when I was in high school I worked for a nursery in Missouri. The father and son were total AHoles. always screaming and pay was terrible. I went on to school for horticulture and now have a very successful business . I always tell people working for them was a good reason for my success . what they did not realize other than how much the workers hated them and never stayed long is they would sabotage plant material and tools behind their back. I now treat and pay my employees like gold. they will do anything for me and work as though the business is theirs. I always get compliments on how good my crew is.

Your story reminds me of A.J. Foyt at the Indy 500 one year. I was sitting in the stands across from the pits and AJ comes in for a pit stop, exits, and comes back in one lap later. He gets out of the car, starts yelling at all of his pit crew, then picks up a wrench and begins beating the hell out of his car with the wrench. AJ was a competitor, didn't like losing, but he sure had a temper when things didn't go his way!

I have seen it when I drove concrete truck. I know a lot of them had drug or alcohol issues. We would rate the building trades on the jobsites. Drywallers and roofers always seemed to be in the same class as concrete guy. Framers were higher up the food chain for some skills. then you had the plumbers and electrician way up the food chains. The poured wall crews were for the most part like seeing the workers at the carnival. But the worst was the tar baby spraying water proofing on basement walls this was a special group of former glue sniffers. I know there are good people in all trades, but it seems to be stereotypical but not far off base.

Hi stan, bless u as always for an excellent video , am from the uk and was a plumber and boiler engineer for some 40 x years , at one company i had a right miserable supervisor , nothing was good enough for him , we was working at a big hotel where the main sewer drains had blocked up to the 3 rd floor as the toilets were backing up, there was an access plate on the external sewer pipe , 1 st floor level and this supervisor thought he knew everything , he got a ladder went up to the inspection sewer cover and started to remove it , I tried to warn him of the sewer pipes blocked above him, as he removed the cover it all of a sudden came undone with the pressure behind it, knocked him off the ladder and a huge stream of sewer material sprayed him like a fire hose , I ended up on the grass as I couldn’t stand due to laughing so hard , as he stood up it was like something out of a swamp horror movie and my god the smell was gut wrenching , felt he got his just deserves for being so nasty with everyone else , even my boss couldn’t stop laughing , he left the company soon after , am a strong believer of what comes around goes around , thks again for taking us along for the journey , ur such a strong role model of what younger men should inspire to be, not afraid to roll ur sleeves up come rain or shine , when I was at work some apprentices couldn’t think for themselves nor have any common sense , teaching them could sometimes be very difficult , stay safe and well and thks again

The best concrete contractor in our area was the same way. I’ll never forget, he was actually pouring my next-door neighbors foundation Saturday morning. I seen the state troopers go flying into my neighbors yard. Marty, the contractor got pissed off at the mixer driver and threw a shovel through his windshield. Crazy $#!t. The guy had glass in his eyes and they had to take him to the hospital. Such a waste, Marty did all the pores in the area and was making truckloads of money. Beautiful house on the lake with a huge inground pool looking over the lake, converted bus RV. He died like 56 years old from meth.

Stan I did an ol' google search on the stack and it said:
One boast of the holz hausen is that it dries wood more quickly than a traditional woodpile. The theory goes that its cylindrical form causes a chimney effect, in which air entering the holz hausen is drawn upward by the heated mass of wood in the center, speeding the drying effect.

of the things l learned from those first 8yrs is what kind of concrete guy to NOT be which i never became. i get things done with less words talking than others screaming using more words.
plus, being that angry all the time takes up too much energy and time. i enjoy doing concrete and will until i cant which i hope to have another good 20 yrs left in me.

Before i retired from being a concrete mixer driver and big concrete boom truck operator. Over 30 1/2 years of experience. I saw alot of bosses and crew members that were under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The worst i encountered was a foreman of a concrete crew on steroids. Me and this individual got into a heated argument about safety. I flat out told him that if he tried to grab the hose while i was priming out , that I would rabbit mode him across the pour . It was roughly 200 by 100 foot big floor . My younger self was plagued with stubbornness, especially about safety.

    • @michaelatoz580

The unwritten rule was never piss off a concrete driver he was the boss on the pour. But if a pump truck was on site, they were king. I drove concrete truck for 8 years before I went to work for a mid-size city as a concrete finisher /form setter for 20 years, I delt mostly with Cross concrete pumping in the Midwest. As a mixer driver you could screw over a concrete contractor, and they would never know it and they would work there azzz off. Best trick was dry batch at a 2 inch slump on a hot day turn the drum slow and add water bringing it to a 6 in slump rolling up to the job. My truck had a 100 gallon water tank and a highway paving drum. I only did this to a few that were total "A" holes to work for.
