Danny Ricciardo needed a performance that makes everyone forget about Lawson, and that is exactly what he did.
forget about who ?
@@sporehux8344lol
I think Lawson is looming still, huge potential. Red Bull won't want to lose him from their ranks, Yuki/Danny/Checo will be under even more pressure next season, i can see one of them losing out in favour of Lawson by end of '24
Still, imo Lawson deserves a shot at a full-time f1 seat, over drivers like Stroll, Sargeant as well as Magnussen who's way past his prime even if he is in a shoddy Haas car
@@kevinmattsson5718 RB has reportedly promised him a seat at one of their teams for 2025, so I think the other couple of teams wouldnt find the value in a 1 year drive from him next year. Williams will want someone they can keep and develop for a few years and hopefully hang onto while they improve. Surely Stroll, Sargent, Kmag, maybe Bottas are all approaching the end of the F1 careers with so much talent around. By 2026 if Lewis Alonso Checo Bottas, maybe Hulk and Danny are all retired we could have a very different landscape!!
De Vries is closer to Checo on points than Checo is to Max 🤣
And also if you remove Checo's point from Red bull, they would still have the championship locked up right now
If it wasn't for Mercedes constantly having a collective nervous breakdown time and again, Checo would've been exposed sooner than later.
Thats a disgusting stat! 😅
@@rongiefaustino8867Saying he has been exposed isn't fair. He has been genuinely a consistent driver through out his career, he's doing terrible and is buckling under the pressure but don't act like has been trash during his entire career. At the end of the day there's a reason why he was picked by Redbull.
@@billypilgrim1 true, its as if dts has brainwashed people into thinking pre-2021 doesnt exist. Plus we are seeing arguably the worst season of checo against one of the most dominant seasons by a driver ever. I would be surprised if rb choose to buyout his contract rather than give him one more season.
I was so frustrated that they didn't show the Russell vs Riccardo action in the last lap
One thing about this season, its the first season EVER that every constructor on the grid has gotten more than 10 points, that speaks volumes about how close the grid has been
And all of this exciting racing is happening while the championship is completely dominated still.
Just goes to show that even seasons of utter dominance can be exciting
Yes exactly, every team has had a race where they had the pace for decent points, great season if you care about racing and not just the top of the podium. Looking at how close the qualifying gaps are aswell, bit over a second separating the field means that most teams can get a great quali performance and reach Q3.
@@jkae4795I think the racing is mid, even in the midfield. The cars are just to sluggish and huge to overtake. But the budget cap is definetly the best decition they ever made, just looking at how close and frankly amazing quali is and how every team manages to be somewhat competitive.

The podcast is very awesome but I just have a small suggestion that could be very nice , which is dividing the video into chapters so people who want to hear about a particular topic could just select the chapter watch it first instead of finding it for 5 mins
F1 cars are so safe now that you don’t often see drivers shaken up after a crash but Kmag legitimately seemed like he was reconsidering things after that one
It might have been the fire that scared him most.
@@spawnofapathy and the fact the car just let go of him. Its one thing when your racing another car or pushing a hard corner and lose it. Its a whole other thing to go through a corner and the car just goes the wrong way. Then add in what you said about smoke flying in front of him. just rough in every way
I don't blame him. With the fire, maybe he had Grosjean flashbacks? Being a dad, perhaps he was wondering if he should retire for the sake of his family? He must know that he's unlikely to get a better car than a Haas, so racing in WEC with his dad might be a better choice? _Just_ speculation, of course. I wouldn't blame him.
I think he got more shaken up than people realize. I don't think it was just the fire. He looked pretty rough there
I noticed this as well. It doesn't help that the last car to have a massive fire incident was a Haas. He also escaped the car so fast that he didn't have a chance to check in with his engineer so it ends with him asking if he's okay a few times.
In my opinion its kinda heartbreaking for Logan. Another solid calm drive, he needs those, fuel pump on the last lap is soooo unlucky.
Yet he didn't match Albon, I think he should be doing better than he does, most of the improvement atm. Is the Williams car. Even if overtaking a Haas is not hard on paper, he did DRS Magnussen, whom isn't an easy driver to overtake, just ask, Alonso, Hamilton, Vettel etc. So I'll give Logan props for that. However, it's important for me to also highlight that Lundgaard was dropped by Alpine for F1, and he comfortably beat Logan while being his junior in equal machinery. And Lundgaard was beat by Zhou and Mick, and all of these have been unimpressive compared to Piastri for example. I am not sure I think Logan is F1 material.
Danny Ric is indeed back and we've missed his smile on the grid! But I hope he repeats it in Brazil and isn't a one-off like Monza '21!
Depends If Alpha Tauri is good in Brazil, which I doubt. I do think he's in better form now, but people will probably brush it off as a one off
I don't think it'll be like Monza.
He was just fast all the race. Not like Italy where there was more luck.
I think the only track that would resonate with the Alpha tauri is Las Vegas but we still need to see how the cars perform there
@@Alexssandreyeah I mean with 2 more laps he would've gotten Russell IN A MERCEDES
Lets see if he can keep that level of performance up before we can say he's "really" back.

