    Health has always been the issue with tall skinny NBA players. They tend to get hurt a lot and have short careers.

    • @derpderpin1568
      @derpderpin1568 Před 10 měsíci +1

      Actually it's the tall heavy players that have this issue the most. The skinny tall guys are the tall guys that have made it historically.

    • @Alex-kd5xc
      @Alex-kd5xc Před 10 měsíci

      Sure but how many of those guys played as gangly and awkward as they physically were? Wembanyama has clear fluidity and control over his length that most lanky guys don’t have. I think that has to count for something.

      KD?? Y’all skinny usually ok y’all heavy usually bad

  • @darnell-mooney
    @darnell-mooney Před 10 měsíci +34

    Wemby is skinny but insanely flexible, which is key for preventing injuries. he can do a full split at 7'4 and has been working on flexibility his whole life. he is more coordinated than guys 6 inches shorter. most bigs who get hurt, get hurt because they either have too much weight (Yao), or because they're stiff athetes playing against explosive athletes (Porzingis was pretty athletic but still stiff and couldn't really control his body like Wemby). the only other 7'2+ guy who had the fluidity and flexibility of Wemby was Kareem, who played 20 years in the NBA.

    • @ZDF_BTW
      @ZDF_BTW Před 10 měsíci

      KD tore his achilles doing nothing. same with kobe and plenty others. doing the splits isnt going to save you much other than a pulled groin. whether its size, or weight, injuries can be probable when playing athletics. 7'4 in general, let alone on a miniscule muscle mass is scary for a guy like me in the field. im sure he has people around him doing there best, we have great technology BUT... the man is 7'4 playing a high pace sport with low BMI.

    • @darnell-mooney
      @darnell-mooney Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@ZDF_BTW higher BMI wouldn't prevent an achilles tear either, so what is even your point? you're a bit all over the place. flexibility especially in places like the ankle/toes/hips will help him stay healthier than a guy who is less flexible. you literally can't argue against this. the spurs doctors also have said they plan on building functional strength instead of bulk muscle because higher BMI = more stress on his entire lower body.

    • @tysonmaddox1090
      @tysonmaddox1090 Před 10 měsíci +1

      Look it’s great if he has both and we all know that but I agree that having less stress on his joints by being flexible and not being too bulky is better. KD tore his Achilles when he had an already really tight calf not when it was at a normal state

    • @zafiruzoma6234
      @zafiruzoma6234 Před 10 měsíci

      Unfortunately if you're too flexible it makes it easier to tear through ligaments

    • @rfmmike6096
      @rfmmike6096 Před 10 měsíci

      Ehh nba is still fibbing about the barefoot height thing considering a bunch of prospects from the past two years who they measured barefoot yet still use height in shoes. Giannis looks only an inch taller than Portis who 6'9.5 barefoot so realistically he's probably still around 6'11 but maybe 7'0 in shoes. @@K1ngw221

    • @n0follow
      @n0follow Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@K1ngw221 probably not the case with Giannis, but a lot of guys would lie about their heights, KD being a good example (probably to avoid being classified as a big, by the same reasons jxmmy explained)

    so many insane teams this year. Nuggets gonna be great again without a doubt, got the insane duo in phoenix, the insane duo on the bucks, the Heat have proven to be insanely scrappy, Celtics looking stronger than ever. playoffs are gonna be a bloodbath lol
    I think Giannis is technically 6'11 or 6'10 but yea insanely huge for how fast he runs. that's why he's so unstoppable and such a good defender

  • @ZDF_BTW
    @ZDF_BTW Před 10 měsíci +3

    Aidan has a point, with these lengthy tall guys, injuries are bound to happen. And when giannis was a young buck (no pun intended) he was very slim, he was instructed to put on mass and he wanted to. Kevin durant came to our facility and couldnt bench 145lbs and thats prob why our home town blazers chose greg oden in front of him in the draft. greg was great but got injured. backfired. although that one was a mistake i cant blame the thought process. he was also listed at around 6'9 coming out of texas but was a clear 7'0 to me. but just TINY. wanted to feed him a meal. im from portland oregon where nike is, work there, and have met all sorts of players. i was surprised on the heights of the players, heres my take on the ones i have met and seen together. dame: always listed higher than what he really is. 6'1 without shoes 6'2 with if that. westbrook- a solid 6'3 maybe even 6'4. he was bigger than i thought when seeing him. giannis- 6'11. lebron 6'8.

      tbf injuries are bound to happen with every NBA player. I dont think Vic is gonna be as plagued with injuries as some people think. he's very smart and moves his body very well for someone over 7ft, his flexibility and mobility is insane (with helps a lot in preventing injuries)

    • @rfmmike6096
      @rfmmike6096 Před 10 měsíci +2

      Plus big men like Vic usually have serious injuries before getting into the league that indicate what the future holds, based on Dr Brian md's vid nothing about his past suggests he should face big injury risk(although is frame and height will always play a role I'm strictly speaking about injury history)

    • @Plague_Doc22
      @Plague_Doc22 Před 10 měsíci

      " he was instructed to put on mass and he wanted to"
      Not only that, but a lot of the NBA players take PED's. Which in turn can lead to muscles growing faster than ligaments. Which is why you see poeple tearing muscles while lifting for example. Because the body isnt built to deal with that weight.

    This year’s college basketball season will have a record number of foreign players. UCLA’s top recruit, Aday Mara (Spain), is predicted to be good enough to get drafted after one year at the college level.
    When speaking on the difference between US and foreign players, UCLA coach Mick Cronin said, “Here’s the difference: Everywhere but America, sports are not related to school. Everything is club, and there are junior teams that are tied underneath professional teams. They don’t have the confines of the academics that limits high school coaches in every state. Any time a European kid has played basketball, [he] has been coached. There’s no pickup basketball. They’re more mature in their understanding of moving without the ball, passing the ball, concepts.”
