Didn’t we criticize China for using the facial recognition and now we are doing the same thing???😁😁😁
We've been doing the same thing. In most cases it's the pot calling the kettle black. Another example, the social credit system hulabaloo when the US already had an oppressive credit system for decades.
USAmerica is the God of psychological projection
In truth it can be said that (at least initially), based on overall global-national combined Identification & A.I. However, that's more controlled and random data/knowledge (for example: the full content of all the worldly encyclopedias and dictionaries) or even the daily media news is constantly added and updated within the global A.I. - Internet processes; thus, likely all true criminals & criminal activities will be realized and rightfully acted upon, regardless of someone's desires or even willful intent to destroy.
Yes! I noticed that also.
@@keith3946 Your right, the monetary credit system is actually far more oppressive and widespread than the social credit system, which mainly only applies to larger entities and is half assed at that. I wouldn't expect you to know that though.
That the legal system allows these companies to operate without any accountability is likely a GOAL!
It is, they all on the pay roll.

"The people who are creating these programs will create those programs according to their beliefs." Yeah absolutely and their belief is that everything bad is whites' fault, like since forever, every evil thing on the planet is the fault of whites and they beleive whites should be eradicated
This goes in hand with what Shuboff states in “The Age of Surveillance Capitalism” and what Michelle Alexander says in “The New Jim Crow” , this is the”progression” of the surveillance state

It seems we will need more people in the computer science field that are social justice prone and educated to see the injustice and correct the foundations of coding the AI will learn and grow from.
Well, here’s the thing…
If you watch and see Black social media we’ve focused on the wrong things.
While we watch the Shade room and reality TV THIS is what has been going on.
Instagram really affected my mental health as a Black individual and it is justified which is scary!
Most my friends without education are falling behind and the ones who aren’t feel isolated and are leaving lower tier Black social groups for more educated Black peer communities.
We need more smart Black scholars in the Computer Science field.
Hopefully this comment inspires.
So…no one. Because people who tend to go into robotics, computer science, software development, etc typically are smart, not woke racist leftists/liberals. So good luck finding those type of people in STEM.
@@drew9934 Yes, I agree! We don't have enough people in the black community to be in these spaces. However, unfortunately, if they are in these places they can be ignored or not given a chance to work on these types of projects. I worked in the graphic design/web design world and people don't want to work with people of color often or hire them. I don't want to stop people from trying to be in this industry but know it may be work to get in and to stay in.
@@HolisticandWhole Hey firstly thank you for responding back and speaking upon “your” experience.
I want to acknowledge and validate ALL of what you just said especially the fact Black people face discrimination within the creative/tech field because it is pretty true!
That said I often wonder how educated a lot us truly are coming into these fields?
We have to remember that being a “nerd” within the Black community wasn’t a popular thing till recently. And tech in itself has well, become “cool” only within the last decade?
Higher education needs to be a priority for us, and removing ourselves from emotional traumas as well.
If you’d like I’d love to speak deeper regarding this… lmk since I’m on other social media… I just don’t wanna put it out there 🤣 link me Sissss 🙏🏾

I just wish the black community would have picked this up sooner so more people of color (specifically black people) would have been in the AI industry.

If the computer gets it wrong. The award should be a million
I watched her documentary on Netflix a couple of years back. It was excellent.
Computers are tools that are subject to the data that is programmed into them. If the data is faulty or biased on the part of humans who use them, then computers are really going to be of no help. And is justice really served if computer surveillance can be altered or is unreasonably relied upon as the final arbiter of guilt or innocence by corrupt officials?
To mitigate bias in AI, it is crucial to have diverse and representative datasets, thoroughly evaluate and test the AI systems for potential biases, and employ techniques such as debiasing algorithms, transparency, and external auditing. Responsible development, rigorous testing, and ongoing monitoring are essential to ensure that AI systems are fair, unbiased, and respectful of human values.
How do you test an AI for potential biases? In order to measure for bias, you would first need to establish a norm for comparison. Therefore, your test of bias will perform according to your own established norms. So, what it amounts to is this: [I must ensure that your creation agrees with me.]
"...it is crucial to have diverse and representative..." PEOPLE to compare datasets; the types of white males that have overpopulated these industries have been shown to be unnervingly RACIST & SEXIST types that work on smug suppositions & presumptions & are easily upset by the presence of non-white co-workers.
Won't happen though. The same people that orchestrated the biases that this system runs on are the same people designing the AI tech to do the same jobs people should be doing.
If anything, AI will just allow for more effective biased government because there's more plausible deniability when you can put the blame off on a computer system.
@Jianju69 And they just struck down affirmative action, ensuring that diversity in the sciences will be limited to the ususal suspects
Objectivity is a learning curve but a reasonably simple parameter.
It's about self correction and assessment values and corresponding data like photo fingerprints this whole situation wouldn't have happened if that simple correlation was made.
Every single phone provides biometric access besides facial recognition and fingerprints.
Those are basic and essential so I don't understand how something to evidently avoidable could happen if Ai is as capable as is presumed.
Thanks to Amy goodman and her staff to inform us about what is happening in the USA and the rest of the world!🌎🌍🌏❤😂
Facial recognition practices, in their use, collection and dissemination of these data are Unconstitutional, violating the 4th Amendment (I think) securing the right to be secure in our persons, papers, etc. Clear privacy intrusion.
It’s already too far good. Anyone with facial recognition on their phone already willingly gave up that information. The phone companies can sell that data OR use it for AI development within their own companies.