Him sticking to racing and announcing retirement would have been better than that embarassment. And the fact that he couldn't even take responsibility and inadvertently turned his fans against innocent Leclerc was appalling
Yep, he did definitely retire 😂 but just the car and just for one race.
At this pace he might just win the "most damage" trophy
I dont understand why people are surprised at the gap between Charles and Carlos. Sainz being close to Leclerc has literally no benifit to him because he will just overheat the car and destroy the tyres.
And he’s just slower….

@@stuartrowan9574 Brother are you seriously going to argue that Sainz is a better driver than Leclerc? Look at last year..... Leclerc wiped the floor with him and he was no where near driving at his best (mistakes in Imola, France, so on) furthermore had multiple bad strategy calls and engine blow ups (Spain, Baku so on). This year his luck is shite only reason he's ahead of sainz. Just because someone is higher in the championship does not make them quicker. look at the difference of ham and Russell this year and last year the gaps are not representative of their speed. Russell got lucky with safety cars last year ham didn't. this season Russell has had misfortune and a few shit drives (last two races). Point is Leclerc lando and Russell are on another level compared to the rest. (Max and Hamilton are on another planet this season).

No.
It was Max sitting on his car on the podium.
To be fair, all Ricciardo needed to get AT seat was to have a banging testing session, so maybe Red Bull are just looking to fast track him back
And Nick got a drive after one race with Williams
If you don’t pay attention to Max winning (which I didn’t even though I am still a fan of his and the win 16 is impressive) I got a lot of enjoyment watching the battles in the upper and middle of the mid field and even at the back of the grid. Lando and Alex had fantastic drives.
True af. As a max fan, I am used to ignoring him and see what others are doing, and this race was a solid 4/5 for me, despite others saying it was boring.

