    Excellent upgrades. Look forward to seeing completed unit, and hear results. I used a 1997 Trans Am rear end complete R&R for my upgrade on 1983 Camaro, super improvement! Thanks for great vids.

      The guy who rebuilt my axle did it wrong so it lunched a pinion bearing immediately. fixed it, but now it's a little noisy because of that. the TRU Trac is pretty amazing. i can give the car 100% throttle in a turn and it doesn't spin tires, it just slingshots me around a bend.

      @@3rdGenGuy Bummer on the failure. I must agree, the posi diff and disc brakes conversion brought my car to life, way more enjoyable. I also dropped from a 3:08 to a 3:43 gear. The result gave me better power band. Hope things work out for you.

    Your videos are great. I have a question though, I see you wedged a rod in there to get your posi unit out. I did the same thing but mine just won't come out. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to do something else to loosen it free?

    • @3rdGenGuy

    I just re-watched this video. Noticed you ALSO installed an aluminum driveshaft, was it from a 4th gen? And how was the fitment like? It is on my list, post LS swap. Thanks, love all your videos.

    • @3rdGenGuy
      @3rdGenGuy  Před 3 lety

      4th gen ALU driveshafts are the same length as our cars- about $100 used.
      Walter-racecraft sells an ALu shaft for $300 ish
      mine was from summit for $350 ish

    Does a 7.5 3.73 gear drop right into one of these fine? I have a 1997 Firebird 3.8 with the 3.06 gears and want to swap them out for. 3.73’s or even 4.10’s. Everywhere I looked everyone is just swapping out the entire rear end assembly with a Z28 or TA WS6, not trying to do all that lol. Other than no traction control, is there any reason NOT to just drop a set of new gears in?

    • @3rdGenGuy
      @3rdGenGuy  Před rokem +1

      some carriers can't accept lower gears.
      for example, my stock 2:73 diff can't accept a 4:10.
      if you want 3:73 you'd have to get a 3 series diff.
      I'd look for a 4th gen diff with a LSD and 3:42 gears.
      that will accept a 3.73 or 4.10

      @@3rdGenGuy in your opinion, would 4.10’s be overkill for a four speed auto and 200hp/225trq? I just want a fast 0-60, 0-80 and snappier throttle around town 0-30, 30-65 and that’s it. I’ve always had V8’s with at least 315ft/lbs.trq and V6’s are completely new to me. Let alone a late 90’s V6 lol

      @@3rdGenGuy I also got the car for not much money and want a quick city car so I don’t want to drop a LS1 or 5.3 in there lol. Minimal mods, gears/tune, intake lid and exhaust and that’s it. Maybe a moderate cam with better low and mid range torque at most.

    • @3rdGenGuy
      @3rdGenGuy  Před rokem +1

      the 4:10s and an automatic will kill highway fuel economy, but will be fairly quick out of the hole.
      usally automatic cars use 3:73 and the t56 boys 4:10s

    • @3rdGenGuy
      @3rdGenGuy  Před 4 lety

      $157 for a primer and top coat in just plane OEM Black.
      only thing i had to do was use brake cleaner to get rid of all Oils inside the axle and tubes.
      fairly easy, took 1.5 cans of brake cleaner.

    How many liters does the differential carry?

    • @3rdGenGuy
      @3rdGenGuy  Před rokem

      7.5in 10 bolts hold about 1.8 quarts.
      the easier way to make sure, is just to get the axle level, and keep filling until oil flows out of the fill port.
