      am I the only one who understands him there XD it can be frustrating when people don't know how to navigate a crowd on their own when you're in a rush. that being said I walk really fast and consider myself great in a place like times square...but have had friends I had to look after and watch out for if they got stuck in crowds it can slow down a day. Maybe not frustrating to a red flag level but definitely a good trait to have aha

    • @tonepursuit7110
      @tonepursuit7110 Před 8 lety +5

      +Scrofar I'd say that if they're seriously dissing the things you like (and not just teasingly or jokingly) then its a red flag even with an explanation. Your S.O. should be fine with realizing that you don't always HAVE to like the same things.

    • @the25thbam92
      @the25thbam92 Před 6 lety

      partially agree with you there @Tone Pursuit. Yes, a thoughtful S.O. should understand lovers don't have to like the same things. 100%. In regards to dissing the things you like...it depends. Dissing in a non-negative, constructive, and/or opinionated sense with an explanation of their POV should be ok. If it's unreasonable, then no. Why? Because there are some things that an S.O. can like that is harmful or negative to him/herself, and to others around him/herself. Not being open to an explanation is just closing off communication between each other.

    Red flag: The person can't make a conversation topic or they can't take the conversation anywhere. Every now and then is cool but if it's like every single time we talk, it would be super annoying. One of us would eventually say "So...what do you want to talk about?" and it's basically a universal fact that it's never a good thing to say that.

    • @tonepursuit7110
      @tonepursuit7110 Před 8 lety +12

      +Suspect Lol I agree. Don't think I've run out of things to talk about with my girlfriend but probably because we already left that awkward barely-dating phase. We've gotten so comfortable with each other that on long car rides we're fine just listening to the radio and not talking. Or when we briefly sit in silence while eating dinner at the table we don't panic. Just happens that we somehow always have something to talk about. I always say there's nothing wrong with silence. It's normal. However, if you can't EVER find something to talk about or connect then its a red flag in the beginning.

    • @michaelhoogendoorn3179
      @michaelhoogendoorn3179 Před 7 lety +4

      I quite agree. I love periods of silence and do not find them awkward, but every person I've ever been out with always has to interrupt times of silence with something that usually makes it awkward. Kind of unnerving for me. My guy friends and I sit and do nothing all the time. Don't see why it's taboo to do that with a girl.

      +Tammy Tan I'm not sure if it's just an american thing, but in particularly restaurants and cafes it is encouraged to tip the waiter/waitress with at least the minimum tip money because that's pretty much their entire paycheck. it's a pretty unfair system, if you ask me.

    • @peepopoint
      @peepopoint Před 8 lety +2

      You tip a small percentage of the overall price. And no, you don't have to tip everything and everyone, mainly only for services like a pizza delivery, waiters, room cleaning, and sometimes cashier. Personally I don't tip cashiers often but if they have a "tip box" (which can be compared to a hat a street performer puts on the ground) I might tip if they are nice.

    • @serlynasani
      @serlynasani Před 8 lety +41

      I'm from Singapore and we don't practice tipping either cos the restaurants will include a "service charge", which is 10% of the total bill, into the bill.

    • @sundustii
      @sundustii Před 8 lety +26

      +Tammy Tan I will tip where the situation calls for it(for sitdown restaurants it's usu 15% of the bill as a minimum; when I go to nicer/fancier restaurants and the service is good I'll tip 20%) but I don't like tipping and tbh I think it needs to be abolished as a custom. It used to be that tipping was like "oh you did a good job here's some extra money" but now it's like i feel like you havta tip even if you didn't have that good service. Where I lived in the states, the sales tax was like 8-10%, so if I went to a restaurant and got a lunch for like 12.50, it'd end up actually being around $16....
      Everyone who works as a waiter/waitress should just be paid an actual living wage(because tips are expected, the actual wage of a waitress might be like $2.50/hr, which in any other situation would be illegal). I don't see how tipping should be necessary because these people are doing their job. You're not going to tip the person who bags your groceries or your pharmacist, so I don't really see why waiters are exceptions. Sorry for ranting I just really hate this system. I've been working outside the US for 3 years now and it's SO NICE to not have to tip(and where the price shown usually includes the sales tax) and yet know that I will still get good service

  • @JaydonTobler
    @JaydonTobler Před 8 lety +6

    I think the difficult thing that can happen with long-distance is that it slows down the speed at which your relationship moves.
    So, for example, even though a coupe has been together for 6 months, but they only see each other once every two weeks (especially if you're both in school), in reality, you've only dated for about two weeks.
    And it can become worse because you're not actually part of someone's life because it's easy for both of you to imagine your lives without each other.
    And in my opinion, that's when you know you're in love: when you can't imagine your life before or after that person. It's just unfathomable to you what you life would be like without them.

    Oooooh. Inlaws ARE a big deal. You'd better have some kind of good relationship with them OR a shit-load of physical distance. You may not be marrying them.. but they will be there at every holiday. You will hear what they have to say about your wedding, your marriage, your kids and the way you raise them. Then if you stop showing up to these family events, your spouse will start to resent you. If you keep going against your will.. you'll start to resent your spouse. This was a big component of my first marriage failing.

    My bf and I are on two separate continents(he's in california and I'm in Japan), we were dating for almost 2 years before I moved(and even before that we had a mini-LDR for about 6 months where he was in LA and I was in the bay area); we only see each other 2x a year and it's been great :) It really all depends on the person and how stable your relationship is. This year in August is our 5th anni and I'm actually moving back to CA but still two hours away by car.

    this is so funny! my fiance and I are totally different - like opposite views on a bunch of stuff mentioned in this video (movies, music, drinking, big crowds, map navigating). but opposites attract is definitely the theme of our relationship, because it's great! lol keeps it interesting for us

    "You smoke? Oh! Let's talk about that." XD
    A red flag for me would be if an individual kept sending you messages. If it was on a daily basis when they ask you how you are or what you are doing it gets annoying very quickly.

  • @blackhairties

    Red flag - someone who says they can't date vegetarians and people who don't drink.. think about it, I'll never steal your food, but you can eat mine (because food is food and everyone's curious) and you never have to look far for a designated driver

    • @peepopoint
      @peepopoint Před 8 lety

      I can understand his take on vegetarians because it is possible some conflicts could be raised on where to eat or what to eat. It would just be extremely complicated finding a way to eat together all the time without it becoming stale from going to the same place over and over. Drinking, however is different because it's not a lifestyle so I don't get why you'd get a red flag on that XD

    • @blackhairties
      @blackhairties Před 8 lety

      +Phreid haha it's not really a red flag for me, it was a joke at how vegetarians are a red flag for him. If it was a red flag, it'd be so hard for me to date..

    • @drakesmith471
      @drakesmith471 Před 3 lety

      On the topic of food, yeah, basic table manners are necessary. I don't care if you don't know how to set the table 100 percent but like, showing an ability to have appropriate table etiquette like eating with your mouth close and forks are a must. I also think that people should know how to cook, it's honestly not only sad but annoying to hear friends say they don't know how to cook, because lordy you'll be doing it a lot. I am not expecting anything ambitious and I just want them to have the most basic knowledge of how to handle things. I think it's also tell tale if they don't wish to abide by a recipe at all, because I'd feel that'd be telling as to how good they think they are. I'd hope if they're so proud, that the outcome would be there to back the confidence. How many of you agree?