16:50 I think part of why Lando had such a good recovery drive was because of how far he started back. If he started further ahead I think he would of probably gotten the same position. He was motivated to get points so he started with an aggressive drive, by the time he was in the points the confidence and adrenaline carried him up to P5.
F1 isn't a movie where if you try your hardest you'll find pace. He would be on the podium if he didn't messed up in quali. The "adrenaline" you're talking about is pure nonsense. Every driver has adrenaline not just Lando.
That’s not how f1 works bro
It might just be me, but I found this race really enjoyable to watch. Seems like there was a more negative response, but overall I thought it was pretty decent :D
It reminded me of old F1, lots of action , real skills, and challenges, completed by the whole grid. Very enjoyable to watch.
Thoroughly enjoyed this race, not quite understanding the hate towards it 🤷♂
lots of the hate is just from disappointed checo fans who wanted to see him race. that aside, we've had yet another great race
@@GeoffG-ATX
Agreed. A lot of the 'bad' tracks have been really exciting without getting flowers this year. The TV direction has been better than its been in years as well.
Some things either get brought up to be criticized or never at all.
It was a boring race for Ferrari fans...
Sadly Matty... Perez said that he didn't want another podium. It was win or go home. Amazing transparency, however, he forgot that he was supposed to secure #2 for the year.
It’s exactly the attitude RedBull doesn’t need. They already have a winner, they need someone to secure a podium no matter what, and the occasional win if the number 1 isn’t there for some reason.
Coming from the guy that only has 5 podiums in the whole season... that argument really made no sense to me as he hasn't seen the podium for weeks/ months
Slight correction, if Hamilton hadn't gotten the DSQ in the US GP, both Perez and Hamilton would have the same amount of points.
I understand what you are saying but if's are waste of time. It is like if checo didn't crash given his pace at the start he could have finished 2nd
@@krishnavamsi7481 Well not exactly, like sure there is a partial what if, but the difference is that Hamilton finished both races, even when one was a DSQ, while Checo crashed in the Mexico city GP due to his own impatience. Like sure I understand what you mean however you are arguing that a driver making a costly error is on the same level as the car not being in a right setup due to limited time to prepare.
I am fairly confident that Danny Ric is in a good place. He seems to have found a setup window he likes in that AT. I hope it lasts. In my opinion Checo will be okay if he holds on to P2 maybe... DrHM must have blades drawn.
I think people are not giving Albon enough credit. He’s had a phenomenal season and I believe if Redbull is going to give anyone another shot he is the one out of them all that deserves it.
I think you get him in that seat and when Max inevitably decides to retire early which he has already stated is a possibility you throw everything at Norris in 2024 to get him to join Redbull!
You do realise albon was max's teammate for one and a half seasons, right?... (edit)... sorry I didn't see the word another ...
I think Horner has alluded to the fact that Albon isn't interested atm. Frankly, Williams have been looking up ever since he (and now Vowles) have joined, and i think it makes more sense for him to at least stick around until 2026 to see if it pans out rather than try and become the 5th driver vying for 1 RB seat
Albon has already said he doesn't want to go back. He has shown he doesn't mesh well with the Red Bull atmosphere and he cant match Max. It just doesn't make sense for him to go back when he is the leader at Williams.
I don't think Lando's drive is a reflection on Oscar. Lando just hit 100 races where as Oscar is a newbie. Think Oscar is settling in and hopefully should show some good consistency soon.
The Yuki rollercoaster this weekend unfortunately ended in a disaster. Broke my heart. 10/10 if he JUST had had the patience. Cant be 100% sad he went for it though... heartbroken
just hoping this is a real character builder for him.
So sad. He might have even closed up to Ricciardo if he could pass Piastri later.... And we would be talking about how Ricciardo did great, but Yuki was actually faster because he came from last place.
Now we're talking about his rookie error... I wish him more than that.
Rookie 😂😂
He made a rookie error not that he actually is a rookie
@@tharealmbhe benefited a lot from the red flag while Ricciardo was hurt by it. Yuki was having a fantastic race before the crash but he also had a touch of luck helping him get so far up the grid
i think ocon's radio message was moreso to say to his team "i'm gonna go for it so don't swap us". gasly was within DRS range of ocon for like 10 laps at least prior to that, and eventually gasly started getting attacked from behind by bottas. i'm just assuming gasly was on the radio telling the team to tell ocon to hurry it up or swap them. ocon would then respond "i'm going to go for it so give me time"
"Teams don't work like one good performance, bang here's a contract."
Alpha Tauri would like to differ, because that's exactly what they did with De Vries.

This Perez incident is exactly like Hamilton's crash into Russell. The biggest difference is that after the race, Hamilton owned up and took ownership of that accident, while Perez seemed to give stupid excuses..
He's always giving excuses, why do you think his fanbase turned Rabid. They come up with conspiracies because he can't give a straight answer
Hahaha perez fans tell you that is was max fault bec his car is better
The funniest part of F1. History always repeats itself and sometimes even with the roles reversed so watching the fan reaction is always entertaining.
There was also the difference that Ham with Russell are teammates and they were in different strategies, so Russell could have backed off.

