Feel like Snnuy should've mentioned, you rarely actually want to draw Elder Dragon. Most of its power comes from its Origin.
I mean we don’t know when this was recorded, cuz that first week was sort of “holy shit I can play elder dragon” and now it’s “this Nora deck can run even more disgusting things in it.
@@benjaminehren7965 I honestly believe post Worlds Elder Dragons region is going to get nerfed hard. Yhe fact it has like an 80% representation in lineups along with the fact the decks thst include it only do so for its region means it will likely get hit. The region is like a problem when it includes like 35% of the entire unit pool and its the strongest 35%.
yes, but also sometimes a level 1 Eddie is a huge threat too. because it plays every boon on itself, it's a 13/13 with fury, tough, fearsome, 2 impact, challenger and deathless that heals your board and nexus 2.
@@atoucangirlalso in some deck, it can get discounted by that 6mana dragon and can be played as early as 8 mana.
@@benjaminehren7965 Neddie decks took like a week to get made and snunny says "3 days into the expansion" in this video. So yeah this looks like it was recorded before people realized broadmane cost 6.
The problem with discarding a lvl 2 Elder Dragon is that champions only level up on the board. So unless you purposely deleted your own Elder Dragon, you would always have either a Lvl 1 Elder Dragon, which can be stopped, or his Champion Spell, which also can be stopped, in hand.

I just want to add, you can create Ephemeral copies of the Elder Dragon AND THEY WON'T DIE. It's so fun to make a massive overkill with that... Truly a "fuck you" card.

Fun fact about Elder Dragon it was in 57 of the 192 decks brought to Worlds, that is a 29% almost 30% carry rate for this champion going into worlds. The card is incredibly powerful, and not even because of her level up, the flexibility of her origin makes for some strong Bandle City Decks funnily enough.
since players cannot bring a champion more than once in their lineup it means that 57 out of 64 players brought it so its even more insane

Elder Dragon is also usually only played as a 1 of in most of his decks because the main reason you're playing Eddie is A) for his region which is actually insane because there's so many 6+ cost cards you'd probably play even if you didn't get the boons then the boons are also on top of that in addition they are Elemental Skill effects which also have synergies themselves and B) to just drop when he's flipped as a super late game win condition.
Fun fact about Mordekaiser: there is actually a couple of ways to make him go infinite. That his ability to resummon units multiple times a turn is bound to produce some nonsense eventually. ^^
I've actually done that with path of champions. Having multiple mordekaisers out and the deathless guy that burns the Nexus when it dies goes infinite with realm of death. Granted it's a win more combo but it's still funny to see
@@Generalizedfeelings All you need is the wird 1/1 that gives you a copy in hand when you slay it and the noxus landmark that makes everything cheaper but deals 2 to any unit you play. You can loop the 1 drop infinitly.
The line about going to your opponent's house and disconnecting their internet was just amazing.
Well Elder dragon was a wincon in the first three days but now the way he's played is for only one reason that is not himself but his region instead(which is why you only put him as a one of), being able to put any 6+ cost unit in a deck is actually very strong.
His stronger deck rn is a control Bandle city paired with Norra (which is like one of the stronger champ ever, she just gives free unit) and you can add Gnar but not necessarly and you just play a bunch of cheap ping spells and some insane 6+ units.
And to demonstrate how Elder's origin is impactful in the mix, the key units are
1 noxus (3 copy)
1PnZ (3 copy)
1Ionia (2 copy)
2Bilgewater (2 copy each (yes you can argue 3 for Burblefish))
The elder dragon shyvana dragon (arguably just slightly worse) can actually level him somewhat consistently but i get the point your making.
I'm surprised Rarran didn't say how Elder Dragon is like Genn and Baku where you just have this effect at the start of the game you get a permanent bonus where all of your 6+ cost units get buffs

Aloof Travelers would never interact with Elder Dragon's ability anyway: Elder Dragon cannot be level 2 unless he's on the board, which means any additional copies in hand will transform into his champion spell.
You could generate him through Secret Keeper, which put him into your deck already leveled
@@petross8083 But that would require Secret Keeper and if you are facing a Level 2 Elder Dragon generated by Secret Keeper, you have bigger things to worry about.
Getting really specific here but you can obliterate your own level 2 elder dragon by playing a unit on a full board. This would allow a second elder in hand. Obviously would never happen though

Rarran idk if you’ll read this but in case you do, the reason morde is different from viego is that until viego levels he’s honestly only slightly better than a vanilla minion with a once per turn summon effect, morde on the other hand is an engine for his deck that on play uses his own revive effect twice, he’s really good, also he has a good health stat so it’s a decently healthy engine
the elder dragon in magic terms has protection from everything indestructible and hexproof
More than that, actually. A lot more. Also can’t leave the battlefield, can’t lose its abilities, can’t have its stats reduced, can’t be prevented from attacking.