You've totally lost any (not that you've had any in the last 20years) anonymity. :( You're in THE SYSTEM.
Great topic and well explained
I've been a machine learning researcher for over a decade and imho the real risk from these algorithms isn't some terminator doomsday scenario that organizations like openAI are condescendingly crying but instead the risk comes from people trusting these things when they probably shouldn't. More than one place has done an experiment with algorithmic policing and with a naive 1000ft view of the subject it actually sounds like a good idea but practically speaking it is a horrible idea right now. The datasets are extremely biased and therefore any algorithm will also be extremely biased. There is a saying in the field that is something like "junk in and junk out" and that refers to the data used to train the models. Even if we were somehow able to get perfect data the next problem is that with large models even the most informed researchers on the planet basically have no clue how any particular decision, or more generally any output, from such a model was formed. Just as an example, we would have virtually no way of knowing if the reason a model said to increase police presence in an area was due to biased policing in that area previously or if there was actually some real pattern outside of bias that the model was picking up on. Maybe some day we'll have models that can give us a chain of reasoning behind the decision so we can say for sure "this is not racist" or whatever and that it actually found a real pattern that will help decrease crime but right now that isn't a thing that is possible with current tech
NICE !! to see someone putting more than a one liner in the comments .. Thank you for putting them in the know a little .. The click and swipe world is here .. the fast food .. Its amazing .. yet .. the digital editing it real... understanding the technology takes time and that just not the in thing .. Studying is over rated in this new age .. OOOO well... more knowledge for us.. keep the HARD DRIVES alive..
That’s a very good idea, having a machine that can spell out its own calculation. Like explaining its decision for a more informed approach. This could make it more of the supplement to Justice than a crutch like most technology
@@soldierinsane2689 right, even if we created such an algo that could give us a reasoning chain, there still needs to be a human in the loop to say "hey something isn't right with this". That is really hard to even describe to someone let alone write code to reproduce. The output needs to be something people can understand and then there needs to actually be people who make the final decision using more than just that one input source.

Let's say out of nowhere in the 80's the prosecution of drug crimes became a top priority and, pretty much right after, the CIA allowed massive amounts of cocaine to flow into the country through Los Angeles and Florida. And this all happened as the manufacturing jobs responsible for the black rise in living standards started being shipped overseas. Then let's say police units across the country were incentivized to pursue drug users, which police used to pretty much disregard in favor of pursuing serious crimes. This happened and created a situation where black people were prosecuted for drug crimes at a way higher rate than white people, who we know were using and selling drugs at the same rate as black people.
An AI system fed this data will just think that if someone is black then the have a higher chance of being a drug offender or criminal when in reality this isn't true. Figured this wouldn't take that long before they blamed Racism on AI?
AI uses data from humans. It is accusing the data that AI uses of having Racist and sexist content. AI is like a computer. It’s a thing. She called it coded bias. Crap in; crap out
Thank you so much for showing us the bias in these AI systems. Racism is still alive in this country and in other places.
I get so annoyed when these automated cars drive around my city and get in front of me with dozens of cameras around it that’s recording my every move 😖I never consented being recorded in my everyday life 😤
Is it me or does it feel like the end is near ?!! At first when ppl was acting like technology was gonna be the end of us, i was one of those ppl that thought THOSE ppl were nuts but now being 35…everything from social interaction to cult/sheep mentality everythinng is a mess and everyones depressed !!! Ppl are either poor and have no hopenor rich but have everyone at their necks ….this is a bizarre time we are living in and its getting worse and worse 😅
Yeah, I agree. But I'm trying to hold up. I'm heartened by all the young people, including teenagers, who are intelligent and brave and working peacefully for their principles.
At this point, I want a meteorite to just obliterate us humans. We are the worst species to be ever created.
I just want to mention that I was stopped by police while shopping at a WalMart who stated that the system recognized me as someone with an arrest warrant. However, my drivers license and personal close look at my face by the cop led him to "let me go", he said. Incidentally, my demographic appearance is very "white".

