I am surprised that as a Canadian, you identified Level 6 as the "Frozen" world, and not as the "Normal" world.
As a native Minnesotan, I agree.
As a frozen Canadian - can confirm it is normal. We sometimes change our manner of speaking to blend in - e.g., double double coffees at Tims translates to, "Coffee with two creams and two sugars".
He's not canadian though
@@jdhannan He most certainly is.

The trick with the A button will tremendously help me during my next playthrough.
hashah
finally be able to get past that dreaded pipe with the pirana plant in that difficult 1-1 level
The A button trick is the biggest secret who could have figured it out?
Me too. Wonder if the other buttons do something too...
When I was a little kid playing Super Mario Bros 1, the first time I found a water level I didn't know that you could press jump repeatedly to swim, so I got stuck at the first seaweed.
1:58 "No one finds Peach's joke at the end of the game funny" 💀
Time to be picky! :D
0:55 You actually don't need a specific amount of coins, just need to collect a minimum amount of coins for it to spawn.
1:56 7-Castle in All-Stars disagrees!
3:47 SMA4 disagrees!
For the record, I like these trivia videos :).
Cool
"Woohoo! Just what I needed!"
@@murphmariotwopointoh7714 I don't count that. Luigi says the exact words when he gets a powerup.
@@DavidRay39 Mario still talks though.
+Tompa a I agree too!
I've also been led to believe that Mario 3 came after Mario 2.
I thought it was a countdown, like first there's Mario 3, then Mario 2, then Mario 1, and finally Mario Kaboom.
@@pentelegomenon1175 Mario Kaboom comes after the castle at the end of Forest of Illusions in Super Mario World.
I mean it was almost the case. The Western version of Mario 2 came out only 2 weeks before Mario 3 did in Japan.
@@Krisipoke The Japanese release of that version of Mario 2 also came out after Super Mario World did, and is considered the "official" Mario 2 by Nintendo even in Japan, with Lost Levels being relegated to being considered a second quest by Nintendo rather than a proper Mario release
@@JacobNintendoNerd99 Yeah, it was released about a year before Mario All-Stars. Must have been a letdown for people who bought it considering a better version with 3 other games came out so close to it. :D
And while yes, it's considered to be a Mario game even there, it's still not their Mario 2. They still call the Lost Levels Mario 2, while our Mario 2 is Mario USA for them.
Very nice! I knew all of them expect for the "Pressing A will allow Mario to jump". Who knew?! That was a very well kept secret!
A comment about Super Mario World: at the time it was released, it was meant to showcase the powers of the SNES. A lot of stuff that seems standard today was amazing when it was released. When you play that first level and you see that screen-sized Banzai Bill? Amazing. Even little things that aren't used much in the game, like the reversible fences that you can climb on, seemed incredible. But now that both games have aged so that their technology is standard, SMB3's gameplay is a little stronger.
While back then i considered supermarioworld to be the best mario game above mario, but i conclude now that mario 3 just feels more darkish and more intense then mario world, yes you do have less freedom in mario 3 ,but it makes it feel more hellish.
@@johneygd I don't understand why think it's darker? I do like SMB3 better than SMW, but more hellish?
@@the-engneer it’s very hard to describe, for one thing the drums in the fortress and airships do feel very intimidating also that twomp sound from big hammerbrothers sounds very intimidating, also the used colorpallet with gloomy colors( no real yellow colors and the used green colors on the koopalings looks very gloomy as well and the blue sky in most levels don’t look overbrighted(!),)
And darkland really really feels very intimidating not only of it’s theme tune but those levels itself including those levels with those skeleton hands(are those hands from the devil?)
