    I'm sorry if there are any mistakes in this video! It was very long to make I probably lost my concentration at times. Also, mentionning that female singers are compared because of their physical traits, age and RACE is not racist and sexist it's Just a F.A.C.T.U.A.L

    EDIT: (TIMELINE AND SONGS I USED IN THE DESCRIPTION BOX)
    About the video: Some ppl did not get the concept. I'm pointing differences not to bring someone down to value another singer. My concept has the opposite purpose. It's like " stop comparing tthem and appreciate them individually for the talent they have."
    About Christina: I've called her non technical because she said it herself. She said herself her singing was more focused on intuition and style. I praised every part of her register (but mixed voice technique) so please stop being offended by that and focusing on that point.
    And sorry some of you told me that i mistake some vocal types I'll correct it with annotations. The video was very long to make. I'm usually clumsy (my old subs would know) and I really lost my concentration at times doing that. Thanks for watching. Let me know if you have any recommendation.

      They’re not “both incredible” so let’s cut the crap. Ari, as much as I love her music, does not posses anywhere near the vocal prowess that Mariah had during her prime. Mariah sang with emotion AND technicality, but Ariana only sounds pretty when she sings; not having any emotion whatsoever. and you know why they compare mariah and Ariana? Bcus Ariana is on her 6th album yet is still in Mariah’s shadow and is basically a watered down copycat of her
      Edit: I want add more bcus I don’t want to seem like I hate Ariana cus I’m a fan of hers. But I’m not delusional. I want to add some praise to how she utilizes her voice, bcus she NEVER misses live, and even when she was lying upside down, she still had very strong vocals. That’s impressive af. I know with Ariana’s, that I won’t feel uncomfortable hearing her sing, bcus she always is great live. One of her idols is Whitney, so I feel like she was inspired by how she preserved her voice bcus I can see a small similarity there

      I know right. Ikr and when are compared it's usually because of praise. Eg The Weeknd has the same voice like MJ. If there are unhealthy types of comparisons for men the controversy is quickly shut down whereas for women it's encouraged and even goes on for years with people starting to make rumors that the artists hate each other. I'm not surprised because the music industry also promotes this as in the people behind the scenes like the directors and managers. A good example is the Cardi B/Nicki hate. Nicki never said anything bad about cardi, but Cardi let the money and the fans get to her head. That's how the Niki bandwagon hate started. Like where's the respect for hardworking women 💔.

      No. Actually, Michael Jackson has been compared a lot. Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars, BTS and countless others have been compared to him. John Lennon and Paul McCartney have been pitted against each other since time immemorial and it ultimately led to the split of the Fab Four.
      Michael was compared to Elvis. Coldplay was compared with The Beatles and Queen. Queen and Rolling Stones were pitted against each other. Jay-Z, Nas, Eminem have all suffered this pitting. BTS is being called the new Beatles. This was in existence since long. Whenever you start to grow a lot in people's eyes, people will try to replace you.

    People need to put some respect on Mariah's name tbh. I think people forget she's legend status because she tries to stay current and is always releasing new music. Not saying Ariana can't sing, she defo can. But there's a reason why MC is an icon, legend, worthy contender for GOAT etc along with the likes of Whitney, Stevie, Aretha etc. It would be better to say Ariana has been influenced by MC vocally. But to compare the two as if they're in someway equal is borderline disrepectful to MC in my opinion. Ariana's only been here 5 minutes and no doubt will go down as a fantastic singer - MC has been slaying for 20+ years and will go down as one of the greatest vocalists male or female to stand behind a microphone - huge difference. Not even trying to throw shade here.

      I think the main problem is that people even compare artists to other artists at all. No one is ever going to be Beyonce because she is her. No one is ever going to be the next Brian McKnight because he is him. Even though they can each be out into a voice classification, they will still sound different with different abilities and different flaws and different positive traits to their voice. Let artists be themselves and sound like themselves, then decide if you like that sound or not and keep it moving. So many people are annoying when it comes to wanting to compare one singer to another. (Not you ladies specifically, I mean in general.)

