  • This week at MMR Todd and Dan tackle a battery relocation, killswitch install, and push button start install on our 2005 S197 Mustang GT. The battery relocation will help corner balance the car while also improving safety, which requires the killswitch install. We also chose to go to a pushstart after the car theft damaged the keyed ignition system. All in all this was a fun project and we love the end result.

    4 awg? No hot start issues with that? I used 1 awg. I even used 1 awg from my distribution block to the starter just to be sure i wouldn't have issues. There's a perfect ground solution right by your circuit breaker. you even have a bolt in the threaded hole I used.

      Haven't had any issues yet. We have not yet run in super hot conditions but we have done a couple events with many consecutive starts and haven't had any issues. Fingers crossed. I think people often err on the side of caution when it comes to these types of things but the kit we bought came with 4 awg cable so that's what we went with. You are right that there are many solid grounding locations in the rear that don't require you to run through a sheetmetal panel and we should have done that but we like how this turned out.

      @@morrismartinracing Oh, people go way overboard with 1/0, 2/0 or even 4/0. 4 awg is probably ok for a race car. for a street car i'd do 2 awg minimum and keep the ground as short as possible. I even added a second ground off the starter to the frame rail, but that's also overkill. You can't have too many grounds going to the motor imo. I think dodge chargers come stock with 4 awg or 2 awg wire to the trunk mounted battery.

    Do you have to ground the engine?

    • @morrismartinracing
      @morrismartinracing  Před rokem +1

      We did not change any of the grounding in the engine bay. We just took the negative end of the battery cable and ground it to the chassis.