Came for the Doomsday confirmation. Stayed because Joy is ridiculously beautiful.
What I find interesting is as time goes on, the evidence of racial bias being ingrained into every aspect of westernized civilization becomes more concrete with statistical and empirical data.
What's even more interesting is a fine line is being drawn between those that can accept that information and change versus those who flat out know the truth instead choosing all encompassing ignorance.
the stimulus payments were racial bias as white people don't have as many kids I can point out all sorts of bias does democracy now do a story on it no it's their agenda if you take two groups of people one group will be doing better in some areas then others
You're correct and a racist... Only Western Civilization is the least oppressive in the world... There are more slaves in Africa today than ever in the US... Learn your history and present, stop complaining and enjoy the ride..
@@david5544g Yes because treating everyone equally and judging them by their character and not skin tone is racist nowadays
@davidlagos5358 There are more slaves here in the States than during the Trans-Atlantic slave trade due to mass incarceration, the War on Drugs, red lining, racial profiling and a corrupt legal system where 80% of cases never even make it to trial. Not to mention our involvement in colonial destabilization of socialist and communist governments that created the issues you speak on outside of Westernized civilization.
Why don't you read more before you say silly things?
America was something like more than 80% white in 1964, conservative estimate, nowadays it's around 50%, and few exceptions aside the rest of the west is pretty much on the same path. And you have the guts to say that westernized civilization is racist... You know what? If there's racial bias injected in AI algorithms it's injected by the woke brigades, the extreme leftists, they're literally all over IT...
This is a bit of a strange title. "How AI is enabling racism". Is AI just working autonomously on its own or did someone program it and activate it? The title makes more sense if it reads, how AI is used to enable racism.
Its used as a cover. They will still practice it but will now say it wasn't their decision. There is no punishment for getting it wrong. Establishment wants this to happen and by assuring so-called "White" Americans the AIs are as racist as they are and not likely to negatively effect them they will receive little resistance to its implementation. In other words as long as its used against so-called "Black" people no problem. The first arrest was that of a so-called "Black" man. That reassures so-called "White" Americans there will be no fundamental change in their privileges of not suffering oppression.
Humans for centuries now, have not been able to overcome the racism issue. How on earth do we think we are smart enough for this AI revolution, if we can't handle the basics that as a species, we are multi-ethnic? Watching Mo Gawdat on the AI emergency, there will likely come a point whereby even the language of AI will be beyond our limited human comprehension. The singularity.
what a wonderful young person this is
But to relying on the worst president to do something about this crap is not going to happen. And Congress will do noting also
@@Carter-je9kb he's not great, but he's better than the last one. No one is relying on him, theyre pushing for his administration and congress to lead the charge and act. They would be advocating for this no matter the president.
Lastly, he may not be the best, but if you think he's the worst, you dont know our country's history. We have had unqualified presidents, slaveowning presidents, president who made it policy to kill and displace native Americans to give land to white people. The bar sadly, is set very low.
Thank you.

I think ethical ai is more likely than an ethical society

Thanks for addressing this issue.
They didn't do that at all. They deliberately obfuscated the fact that the fascists want to censor AI. It is irrelevant whether they call it sexism, 10374 different genders, family values, etc. It is all fascist censorship; and you fake liberals love it as long as it is done for your silly beliefs as opposed to the childish nonsense on the other side of the aisle. You have been bamboozled by paid liars.

The problem with AI tech race is that there is a prisoner's dilemma game theory at play here. Stalling & slowing AI research only works if everyone & all nations follow the agreement. Anyone who doesn't follow the agreement has a chance to accelerate ahead of the competition * cough china cough *
Who's proposing stalling research? This is about biases in models and applications in society. You can research AI without using it to arrest people based on racially-biased models. There are other concerns, like GHG emissions and water use that should be regulated for any compute workload, but other than that I don't think there's a compelling reason to stymie research. This isn't a terminator situation (no matter what Sam Altman and Elon Musk say).
A worthwhile and important issue and fight
Rock on my Sista!!
From my understanding AI CAN create bias and formulate new algorythms based on "self learning". Algoythms take what is already there and formulate outcomes based on known data points. This seems to be highly confusing when dissiminating this information. AI is a HUGE step up from Algorythms in potential concern, as the "self learning" AI may not be able to be controlled once it starts formulating its own "opinions" in the process of "self learning". This is my understanding...perhaps I am incorrect.
i wouldnt call this "bias"
You so right especially when you are black ai is to targeted black people...