    Mariah and Ariana may have a similar singing style, and is very clear Ariana was inspired by her singing even at some point in her career maybe tried to copy it (not anymore) however when it comes to juice of it Mariah is a far superior vocalist (she writes and produces her music so she makes her songs to her skill and Taylor's them perfectly knowing her abilities) sadly her latest inconsistencies due to nodules give her a bad rep but up to this day when we'll rested she is one of the best. At Ariana age she was unstoppable. Mariah is a far superior user of the whistle register is not just about having it is how you use it and she can even enunciated up there whilst Ariana sometimes feels like she is not saying anything when mixing because of her unbalanced mix. Lower notes of course is Mariah's natural area, she is an alto and has a wider range but that's out of Ari's hands and she actually does a great job most of the time down there. But Mariah's mellisma, runs, riffs are very crisp and she can use her entire range with so much ease, she can riff anywhere and transition between chest to whistle in the space of a letter, to be honest I have never seen anybody do that, plus her entire repertoire is a killer. There is no easy Mariah Carey song, even dumb song like Touch my body are not piece of cake. Ari is amazing, probably one of the best right now and she will develop more in the next years so we're excited to see what happens but credit is due to Mariah Carey, up to this day not many can even come close to her vocal prowess in the 90s and even today at her 50s singing songs she wrote at 16

    Some unpopular opinions:
    - Ariana’s note in God Is a Woman is NOT a whistle, it’s only a high falsetto. Now, in her song “my hair” (for her new album) she did sang a whole chorus in whistle
    - Katy Perry can be resonant, her belts might be not supported, but sometimes they are resonant. Notes like Bb5 or C#5 she can totally belt with resonant.
    - Madonna and Britney are bad singers BUT, it’s not fair comparing them to other artists. They are not know for having a good voice, but for being unique. Madonna is Madonna, not for amazing singing skills, but for her creativity, her writing ability and for being controversial. Britney is known for having a different voice, and her amazing dancing skills and basically being THE princess of pop. U can’t comparing them to Mariah or Christina using the argument “but they are better singers”
    - Mariah might not be consistent vocally like ariana, but in some eras she can sound consistent. Example: during the whole 2019 Christmas tour, she was very consistent vocally, not dodging notes she usually dodges, singing high notes she usually don’t sing, walking around the stage BY HERSELF (something she rarely does).

    I think the point made in the Mariah/Ariana comparison section is the real truth. The age of icons (for the moment) is over. Artists these days don't have musicianship and artistry. Not only could Whitney and Mariah sing, they literally started the game as icons on the way to becoming legends (an era of Michael, Prince Madonna, George, Freddy to name a few) They are from an era where music in general was better, and lyricism was a thing. Now it takes 15 people to write a basic song we are in an era where a singular person could write/produce a song (Babyface, R-Kelly, Diane Warren, Linda Perry)
    This video was interesting as i had never heard of any of these comparisons, and the ones i had were due to time they debut.

Many artists have hits... like Jennifer Lopez that overtime are remembered as nostalgia, this is the type of artist Ariana is. Where is Ariana's classic song? Where is her crazy in love? Mariah can never be touched. She was a game changer. No one sang whistle notes, that’s why the 90s comparisons for whistle notes aren’t relevant because it wasn’t a thing yet outside of opera. It wasn’t in pop music, R&B or gospel. Mariah changed the game, her runs are goals for almost all singers, and her range is still to be achieved by a female. Then there’s her success as a writer and performer. An entire decade of #1 hits every year that she wrote and performed herself. The most record sales of any female artist in history (before streams). I just really don’t think anyone can ever have the longevity or skill like Mariah had. And she’s still coming out with new stuff and performing.
    Also, where is Jessie J in this list? She is compared a lot with Whitney (vocally) and Christina Aguilera.

