I've said this many times and it's truly what I believe. When Ed left Skynyrd they lost part of the soul of their band. RIP Ed King.
I would have liked to hear another few albums with Steve Gaines
It's hard to hear 'the late' Ed King. I really miss him. He was truly one of the funkiest guitar players of the 4 that played with the original band. Wish this was in color so i could see 'ol red' in all her glory. I'm so honored to have Ed playing a guitar i built for him. One of my greatest claims to fame 🙂 .. Miss you brother. RIP .. i know your last few years were hard to endure but you took it like a man. Look forward to seeing you on the other side.
Jeff, Ed told me that Old Red was his second most favorite guitar (next to his Red Eye LP). I actually played Old Red twice in the green room before we went on. That guitar (if I liked strats) was incredible, but alas, I am stuck in Les Paul world ! Great job !!!
Just realized Ol Red had a Tele style head stock
Very cool👍🏻👍🏻🎶🎶
finally a whiskey rock a roller cover played correctly cause Eds playing it.....
EPcustom concrete works come on Ed king could barely play he left then came back playing bass and sucked Lynyrd Skynyrd in their prime when they had Ronnie Van Zant singing Garry Rossington Allan Collins and Steve Gains on guitars Leon wilkens on bass Billy Powell on piano and Artimus Pyle on drums that’s a band Ed king bob burns left for a reason
@@jacobstacy588 you don't even know the damned names of the band members..."Gains".... Leon Wilkens? Bwahahaha
Right on!
@@jacobstacy588 You're clueless dude. Ed started playing bass, then moved to guitar. Barely play? Please bitch, he WAS the best Skynyrd ever had.
@@kidnurnburg1361 wouldn't say he was the best, IDK why there always has to be a "best". A favorite maybe but some people eem to want to pit them against each other when all of them had their own style, their own sound, each unique, that's what made the 3 guitar army so great. I love them all, Ed was great but Steve was awesome as well. He could do it all but never got close to reaching his potential. Allen was a great guitar player & so much fun to watch, what a showman & Gary great as well, he had some great solos & loved his slide work. Just a great band all the way around, can we agree on that?
RIP Gary Rossington. They are all gone now, but thankfully Artimus Pyle is keeping the memory of RVZ and the ones that have gone before...Can't wait to hear the new APB cd that is being mastered now and will be an awesome tribute to Lynyrd Skynyrd. Even RVZ would be proud and saw awwww.....
RIP, Mr. King! Thank you for sharing your amazing gift!
Ed King is my favorite guitarist of/ LS, plus Art still slams the drums.
Allen Collins!!!
Gary rossington!!?
Ed was good, but all three were great👍
Seeing that smile on Ed's face made me smile ear to ear.
Ed could make it all look so easy he was always smooth as they come. Ed and Bob are giggin somewhere tonight.
There was more Lynyrd Skynyrd DNA on that stage than the band that calls itself Lynyrd Skynyrd. As much as I don't care for Pyle as a person, he was clearly their best drummer and Ed King was their best guitarist. Shout out to the girls, too (Leslie and Jo Jo).
Look I'm not an APyle fan but that quote him saying, "I play my instrument as well as they, (GR & BP) theres"; man, he wasn't lying. He IS on top of this take - you can tell he's actually waiting (ahead of) each note before it even get there & then smacks 'em on time. And those beatdown snare notes just nasty good.
I seen the original Skynyrd in April 77 at the old Charlotte Coloseum. This was only months before the crash. They were great! Good ole days!
You didn't see the original lynyrd skynyrd in 77 by that time 2 of the original members Ed King and Bob burns had left the band
Ed blew away all those Les Pauls with his Red Strat👍🏻👍🏻🎸🎸🎶🎶
RIP Ed😇🎶
Ed King possessed unbelievable talent. I would love to have heard Ed and Steve play together. Both took LS to another level.
Thanks Ed ,great Guitar Lesson, True to the Album.....But...The Live Winterland Recording REALLY shows what a Genius You Are.....Thanks Ed...
THE STRAWBERRY ALARM CLOCK VERSION SOUNDS GREAT!MISSED BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN,THE LATE GREAT ED KING !
I was lucky enough to have front row at the 87 reunion show at Market Square Arena in Indianapolis. When I saw Ed King play, I couldn't believe his soft touch and precision. I was a new player at the time, and he just blew me away.
Long Live Ed King & Artimus Pyle, this sounds Great, Keep on Rockin Guys, Cousin Figel
What a treat! Thanks Chris.some real Skynyrd!
This kid on vocals should thank his lucky stars he got to work with the late, great Ed King.
First time this was played right in years
ed king is the man !!