It might matter if you have 10 cards in hand, both players are at 1, you have two chemtech drakes and the opponent has elder dragon. You can play flash freeze targeting the elder dragon, winning the game.

Basically Mordekaiser is good old Kel'Thuzad on steroids, cause you can revive it the moment it dies. If a card like this would enter Hearthstone and entered Neutral or Warlock or Death Knight... Leper Gnome + This + Corpse Explosion/Defile.

I think you explained morde wrong to rarran, because you said it procs only in attack I think he thought that the drain procs only on attack
Morde makes Battlecry minions now have Deathrattle for the same effect and gives them reborn (except they come back at full health)

I think most people don't understand when they first read Morde's aura effect all that it enables, and as a second layer even if they think of that they think 'oh well surely it doesn't work like that, that would be ridiculous' but like, yeah. It IS that, and it IS ridiculous. Full health heal. Full re-summon effects. Transforms every one of SI's 'kill a unit for a great effect' into 'fully heal and activate summon effects of your units AND get a great effect'. Resummon your entire board unilaterally. Combined with new deathless keyword where you just double or triple units again and again. If Morde lvl 1 was 'slay two units then revive them' and his level 2 was literally just his level 1 without even involving the drain shenanigans he would still see solid play. Absolutely nutso card

So, one of my favorite things about Elder Dragon is that he has an insane animation when he smashs Nexus.

Fun fact! you actually can win once elder dragon level 2 drops. Fast/Burst speed direct damage on the enemy nexus and also having your nexus have more than 30 health can delay the win a turn.

this kind of content is pretty fun, but, i would love if you did it more with mtg! seeing people try and evaluate some old weird cards that nobody expects to be good, like painters servant, is so satisfying
Painter’s Servant isn’t a great example because it’s exclusively played because it enables a combo.
havent been on runeterra for a while, morgana and mord are fucking PEAK design (lore wise) I was unusre how theyd impliment either into the game and both are BANGIN, such fkn cool sht. Elder is crazy fkn cool, even if elder in game is... its a thing that teams do sometimes (sometimes even trade elder for nexus)
Edit: also my gut reaction with mord was "oh shit that stacks up, you can run it with (name forgotten) that doubles the attack activation, or free attack cards like his champion spell or other options like hte noxus landmark/etc, and soon you can empty an enemy nexus from full to 0 within a few attacks even if nothing hits AND it gives you survivability" probably too slow to actually do that but eh

I feel like if you show any MTG player Morde they will instantly know it's playable. It shares to many similarities with cards like Astra slide, momentary blink and Revelark all of which have been their own decks and have all been strong at some point. The ability to abuse enter the battle field and leave the battlefield effects is just to good.
Has anyone tried Morde/Thresh? I feel like reviving Thresh to pull another Maorde out of the deck could be very fun to escalate the drain effect. Maybe not optimal usage, but very silly.

the only way to survive the Elden Dragon attack is to hand/deckbuff Gorolith, a card that swaps health with your nexus on play, giving you potentially more than 30 health.

ED has to be the champion with the strongest origin in the game, the others feel more like restrictions, but no in the case of ED, at first I tough it was limited to dragons (which would still allow you to play so much stuff across regions) but nope, you can literally play any unit 6+ in that deck, I only played 3 variations of it so far (not enough resources for more) but they all feel so different, unique and powerful, thought not gonna lie it feels like he needs a nerf I just don't know how they gonna do it...

I feel a little gaslit about Elder Dragon right now, because just last night I was playing some ED in Path of Champions and I had the chance to level it up with just challengers and solo attack with Level 2 ED next turn, and I swear the opponent just chump blocked me...

Yes you can,even though its dumb to do it(like you have to be with a full board and then play another card to replace your own elder dragon)

No. Primordial Roar exists only as a Champion spell. It's not a deckable card.
Funnilly enough, I have a combo deck with aloof travelers and elder dragons do not have a good match against it.

It started to drop very early to be fair when every stopped playing meme decks, ED/Voli was to slow and greedy even with pre nerf heisho

Morde in league is green because he was originally a SI champ before his VGU. The blue makes him more distinct from SI as he isn't from their anymore

Spiralling out of control eh ? IDK man, a lot of the card from the first set is still playable at least, and meta threat that they have to be rotated at most. Also, power creep don't hit as hard as your game do, because unlike pack opening and praying we get a high rarity card, most of the the best cards are common.
