Dust Off Ya Gunns & Peter DeFreitas, NRBC Reserve Champions

Everyone in the horse business knows that success in showing horses is wildly difficult. But finding consistent success with horses that you have bred, raised AND trained is nearly impossible.
The success that Peter DeFreitas enjoyed on Saturday night at the NRBC was a culmination of decades of hard work combined with generations of well-planned/thoughtful/clever breeding from Double Run Farm.
You may be more familiar with the name Double Run Farm, but through it Monica Watson has developed some of the most famous horses in the industry. Horses like Wimpy's Little Step and Wimpy's Little Chic were proudly raised on her farm in Leland, North Carolina. While she has celebrated their success with others, it is her own little dynamo, Dust Off Ya Gunns, that she has been able to enjoy most completely this season.
Dusty is made even more special as his dam, One Mighty Aphrodite, is also owned by Monica and was shown with great success by longtime in-house trainer, DeFreitas. Monica continues enjoying this special mare with each exceptional foal she produces.
The Reserve Champion award at such an event is a marker of the ongoing success of the Double Run Farm Program and DeFreitas Performance Horses. Peter is looking forward to the remaining years of Dusty’s Derby career and training more of the foals from Monica’s outstanding breeding program.
