I stand in front of my closet after a hard days work and strip off sweaty clothes. Softly toss them into the hamper as I nakedly stroll down the hallway to the kitchen where a cold one awaits. I catch myself looking at my nephews drawing that I hung on the fridge last fall. It’s a stick figure of him and I standing on the grass in the light of an 8-armed vishnu sun. The left side of my mouth raises softly toward the ceiling as I crack open the fridge and reach toward the back for the cold Sapporo. Half empty kombucha and thai leftovers are all that stands in my way. *ssscrack* goes the silver can with strange language adorned as the contents drift towards my afternoon nostrils and follows me into the steamy bathroom. I flick the exhaust fan as the steam quickly fills the air. “Sunset Canyon” is the first tune to come on as I crank the shower speaker. The hot water sprinkles and flows across the tile as I slip thru the curtain. The cold can and hot hydrogen create a wonderful balance. I point the water beam towards the middle of the tub, seal the curtain to the tile so no sweet water can escape, and feel my tired back slip down the cold tile as the soft guitar and noisey rain overtakes me. I think about a girl that likes me as the hot water warms my overworked creaky bones. We were supposed to kiss tonight. But as of right now the first kiss will happen tomorrow night. The song plays and I envision us holding each other in this shower as the vocals lift us up together out of our complacency. We might fall in love one day. For now I will just sit in this hot shower with a cool buzz, cold can sitting in the dry corner, and wonder what the near future has in store for me. I am relaxed. I am calm. The hot water is never ending. The exhaust fan ready to spin my day dreams away for what seems like years to come. But the shower only lasts until the album ends. Then I get out, wipe my wet face, and see I have a new text from that girl.