Also SMB3 feels more liniear then SMW since you cannot walk to and from a previous world, also mario in SMB looks gloomy and darkish with it’s black overall and red had among other things,
So that’s why the nes version of mario 3 feels so hellish,
Not the snes and GBA version since they both use waaay too much and waaay too much overbrighted colors along with waaay too much detailed backgrounds, also those used drums in those versions don’t feel intimidating, also it’s reply value has been deincreased since you can just save at certain points in those versions,so that’s why i prefer the nes version and i think the nes limitations did helped to make SMB3 giving that intimidating feel,
Same thing with contra on nes(despite being a port from the arcade version),but the used darkish colors, lack of scrolling backgrounds and used drums gives it that gloomy darkish flavor,so that’s why i prefer contra on nes over the overbrighted overdetailed arcade version.
@@johneygd I see your point now. The last world in SmB3 is very intimidating for sure.
Also I'm a huge fan of the old Contra games so I completely understand the comparison. That game is dark AF, but I love it. I also love Ghost and Goblins, so maybe I'm a bit of a masochist when it comes to video games.
Cool observation I've never really thought of, but I see it now that you bring it up. Strangely it makes me like SMB3 even more! It will always be my favorite Super Mario game regardless for too many reasons to explain. Really the only reason I play SMW at all still is because of the endless variety of hacks, and I also find myself wishing SMB3 got the same amount of attention, but at the same time I wonder if that would drain some of my love for it. Either way it's cool talking to someone with similar interests! Appreciate your well thought out comment explaining what you meant
@@johneygd I agree with you so much. Mario 3 has a kind of weird, dark vibe and SMW feels much more friendly and cute
When you beat the game and start over, you get a full inventory of P-Wings 🙂
That’s called NG+ or new game plus
@@Kirby5588 is it different in any way other than the P-Wings?
@@bradenadams7511 not that I recall.
I heard if you beat the game faster than anyone else, you have the world record.
What an amazing game that people are still passionate about finding out more even after 30 years.
Fun fact: _Mario 3_ was released in Japan the same month _Mario 2_ was released in North America. The games were only released 2 weeks apart from each other.
"Mario is red."
Colorblind people: wait, what?
Maybe Mario is wearing a technicolor dreamcoat, who's to say?
Wow, after all this time, I never put it together that any white block could be fallen behind on. I always just thought they were special blocks specifically chosen by the developers
I didn't know that either. I figured it out on my own recently, and I knew about the easter egg that references it in Super Mario Maker, but I didn't know that in SMB3 it was possible with more than just that one white block in 1-3.
@@matthewaaron2724 I _did_ know you could do it on other blocks than just 1-3. But as a kid, I tested out each block to figure that out. I didn't realize it just needed to be white 🤦🏻♂️
To be fair, there's only white blocks in 1-3, 3-9, 5-7 and 7-8. So it's pretty much just the ones chosen by the developers (which are then marked by making them white).
@@tokeivo Ah, that would explain it! If there's only white blocks in four levels, it makes sense I didn't even notice the ones after 1-3 for the longest time let alone thought to try to fall behind them.
I wonder if they changed the colors of the other white blocks in the remakes; I played the GBA version more often than the NES version in my childhood.
Combining the Tanooki Suit with the P Wing will let you fly with Tanooki suit forever very few people know that.
I had to look that up, because I tried that once, but the P-Wing cancelled out the Tanooki Suit and left me in regular raccoon form. Apparently, though, if you start a level with a P-Wing and collect a Tanooki Suit, then you can fly forever in Tanooki form (as long as you don't get hit, obviously). I'm gonna have to try that.
@@jamesrelich8210 6-2 is a good one for it.
You were incorrect about one thing.
I thought the princess's joke was hilarious as a kid (Mario 1 was my existence until then).
I still think it's pretty funny
Mario 3 is actually only 33 years old, at least until October
Sincerely,
Bitter aging person also born in 1988
Ok boomer
@@discotrain173 That hurted
As a person who was born roughly a week before this game was released, I can confidently say it is 33, not 34
I literally did not know about warping in the warp zone as a kid. I would always get the two whistles, beat world one, then warp to world 7 from world 2, then warp to world 8
Back in the 1990s I read an online guide that said to do that! Then the first TAS showed everyone how it's done. (But I might have read what worlds go to what warp zones in a better guide first.)
