Another of me playing the fine Compton organ at All Saints Church in Ilkley, West Yorkshire.
Being in Ilkley, there was simply one song I HAD to play and here it is - 'On Ilkley Moor Baht'at' which is also known as 'On Ilkla Moor Baht'at'. It is also known as the hymn tune 'Cranbrook'.
Many thanks to the church officials for allowing me access to this wonderful Compton organ.
REQUEST: I am always on the lookout for Compton organs to play - particularly electrones - so if you know of any churches which still have these then please do let me know. I will happily give a donation or pay any applicable room hire charge.
Excellent Chris. I have played this Compton three manual organ many times over the years, including playing it for a service. Great to hear this instrument again. Some of my family are from Ilkley and still live there. Best wishes, Daryl.
Many years we had a Fire Service chaplain who had us singing while Shepherds watched this rather than Lyngham .
Both Compton organ videos at Ilkley are awesome dude. I have an immense passion for organs. Have you ever thought about visiting the US and playing some of our organs over here? What Compton did in England reminds me in a way of Kimball and Kilgen in the United States and how both got into the Church and Theatre organ business. Plus Kimball made fine pianos as well.
Bostin, mate!
It was a hymn tune before it became associated with these words - and do you remember you playing it and we sang, 'Jesus, the name high over all', to it at Garth's leaving 'do' at Brockma?