Gary rossington
Artimus has such a special groove on this tune.....only he can do it..
gsoltis29 He does, And I'm always arguing that point when they compare him to Bob Burns, Artimus brought so much to Lynyrd Skynyrd, Like I always say you have to be a true original Lynyrd Skynyrd fan to know that.
Both were great drummers. Each brought their own flavor to the band. There is no "best" drummer between the two of them; equally good in their own ways.
Had the pleasure of meeting him at the bike fest earlier this month he is a wonderful, talented kind soul!!! So thankful I got to talk to him he even signed my shirt and drum stick!
Yes Arti kicks it on this one. He was a perfect Bob replacement back in 74.
Bob was a lock into the groove guy and Artie is your bombastic arena drummer. Loved both of their playing on the albums.
Sounds real good to me. Ed King is one of my favorite guitarists, and thank you for posting this.
Fuck you 199
Fuck you _199
this is closer to skynyrd. Ed is the man
Leslie still looks fine. Love Ed, he's a true guitar man.
Leslie Hawkins is s freakin Goddess
Are you sure that's her?
Still sounds great in 2023!
God bless Ed King!
They have followed the true Skynyrd trail
Damn! Where has this been hiding?
You caught some bad ass music on video, long live that music and guys that make it !
cant beleive this got by me when they got this group together
glad you shared it on youtube. i am just now learning about how brilliant ed king was.
Ed RULES!
Ed was the best guitar player in Skynyrd
The singer fits this song nice..good job
Ed king my favourite guitarist sound good
damn, this is good...
The backup singing honey in the middle is smokin hot.
Oh lord yes... such a great job with this one, and what a way to start my Monday morning
Artimus the great !

Well boys you know how we feel im old drummer theses tunes where i learn my licks thanks for all the songs
❤ Skynyrd nation live's ❤
EK was such a monster player
Back in her day them other 2 backup singers are much jo jo still be owning it.
You can see most of the shows this band played by searching Ed King and Artimus Pyle on CZcams. The whole Raleigh NC show is online as well. Please enjoy.
The 👑 channeld the path and Gary and Allen stepped up their game!
Hey Jacob..just check the Song Credits Mr Ed King has written with Ronnie....You are Entitled to your Opinions Sir but Facts Are Facts.....I usually will not get into such ignorance but Mr Ed King was an very integral part of some of the best Southern Rock ever Recorded.....
Ol Arty still got it ain't ee. Ed, Jojo, Leslie, all sound good. Everyone does, I get it that the guy singing doesn't have the same type of voice as Ronnie, but I see what Ed was saying, he is singing the songs right, not just the lyrics, but the timing of them and the way you sang em.I believe that the survivers were having a blast from the past, and that's what counts to me, they gave for our enjoyment, and I think it's awesome to see theirs.
thank u ED 4 sharimg yer greatness wit all the world rip brother
Yeah, I always go back to the first 2 albums...... their best work
I Miss Ed and All the Boys.....
Rip ronnie ed and Allen
This had more Skynyrd members in it than the touring band did..ha
i count 4
matt lough hell yeah... 3 of these people were on the stage last couple years with the real deal... And then there's Ed. Love Ed too
I really like it!
Ed King man. As soon as he touches the strings. Music!
Ed King fans: check out his interview with Marty Swartz.
I was there, it was a great show, indeed.
Went backstage, met people, it was fun
Who is the rest of the band?
Ed King, Artimus Pyle, Thane Shearon, Leslie Hawkins.....
Great music
This group was amazing! Better than the current Lynyrd Skynyrd
R.I.P. Ed, thanks for all the memories, I never saw people crying when John Lennon died, but when the big plane crashed everyone was crying, I saw Skynyrd at Flint Michigan about a week before, snuck in a fifth of Jack Black
People surrounded the Dakota crying for days when Lennon died. If you ever go to Central park go by the Imagine memorial, there still crying.
I was watching MNF that night and all 3 announcers were choked up upon hearing Lennon was shot.
They got somebody that looks like Gary, and somebody that looks like Leslie Hawkins, and somebody that looks like Ed King. Wait, that IS Ed King! The great one.
Thanks Chris Rucker
country wants to emulate ..emulate dont fake..we all lost a cool brother that day never be another Ronnie Van Zandt..
Good singer
Blackberry Smoke does a faithful version somewhere here on YT
just saw Ed on an episode of "Moonshiners"... ol' Ed looks like he invested that skynyrd money wisely. The band always had a better sound w/ ED imo. RIP SKYNYRD.
t a: I agree! Skynyrd was at its very best with Ed King, Gary & Allen on guitar. No lineup ever sounded better. They also would never have risen to the level of greatness they achieved without Ed writing so many iconic licks in so many of their early songs! Steve Gaines was an extremely gifted guitarist and song writer but his influence, style & songwriting totally changed the "vibe" of the band. It was far too polished and commercial for me. I'll take the Ed King Skynyrd, myself. That was raw and unpolished and it was the complete embodiment of Southern Rock! Cheers!