I figured it out because I was dumb. Once I got the two whistles and tried to use a fire flower for the air ship but used the whistle instead; while on the warp zone I tried to "revert" it, I thought "maybe another use will take me back", but nope, world 8. It was sad
@@enriquecastaneda307 lol nice
Speaking of being dumb, we had gotten to bowser with an extra whistle in our inventory, and accidentally used it. Brought back to the beginning of world 8 with nothing competed
The speed run I did was clear world 1 and 2 you need the judgems cloud to skip a dark world level. Then warp from 3 to 567 then whistle to go to 8. You can do everything in the dark world with a limited invintorybans the hand levels will power you up.
Once In the dark world 3rd beat level 1 and use the owing on level 2 and then the cloud to skip the castle and then use the pipe to change maps once your on Bowser's castle map you'll reset to the pipe if you die . The rest can be beaten normally .
Takes about a half hour or so like this if your practiced.
You can't go in an up pipe with a star as big Mario because of the spinny jump. With a p speed jump you are able to go in an up pipe with a star
3:54 I *ACTUALLY* think Mario 3 is better than Mario World, all things considered. BOOM!
All that time waisted as a kid trying to force the hand stages for the leaf and I just had to push a button. Knew all the others, so pretty accurate on the things that I MUST know.
Yaaa.
These scarcely-known facts are why you're the Resident Super Mario Bros. 3 Expert(tm). I thought the A button was to make the world fall from under your feet and then rise back up!
I laugh at Peach's joke.
Am I still human?
You're technically a member of the human race, but you won't be invited to any of the meetings.
You must be the "no one" he's talking about. I mean, it's pretty much in your name.
Oh wow, I never realized Mario was in this game.
It's easy to mistake him for fireflower Luigi
i died at "World 8 has Bowser" 😱😵
I like how some of these are very basic info (often to a very joking degree), and some of them are more interesting bits of trivia.
YESSSS thank you for making another one of these
I’ve been looking for Yoshi for 34 years just to find out from this CZcams video he isn’t in the game.
Some things about Smb3 PAL version.
1. Speed is obiviously different, but interestingly it affects Mario's jump length. Because of that it's in a way pretty different smb3 to play.
2. Toad house text comes in nice rhythmic way compared to NTSC smb3.
3. 7-1 wrong warp cannot be excecuted.
Also Bowser's note at the end of World 7 will be signed "Koopa Troopa."
Peach's joke is hilarious. How dare you.
"Bowsers lower half will not damage you"
Good, cause that's the half Im into ❤❤
The whistle in warp world trick I never knew as a kid. I always had to finish World 1 in order to warp to World 8.
Neat analysis video! I think I didn't know some of these!
The whistle sound can be found in zelda oot in the title theme
If you have a P wing, and are in water when you get hit, you can grab another leaf while you are in the water, and your P wing effect will remain active unless you exit the water before gaining a new leaf. I accidentally learned this in the first fortress of World 3. You can also swap to a tanooki suit on the stages that have one during the level when using a P wing, and it keeps working for rest of the stage as the ultimate power up heh.
I laugh at peaches joke EVERY TIME
I actually didn't know that Level 4 was supposed to be a turtle.
As the player that is not playing, if the other player scrolls over your tile, you can press A to suck them into the battle game for control over cards and current turn. If you are fast enough and brutal enough, you can completely lock out the other player.
> Mario 3 came out October 23, 1988
> Mario 3 is 34 years old
🤔🤔🤔 It doesn't even round up to 34 yet!!