@@mikespearwood3914 If Ferrari wasn't busy being Ferrari, Max raced Leclerc pretty well in 2022.
@@GloomGaiGar A damn shame Ferrari dropped off so rapidly.
You are correct. I remember when Max had the "Crashstappen" nick-name. When they came together in Baku, I thought that this was just going to be the pattern for the next few years. What I didn't bank on was that neither Danny or Max got angry with each other over that moment, yet Horner was beside himself. Making them apologize to the workers back at the base and then paying for the booze bill at the company Christmas party afterwards which, I found out later, when Christian announced that the drivers were paying, was quite excessive.
Max learned a lot of lessons over the years, and is a great driver now. A shame Daniel didn't stay with them. Max and Daniel were a great pairing and the only one where Max had a competitive team mate who was snapping at his heels. We need more of that again!
Great episode boys, thanks for the hour long recaps on CZcams, feels nice to have them here.
Here's the thing about Ricciardo: if you understand the dynamics between the McLarens he drove and the other cars that he drove, and how his driving style works, then it's really not about him proving that he has the ability to do well in a car like the RB19. He can still drive, he's just not good at adjusting to a car that requires a significantly different style. He's a multi-race winner. He didn't just lose all that talent that he had built up once he got into the seat of a McLaren.
More than anything, I think the biggest concern for Red Bull was that he learned some bad habits, and going off the statements of Horner, that sounds like it was the case. So for Ricciardo, it was more about unlearning those bad habits than building up driving skill. The guy has been in F1 for over a decade and is a multi-race winner. He didn't just forget how to drive. This is a very different scenario than, for instance, wondering if Yuki has what it takes to occupy the second Red Bull seat. And Ricciardo has experience there, too. With Max as his teammate, to boot!
IMO Ricciardo is the ideal driver for the second Red Bull seat, especially since at this stage of his career he's probably not going to be challenging for WDC (although I think he's one of the few drivers currently on the grid that could actually bring that challenge to Max). And the benefit is that his driving style is very similar to Max's, so he should theoretically benefit from changes to the car that help Max, unlike Checo.
Danny Ric never left. He just stepped aside for a while.

I don’t think the track is that bad. This race was one of the better ones so far this season. I think the altitude is the main problem. With the cars going so fast down the straights, even with a lot of downforce, there is less space to make an overtake. I think they said the main straight is the same length as COTA’s back straight, but you are going that much faster so it is much harder to overtakenin Mexico

"The meatballs flag" is new to me 🤣
Bring on Interlagos! I used to love watching it on the TV late at night/early morning here in Australia. I used to love driving it in Microprose Grand Prix 4 when I finally was able to afford it. For those just coming in fresh to F1, this track offers all aspects of the sport. It humbles the greats and makes heroes of the unexpected.
Lando had one hell of a come back. I will forgive him for qualifying. I am still celebrating South Africa world cup win 😂
🇿🇦♥️
When I watched it live I was schocked that Leclerc didn't receive a "Meatball" after the incident with Perez (Magnussen probably would've gotten one). The VSC provoked by the debris only futher backs that. What If someone got a puncture because of it? Or Charles lost control of the car because of less aero?
Although i was also surprised he didnt come in after that, debris on track doesnt mean the car is unsave. Thats more when there is debris still hanging of the car. And im pretty sure the engineers could show the fia that there is no significant areo change for that to become unsave. The meatbal flag (i think) is supposed to be for an unsave car, and his was 'fine'
They changed the rules, know you're allowed to drive with a wing like that
If they can redesign the track and add a little extra bit right before the stadium section so that late braking passes are possible at the stadium it would completely make that track bearable
Everyone has been complimenting Lando, saying he'd have beaten Hamilton, and I don't know if people saw just how difficult it was to pass the guys at the front? Hamilton had to make an epic overtake on Leclerc, off track, just to get by. Lando passed a lot of slow cars, he did well, but I think Hamilton deserves more credit for bringing those mediums home and setting the fastest lap at the end, where George literally got passed by Lando lol.