RIP Ed.
Ed and Artimus’ playing is awesome as usual. For the lead vocal, a little less reverb is required. Good job though.
RIP Ed & JoJo
the honkets the one in the middle
Sounds great, Ed King hasn't lost it and nether has Artimus for that matter, and who is the female backup singer standing in the middle next to Jojo???
EDWARD CALHOUN KING !!!
i despise all the post plane crash skynyrd, but this is a rockin' version, even though this is post crash LS.
+t a I'm with you on that. JVZ ain't Ronnie, and Allen and Artimus were the energy that the the group never regained after the crash.
t a It's not Skynyrd it's the Artimus Pyle band
All the past skynyrd members on stage here playing this are pre crash......that's why it's good.
Rock on
What year was this performance from?
jack redemption 2005, just before Skynyrds hall of fame induction in 2006
How cool is Ed King?
when was this
Who's the back up singer in the middle?
the great ed king.what a great loss for skynyrd .they never sounded as good as with ed kin g.god bless him.
i miss Ronnie.
What is the singers name
That Blond honey in the middle is so fine...
This is the best Skynyrd version since the plane crash. The official Skynyrd band is (sorry) bad and does focus on doing a good show and not on playing great Music.
Ed King...great player but even greater person. Would have loved to seen him and Gaines together...not taking anything away from Collins and Rossington.
Good, but missing the piano.
What year was this performance?
2005
Mark Basile great job covering Gary’s parts!
Sure do miss Ed.
A fun take on Nuthin' Fancy's bestest track (well tied for anyway ... ;-)
The singer? Pitch and volume are two different things. Lol
the singer is the week link all else seams A+
Weak...... ;)
Actually Ed King was the one who requested Thane sing in the band. While there are a lot of Van Zant imitators, no one comes close to Ronnie, BUT, Ed King said that Thane sang with the same type of heart as Ronnie did, and frankly, I trusted Ed's judgment and having played in this band, have to agree with him.
Homie's vox sound more like Johnny Van Zant than Ronnie..
EK is a great player although the band did well with Steve Gaines after Ed's departure. Fun to watch this. Looks like Gary was deferring to Ed during the song like they were practicing in the Hell House and Gary was following his queues. Atriums is the real deal too.
Not Gary Rossington...
This band is better than that faux Skynyrd band that's been parading around for far too long. You have the ever amazing King, Artimus and even JoJo! Plus the lead singer is better than Johnny-by a mile.
oh yeah, another thing - when the band added female backup singers--that was the end for me. Great band, especially live, up until backup singers/street survivors. Street was a shitty record. The 75 lineup w/ ed king that i saw at the academy of music in NYC was as good as anything i've seen including floyd, zep, sabbath, etc.
Hi TA ... you got a point , but I loved Street Survivors ... Steve Gaines was just starting to pick up some momentum & really add to the band.
that's fine, i found street way too commercial-that album had no juice. JMO.
Thx, Greg...we can all agree we miss every incarnation of L.S.
I have to disagree. Street Survivors was their most musically complete album. Steve Gaines was coming into his own and the Honkettes are only on one song in the album.
^I disagree. While I was a fan of every single album including Street Survivors, their best songs were off their first two records. The band never topped the musical genius that they displayed on 'Pronounced' and 'Second Helping'.
sounds great bout the best you can get without Ronnie I guess
and i hate that the blonde dude -- ricky, is the face of what's left of skynyrd. he sucks. He preens and poses as if he was an original member.
Ricky Medlocke? He grew up with them and played guitar with Ronnie and Gary and Bob before LS. His grandfather inspired ballad of curtin leow.
He sings lead vocal on a couple of Skynyrd's early songs -- White Dove and The Season's. They're here on youtube. I'm pretty sure Medlocke was one of the early drummers.
I agree I'm not that big of a Ricky medlocke fan either. But u gotta respect him due to the fact he knew Rvz and the other guys when they where kids long before lynyrd skynyrd was invented.. Also into adulthood, he played drums for LS on one of there earliest ever album recordings. Muscle schoals I believe it was. But the album wasn't released until after the crash.
everyone has their opinion. Ricky M. is one of the best. Guess you don't know your southern rock history. Blackfoot Strikes album one of the best. This was after he let LS yo form that band. Before you speak know what you're talking about.
Way better than America's talent lol
This band died with Ronnie , sorry fellows
street survivors was elevator pop/ rock.
When asked about Street Survivors, Ronnie said. "our best work yet." I agree, but you have a right to your opinion.