Mario 3 is the "we live on a simulation" argument state
Straight to the point, got right into it, no bs or annoying fluff. I dig it. I could not sub harder or faster. 3 thumbs way up. 👍👍👍
Yoshi is in the game but he's not playable. One of the kings is turned into a yoshi
3:01 Game came out in 1988 in Japan. The year I was born. Came out a few weeks just before me.
I had to rewatch several times "there is no pow other than the battle game". I just sat there going....."what are you talking about!" Then I remembered that I was wearing a frog suit and it all started to make sense.
It’s called Kuribo’s shoe not Goomba shoe. As per the letter from the princess. Even if she gives you something else by accident.
3:34 is your score bar some sort of a debugging tool or something i find it pretty strange how it does that in some of your smb3 clips
I believe it's a ROM specifically designed for speedrunners so they know their exact frame data. I could be mistaken, though.
@@the2ndsaint thanks
Didn’t know about de A button secret, really cool indeed!
Not only is Mario 3 just a play, but Mario 2 was just a dream.
Wrong, at the time of this vídeo debut, Mario 3 is 33 years old
You make a good point
Mitch, I agree at the end! Smb3 > Smw
Super Mario World was a tech demo for Snes that happened to be a good mario game also.
Super Mario Bros. 2 released in North America 2 weeks before Super Mario Bros. 3 released in Japan.
Oh wow. I was barely a week old when smb2 released in North America
Let's see...
Protoman is not a playable character in this game.
There is an enemy called "Bowser". He is very dangerous.
Sometimes there are items hiding in bricks. You need to jump on top of them to get them.
Captain Kirk is not a playable character in this game either.
It's easy to win the battle stages if no one is holding the other controller.
Mario has the power to go super Saiyan in this game. Luigi does not; to make up for it, he has a cooler mustache.
Knuckles is most definitely not a playable character.
0:03 WAIT REALLY!? But I thought he was green.
You forgot "never play this game with your younger brother who is bad at videogames; he will take every toad house, match game, and flip game, and then when he gets a game over and you still have all 3 lives, your grandparents will make you restart because he's not getting a turn."
I knew most of these including the two Bowser battles. Isn't there a difference between them? I seem to remember different ways to access the other one without flying.
"Nobody finds peaches joke at the end of the game funny." I remember reaching that as a kid and being super pissed off as I was reading it.
There are only two hammer brothers sets in World 2. The third set of brothers don’t throw hammers.
Correct. Third set is Fire Bros.
HEY
LISTEN
You can hold B to run!
i think might forgot there are 3 whistle in total in the game the last one can be found in a very well hidden secret on world 2
True or false: The P-switch lasts for the exact same amount of time as a star in SMB3.
(I actually don't know the answer to this. I can't find out for myself because my GameBoy Advance no longer works properly with this game.)
I still love this game and Super Mario World - even years later!
Entering the hand stages manually, never knew that!!
So both the Any% TAS and the 100% TAS get No Hands, really, because it's faster to not have a hand animation!
Mario talks in many games, and in every TV show and movie that he's in. He also arguably talks in Super Mario Bros. 3, since the manual starts with a message from Mario to the player and it's all in quotation marks, so he did speak this message, he did not write it down.
For a moment I thought this was the april 1st video lol. Some of those were a bit of nice trivia though.
Probably beaten it dozens of times and never noticed world seven was shaped like pipes...
When the wand falls after a boss battle on the air ships, repeatedly run and jump beneath it back and forth without touching it. There is a way to get the wand to land diagonally. Not sure if it is glitch or intentional.
Hmm... If this is a thing, that's the first time I hear about it. You have a video or similar of it?
@@TompaA no but I could try to recreate it. I did it several times when I was a child. It was tricky to pull off but you'd have to repeatedly run back and forth while jumping under the wand. I could give it an attempt in an emulator perhaps.