Yuki cant have too mant more days like that. As of right now the narrative is pretty good for yuki but if danny ric has a couple good performancesand yuki does that a couple more times the narrative will quickly flip to him being outperformed by danny ric when you cant really say that right now.
People are riding the Ric train based one 1 single race. Yuki has had a great 2023
lando couldn't match leclerc and hamilton's pace on that last stint. I think the best he could do if he qualified in a better position was p3
Correct. Lewis and max were rapid. Charles was really fast too
LMAO
There is one saving grace of the track: it is named after the late Rodriguez brothers, who died racing. So, to fix it?
1. First of all, drop the "City" from the race name. There's no other GP in the country of Mexico.
2. You can't *fix* the altitude....exactly. But you may be ameliorate this somewhat. Take a few of the cars from this season (after the season) with reserve drivers -- 1 from each engine make. Drive them several laps individually, but raise the turbo pressure. See if that helps things out. If so, implement that as a Mexico-only rule variation.
3. Redo the track layout from scratch. Keep it a road course, of course, but take some cues from superspeedway ovals. Make a longish straight that will give you plenty of room for DRS. Bank a turn or two to increase the speed (for banking, think more Indy than Daytona). You can even keep the course somewhat short, aim for a lap time of something like 90 seconds, which will them amplify the effect of the straight and banked corner(s) by having the drivers go through them more often. Essentially, you're creating a roval without the rest of the oval.
We have miami on a parking lot, italy w just as many slow turns, zandvoort w its tiny track width AND they one they hate is the Mexico gp?!?!
Matt and thommy are showing some interesting preferences here
Miami literally had one of the most overtakes in a race. Monza is a crown jewel, and a great race track. Zandvoort, well, I can agree there - it is only the calendar for Max's home race.
@@niall5701 Tbf I am not saying those tracks are shit - but just that M&T seem to be bashing the MX GP more than it is due. I do not hate any of the tracks but think that the MX GP is comparable to the low downforce teams use in Monza, more historic than Miami and has similar issues as Zandvoort (in terms of their purpose in the calendar).
@@user-it5th2gg2j I understand your point of view, but I'm with M&T on this one. Needs some serious work to get up to a standard where we might see some good racing. I also think that being at such high altitude, theres always issues with engine cooling so drivers are more bothered about getting across the finish line rather than being competitive - we saw it with Sainz. My 50p would be - get rid of the second chicane at then end of first straight. Get rid of the chicane at the end of second straight. Tighten the double apex to a hairpin. Keep infield the same. Instead of the clunky hairpin into stadium section and open the corner up fully - I understand that this is is not logistically possible but thats my opinion.
@@niall5701 I admit it is not the best but I do not get the hate.
I guess my whole point with the M&T comment is that it seems kinda from left-field. Is MX GP the best one on the calendar? No.
Can it be better? sure.
But some tracks can also vary depending on a few factors. Hungary used to be 'monaco without walls' and it was a banger this year. Spa is usually a banger but a few years ago the rain caused it to suck (if you can even call 2 laps a race). This year, there were tons of overtakes in the second chicane in MX + that great drive from Lando.
Was it really a boring race? For 1st maybe but I thought the race was fun. Producers need to be better with the tv feed, cameras miss a lot of battles
Piastri had damage I think which caused him to lose performance.
You got to respect Checo for being honest. He was mad, but at himself. He knew, and he didn't deflect, or avoid the question, he simply owned it.
4:01 I was also surprised about what Checo said on his post race interviews, on the Star+ interview for the Latin American transmission he said the podium wasn’t enough for him, he had been on the podium the last few years and he wanted to win this time and he would’ve done it again because if he had made it he would’ve won, he repeated multiple times he’s dream was to win and he wanted to do it whatever it takes. And then said he didn’t expect Charles to break so late. I’m guessing it was the heartbreak and pressure he’s been feeling and the desperation to win that caught him out of place during those interviews.
In the cooldown room Hamilton made the comment about the Checo move in turn one.
" He did me in Qatar " He said with a grin , which is basically true.
Estie Bestie sent it but it took 2-3 business days to get to Haas
checo really thought…
Going around the outside is a verstappen thing😂 ask nasr, rosberg, hamilton, ocon, leclerc, bottas
idk who said it first , but it seems like no one ever told Sergio "you can't win the race in turn one, but you can lose it"
I think if Hamilton wouldn’t have been disqualified, they would have equal points now, because Perez would have finished on 5th not 4th so minus 2 points there too
Yes, they would be levelled on points.
Problem with being a Ricciardo fan is he's so inconsistent but when he shines it suckers you back in. It's like a rollercoaster being a Ricciardo fan
Honestly I stopped counting all the GOATs you guys got so far 😂😂
26:19 the f1TV commentator said “Esteban Ocon recording lines for drive to survive” 😂
The booing... LeClerc was the victim, lol!
As a max fan, the way race direction sidelined last lap battle between Russel and Ricciardo was downright criminal
@@Redlingstein no one cares about that honestly, especially at this race when two drivers were centimetres close to each other. Just can't believe they can't do small Picture in picture to show us the last lap battle. It's not fucking Newtown's law of physics that you cannot break.