      No one sang whistle notes? Mariah was the only one? Really? Oh, so you have never heard of Minnie Riperton? Look her up. Minnie makes Mariah sound like an amature. You are right when you said no one sang whistle notes, because that is all Mariah could do - whistle notes. Minnie could sing words, sing lines in whistle register. Mariah was not a game changer. She gave people a watered down version of what Minnie was doing decades before.
      As for her entire decade of no1's, she was married to the CEO of sony. If you knew anything about music sales and charts, you would know that it was MC's husband that was the reason MC had those no1's, not because of Mariah. Look at Mariah's charting success (flops) outside America, on world charts and major markets like the UK, Mariah was not that successful. Mariah was successful in America yes (thanks to her husband), but outside America, in countries across the world, not as much.
      I will admit Mariah has one of the best female vocals of all time, but so did Whitney. I guess who is better is down to personal opinion. While there are areas of differences due to opinion, there are some things that are facts - whistle was done by Minnie on pop charts decades before Mariah and MC's no.1's are because MC married the CEO of sony.
      And 1 other fact you got wrong, the most record sales of any female artist in history (before streams) is Madonna, NOT Mariah. Facts are facts.
      Final fact - Mariah is fu*king amazing, has achieved so much and is one of the greatest female vocalists of all time.

The guy that signed her at Jive Records stated she sang a Toni Braxton and Whitney Houston songs acapella. Then they signed her, do you know how ballsy it must be to cover these kind of women acapella at 15? That tells me that Britney must have way more vocal ability than the public is aware of. I wish we got to hear that, we hear bits and pieces of it throughout her career. But never full on , which is just sad. The baby voice is what she's known for unfortunately. With the exception of some comparisons that don't add up eg. Beyonce and Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, Tinashe and Kehlani (she sounds more like Camila Cabello but a better vocalist), most if these are influenced by the person they are compared to so there are some similarities in certain approaches but differences in strengths and way they utilize their voices:
    Normani --> Beyonce
    Jennifer Hudson --> Whitney
    Demi Lovato --> Christina Aguilera
    Ariana Grande --> Mariah Carey
    P.S. Many if the vocal classifications were right. The only ones that needed tweaking:
    Jennifer Hudson - Spinto Soprano
    Normani - Light Lyric Soprano
    Katy Perry - Lyric Soprano (Full Lyric Soprano)
    Mariah Carey - Lighy Lyric Soprano (arguably a Lyric Coloratura Soprano).

      @@Supcharged Yes, Opera singers are extensively trained however at the end of the day, they still have human voices just like pop/mainstream singers.
      I can't speak for all of us, but for some of us, we classify pop/mainstream vocalists under vocal fach by analyzing their tessitura, timbre, passagi (+ inherent strengths, weaknesses etc.) then assessing how that voice would sound if it was trained to an optimal level and even singing Opera.
      I get what you mean though however if we stick to that standard, quite a number of those classifications wouldn't have to be left out because many pop singers haven't displayed certain requirements yet. Eg. Are Taylor Swift, Halsey, Lauren etc. not Light Lyric Sopranos because they can't hit Soprano C's in modal voice effortlessly?

I’m not throwing a dig at Mariah at all, just that I haven’t heard much if any proficient use of ornaments from her in that range (however her whistle is very impressive eg. the trill she did in 2003)

She is the most agaile pop singer in history. Hence the term coloratura. However comparing pop singers to opera singers with coloratura arias is nowhere legit.

    Sorry but comparing anyone to Beyoncé is an insult. She's been vocally training with technique and hustling since she was a little girl. She's just worked too hard be compared to anyone.

    Glad you put Britney's original voice in and gave it the praise it deserves, a lot of people assume she doesn't have talent , when in fact she's a great dancer with a pretty good voice it's just that a good voice isn't marketable if it isn't unique hence the baby voice

    One thing I notice with these modern singers is that they all sound so similar. I don't know if it's their pronounciation or what but there's something unoriginal about them, even if they have great range/technique. The only people I think stand out from this, that I can think of, are Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey Florence Welch, Amy Lee, Aurora- they have quite unique sounding voices, even if some of them aren't brilliant vocalists.