@@TompaA I had tried to find any mention of it on the internet recently with no luck and started trying to see if it was in any CZcams videos of Mario 3 secrets/glitches but no mention and in other videos of boss battles/playthroughs, everyone just tries to grab the wand in the air. I got it to work at least three times or more when I was about 11 and 12 years old. As that falls and bounces or whatever it does (I forget if the wand bounces but will have to go play today to see), you'd have to run back and forth jumping directly under it while narrowly missing catching it. It usually wouldn't work but once in a lot of tries, when it lands, it'd be diagonally positioned on the ground facing right. It was odd. Probably a weird glitch. Maybe undocumented? I dunno.
I never realised world 7 is shaped like 3 pipes!!!
You forgot to mention that in the original Mario 3, all tiles and sprites are 8-bit.
I'm addicted to this series lol
The warp zone looks wrong. Where did those vertical paths come from? Was this a later revision or something?
It's a custom rom, probably for playtesting
When there is only 1 hammer bro on the map you can end a level with coins being divisible by 11 and that number matching the tens slot of your score. IE 99 and 9. P wing and then getting a tanooki suit is tanoopi
You missed one. The world 3 theme is the original version of the great fairy fountain theme from Zelda.
World 3 castle islands are shaped like Japan... and the castle is placed just about where Nintendo headquarters is: in Kyoto.
Ngl that ending got me xD
I didn't notice World 4 was a turtle.
World 8 is a skeleton. First part is the skull. Second part is the chest or heart. Third part is the stomach full of skulls. Fourth part is the legs.
The sky is blue, Mario is a male, Bowser has spikes, peach blinks both her eyes, this is an nes game, you can run in this game, you can jump in this game. There, that's 50.
I need to know, what does the anchor level do? Cool video :)
It prevents the airship from flying off to some random location on the map if you die on the airship itself.
@@jtrevor99 oh thats cool, do you also know how it couldve been obtained?
The only place you can get them is in the white mushroom house in the even numbered worlds (2, 4, and 6). You will have to look up how to get those to appear - you must get a certain number of coins on specific levels but I have forgotten which ones.
@@jtrevor99 Ah I see, again thank you so much!

3:50 - February 12, 1990 - February 12, 2022. 32 years ago, today.
3:53 you scared me there for a sec
0:44 whats the deal with the 2 bowser rooms?
What happens if you play all the timeflutes tho?
"There is an anchor." Mitch! What does it do.
Normally, if you play an Airship level and die partway through, the Airship will troll you by flying off to a different part of the map, so you have to chase it down to get another chance at clearing the level. This can be especially bad if the Airship stops behind a level you skipped on your way to the castle.
The Anchor, like the Music Box, is an item that can only be used on the world map and only affects the world map. If you use the Anchor, and then die in the Airship, the Airship will stay right where it is. It won't be able to move.
@@CosmicPlatonix Really? I never knew that.
Thanks
this went from "yeah no shit" to "DAMN i legit didn't know that!"
It was featured in the movie The Wizard.
World 7 is shaped like pipes. 🤯🤯 How did I never realized that!
Fortunately I know all these.
I do have a bias for SMB3 over SMW too so yeah.
I didn't even know there were White Toad Houses in this game, all I knew of was the Treasure Ship.
I think I get the title because yes you must know these because almost every fact you stated I already knew and have known since I played the game with a child in the 90s
i knew 49 of these already the only one i didnt know was there being 2 bowser battles
So the spiral castle is essentially a giant warp pipe with enemies?
You forgot about the suspicously shaped rail formation for the moving platforms (I forget which stage)
Fact #51 On Saturday is the epic Mario 3 Any % No Wrong Warp Battle Royal
There at 16 optional levels. Me an intellectual who skips them all with the warp whistle
I was born in October of 1988 and this video made me question my own age for a bit.
Pretty good. Could you talk about some speedrunning experience? like history or why some players retire, don't go full grind, or why even this is a NES game, you guys don't like to go hardcore in other NES games. I don't know, everything is cool, good content Mitch. Evertything here is for us to learn little bit more.