While lando did pass Oscar, it was discovered after the race that Oscar’s underfloor was fairly damaged which as a result lead him to fall behind on race pace
16:05
Oscar wasn't moving up from 7 or whatever even before the damage happened. He's a terrific rookie, and he'll keep getting better, but Lando was much faster in Mexico.
In the last 5 races Perez has not finished on the podium and only gained 17 points (less than a single 2nd place finish).
Being capable of a podium is not the question anymore. Anyone is capable of a podium in that car, and any other driver would have delivered MORE podiums than Perez.
Fernando to red Bull 2024 🤞🏽
On the point about the track, I agree with most of the points. However, I very much disagree about the point on high kerbs, we've complaining extensively about the track limits problem this season and I think the kerbs in mexico work for that goal.
Is it possible that the AlphaTauri just worked better with the conditions of Mexico and maybe suited Daniel more? Had move over/under steer etc. to suit his style better? I want to see what Daniel does in Brazil first to know if he is back to his old self or not.
Russell is having a very poor season and there is no denying it, He isn't even near Lewis's level and it was evident in this race when he couldn't even pass Sainz, if it wasn't for Austin DQ He would be 90 points behind Lewis 💀.
Max had In 19 second lead before the red flag and a 15 second lead afterwards so does that count as a 34 second victory margin.
Wait... is there a P1 live show? I had absolutely no clue at all
A radio channel where all the drivers could talk to each other would be fun as hell
Well done to Daniel Ricciardo. Must prove this is not a fluke and finish in top 15 for last 3 races.
Oscar Piastri seems a little unlucky of late. He needs to be in the top 5 again soon an carry this momentum into the next season.
I think he is too agressive on his tyres compared to Lando. No tyre left is no pace.
@@nielsdebakker3283 Race craft is the bigger problem. All young drivers that turn out to be GREAT later on go through the same phase. Max also went through it. But Oscar has just been hit by other drivers.
Remember that both Checo’s and Daniel’s contracts are with Red Bull Racing. They can swap Danny and Checo without a single change to a contract. That’s part of the reason they own both teams.
I like the track. I like the stadium section. I like 4, 5, and 6 (Norris passing Russell and Ricciardo). It's easier to pass here than it is at Japan.
If you look at the start the Red Bull looked as if they had 100 HP more then the Ferrari. Also Yuki had good performance as well and could fight supposedly better cars. So to me it looks like the Honda engines were way less effected by the hight then the other engines, especially the Ferrari engines
KI KI KI RRRRRAAAA!!!!
Ye ye I’m a performance athlete!!!
