nature for about 1.5 years, then someone just recommended me this film to watch. I’m not brave enough to do what he did, nor have the skills or courage to just pack up and move. My plans for the future do include more hikes, road trips, meditation and finding true happiness. Not the bullshit society tells us we need.

Life has never been the same after this movie. I cried my eyes out after watching it and suddenly felt free like everything seemed so insignificant.
It changed my priorities for good and I am thankful to everybody associated with this movie
Hope you’re ok!
I understand everything you said.
Sending you love ❤️🙏🏻
Same here brother. I am from pakistan and this masterpiece changed my thoughts as well.

Hope and Best wishes for you , Be happy.
May peace and happiness be found on youre journey.
I hope you don't forget the lesson in the end, "Happiness is real when shared".
I hope You are not lonely..

The best movie in my whole life... There is a eco in my mind for the last 10 years.
I understand.
I can understand....many are loat souls

Will I be able to be fixed in one place, to follow the rules, to do what they say as a Soul of the World now
If anyone is wandering if they should start. I will say yes. But I don't kknowwhat will happen if you go back.
im reading this and actually crying right now. you r doing a great thing. inspiring

A song that makes you question everything about life, a gem that enters your soul and never leaves.
Society is programmed slavery! Chris knew that and hated it the hypocrisy and greed makes us all slaves this song the meaning sets us free!
kuss geht raus. Thanks m8
The message in this song is so profound
When we disconnect from all the labels and things were told "will make us happy"
You begin a deep journey for your own happiness and see that materialism is meaningless.
depth, knowledge, wisdom, nature and the cycles of life are what matters
I absolutely love this story...very relatable...
Eddie and his voice just touches the heart. An exceptional man

I just want to go home back north in my spirit country , I've waited 25 years to go home and now as I sit here ,to actually know that I'll be home by Christmas and with my daughter, that's all that matters and more relief than I can put into words , home is where our heart is , not always where we must be
Gold.
Pure gold.

2022... Still, I watch this movie to escape from this greedy system... I hope, one day I will be able to escape it... ❤️
Sean Penn asked his friend Eddie Vedder to write the music for this movie. They were both on Charlie Rose (shower trick for short). One of the great works of our time, this movie is.
This particular song is written by Jerry Hannan. Nevertheless a great performance by mr Vedder.

How was Alaska ?

Did anyone ever just want to vanish into the forest even before knowing about Chris mccandless
Living in a small town in moutains, escaping to the deep forest every time i can, sometimes just for a walk, sometimes i just go somewhere for weeks

Happiness is only real when shared so thanks for sharing ☺
I agree. Sorta like if a tree falls in a forest and no one is there to hear it, did it really make a sound.
Yes, when one gives unconditionally without any expectation of getting anything in return then that is one who is truly happy to share. Such an individual understands Absolute [Spiritual Inner Peace] Happiness which is opposite of relative [material desires] happiness which is always fleeting.
Wow... Hav a Blessed a Heather🙂
Epicurus approves that...
Rebels find strength in solitude and not in circus.. forever fav song .

Just needed to vent this :(
Sorry to hear that, may she rest in peace.
She is with you, my friend.
You know this. Keep celebrating her💜

Still gives me goosebumps, and makes my feelings feel

2023, are you here?!
Yes
Doesn't matter how you are happy. The main message of Chris is: happiness only real when shared, is not about leave your family or dont study. Is about do what you like, if you dream about making a family, do it. But dont ever think you Will be happy alone. Relationships are everything. Love my family, love my friends. This message is true in 2020 than ever.
Yes, that was 100% his message!

Even Chris felt some point of time what he did was not right, which is why he wrote “ happiness is only when shared”
So let’s be practical, not to runaway from life.but the beauty of this movie is exposing shallow human life.!Chris was challenging all human norms we set for our life. That’s the reason we love him and he is still called as a hero, as I would love to believe.
He shows us the meaninglessness of this materialistic world, but he had to pay a price with his precious life.
Tribute to a legend, a hero who lives in our hearts forever.
