  • A nice autumn project freeze drying apples. I used my medium Harvest Right Freeze Dryer to Freeze Dry several types of apples.

If you don't like the flavor lemon juice try covering your apples with soda water. It prevents browning and doesn't add flavor. Works great for banana slices.

I put water in a bowl and squeeze a little bit of lemon juice in the water. That works for me.

Great video ❤ ! Thank you. My last batch of apples, I had some left over pineapple juice and briefly soaked them. It is my new favorite way!

Why does none show the settings... I need to know the settings...

I used factory settings 125 degrees F drying temp. And I add 2 hours extra dry time at the beginning. (You probably already know but these settings are found when you click the leaf icon before the cycle is started.) Does that answer your question?

When I peel and chunk apples for applesauce I put some water in my bowl and add a couple of tsp of lemon juice. I add more water and lemon as I peel if needed. When I am all done I just drain and start cooking. I just got my freeze dryer and have not tried it yet.

Sounds like an efficient way to FD and applesauce at once. The FD apples are super tasty. Thanks for watching!

We starting off peeling our apples, but we have since stopped because it's lots of extra work, and we ran a few with peels and the peels didn't bother us. Can't even really tell it is there. I use Ball fruit fresh, and dunk them immediately, that does help, I've done salt baths as well and I'm sure a lemon bath would work well too. Something where they can be submerged to prevent the oxygen even being able to discolor them.

My grand kids love my lemon apples and bananas. I just pour a cup or better of lemon juice into a bowl and drown the slices in the juice and put on the tray with out removing the extra juice. plus if you have done a batch of onions or garlic before, the lemon juice helps remove the smell from the freeze drier.

Hi Gern! Thanks for watching. Thanks for tip on the lemon juice removing the onion smell. I would love to do onions and garlic in the near future but have not attempted to yet!

@@growingoutsidethebox Use lemons from a whole foods store cut into rounds and freeze dry. Lemons from sams club must have some kind of additive and they will go bad. My daughter then powders them and uses the powder in smoothies and to flavor water. Powder the garlic but use sparingly it is much more potent

Does your clamp at the base of your peeler not secure it to the countertop when pulled over 180 degrees?

Unfortunately, it was a suction cup not a clamp. I've since gotten rid of it.

Also, you freeze them BEFORE putting in the freeze dryer?

  • @Shanmammy

When I tried it I extended the drying three times and never could get it dry. What am I doing wrong?

Hmm. I'm not sure. Do you have the dry time on the factory setting of 125 degrees F? You can check this by clicking the leaf icon on your home screen before the process starts. Other than that, I would say, in general fruit takes a long time. Perhaps your apples had a high sugar content?

So you make your own apple cider vinegar but you can’t squeeze a lemon? Lol

It's an Asian Pear, if you want to make money at this please do some research.
