"Darkness descends" was a punch in the face when i was young, and still does. Heavier as fuck, dark atmosphere and breathless riffs. Nothing compares to this masterpiece.
It`s quite funny... in ALL Dark Angel clips there are comments like ´Gene is the best´ (what is a fact) and `the guy who`s singing is okay` ... after all this years nearly no one knows Ron`s name and wants Don Doty back.
I wish that their albums would get remastered and then re-released!!! It could be that my stereo system is shity, but I cant make out all the guitar parts, like one would be able to with a modern production... Yes, that old production add some atmosphere to the album, and some darkness to the songs. I love that, but you still can not deny the fact that a modern production would be so incredibly awesome for all of Dark Angel 's material.
DD is in a league of its own. The big 4 is just a marketing name for the most commercially successful bands. DD alone blows all their stuff out of the water.
Both released in 1986, Darkness Descends was every bit as good as Reign In Blood, yet didn't receive as much attention. Criminally overlooked, IMO.
