Bart the Mother could be considered the last "classic" episode. It has the traditional animation, a familiar classic era plot, Troy Mclure, and a subtle pre-jerkass Homer. It doesn't really feel like a middle season episode. When i watched it as a kid, i always associated to season 8 or 9.

I have to agree really, it was one of the last few episodes to really hit an earnest plotline. Maybe because it's the last episode George X Cohen wrote, along with one of the producers handing them a real life anecdote for story material. They do admittedly kinda handwave all the moral conflict in the end, and I think the tree lizards might have ended up a 'wacky plot shift' the upcoming seasons were known for, but for some reason the execution never felt bad, maybe because the whole thing still tied sincerely to Bart and Marge's relationship.

This is a pretty solid list. Like how Sunday Cruddy Sunday is your guilty pleasure episode, Viva Ned Flanders is mine. Homer had hardly ever tried to actually help Ned like this before, despite how hard he messes it up, and Ned’s character was in-check, even if his new age was a bit hard to justify (not so much anymore). And despite how weird the story gets, I felt like it was meant to sell that feeling of a night out in Vegas. Crap happened, we lost all our money, let’s never speak of this again. (Which is one reason why I dislike Brawl in the Family, it broke that feeling.)

I'm going to be that guy and say it.
I actually like the Kidney Episode. I know nowadays a lot of people hate it because it's Homer at his worst but while his actions are definitely reprehensible I still think it's fairly funny. The Ghost Town sequence is great and features a quote I use in my everyday (when the drunk falls into the water Lisa asks if someone should help him but Bart replies with "He knows what he's doing").
Homer running away on the operating table is terrible but it's clear he's not doing it for any spiteful or "jerk ass" reason. The guys at the bar scare the ever living shit out of him. He can't control himself. Yeah it's still terrible but there's a level of understanding there I think at least. And it's not like his behaviour goes unpunished. The entire episode and basically every character in it tells Homer how awful he is. He gets thrown overboard and crushed by a car just to end up with Grandpa surviving anyway.
It's obviously a flawed episode and might not even be in my top 10 either but I still get a lot of enjoyment out of it. Every scene has at least one good joke so I can look past it's not-great premise.

One of the most surreal and underrated gags has to be the model Bart in Lisa gets an A. Love how it shows up again later behind Martin for a split second, and it even works as a setup for the puppet Lisa at the end.

The 3 standouts of Season 10 on my recent rewatch were: Bart The Mother, Mayor’d To The Mob, and Wild Bart’s Can’t Be Broken.
Coming in at 4th was They Saved Lisa’s Brain.
Other favorites were: Lard Of The Dance, Wizard Of Evergreen, Lisa Gets An A, Viva Ned Flanders, and Maximum Homerdrive.
And ‘Make Room For Lisa’ barely eked out a win over Mom and Pop Art, And Bible Stories.

Sunday Cruddy Sunday feels so similar to Maximum Homerdrive that I can't believe they're from the same season. Both episodes involve Bart and Homer going off on a seemingly normal trip that goes off the rails in the third act, while Lisa and Marge stay at home and have a seemingly boring subplot that gets weird. In both cases, I find the Marge/Lisa bits funnier. Come on, who doesn't like Senior Ding-Dong and Jody Price?

I just think it has alot of great jokes even if not all of them work and well the plot is generic they play around with Ned's charecter in a fun way wich is cool to see before he becomes very boring in later seasons. Also I definitely agree with you on Number 1. This was a preaty hard season to rank and I have no idea what my list would look like when I do it but Lisa Gets and A is the best here. I knew Bart the Mother would be somewhere in the top 3, and was a bit surprised with some of the episodes in the list, but it's always cool to be surprised when watching these countdowns. I still don't know how I would rank my personal top 10, but for me Bart the Mother would be number 1 since I honestly think it feels like it's the last breath of the classic era before the show almost completely lost the heart that made it so great earlier on before the show changed quite a bit. I would also have Lisa Gets an A, Mayored to the Mob, Wild Barts Can't Be Broken, and Treehouse of Horror 9 in my top 10, but don't know where I would rank them, and I would have Marge Simpson in Screaming Yellow Honkers on my top 10. Great list as always dude, and I am honestly feeling for you dude with how you have to now put up with Seasons 11 and 12 where the decline in quality really started to show itself, and we started to get the really terrible episodes. Good luck dude, and continue with the great work.

To me, it's first of seasons where I can count favorite episodes on one hand, and last of pre-movie seasons where I can name episodes that is really *favorite* and not just some kind of curiosities to me or good in hypothetical sense, as is interesting conceptually, but lacking in execution in one way or another, "teen" seasons are full of these. In season 10, I share most of personal list with that in the video, just in different arrangement.
Most favorite being "The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace", for one of the last glimpses of "classic Homer", being enthusiastic not to concoct some scheme for quick money, but trying to prove himself to have intellectual worth and genuinely create something useful, in all original concept of episode, being kept in the spirit of more humble, suffering from low self-esteem, Homer of early seasons. Seeing him using his intellectual sources in unorthodox way and actually succeed, even if only to his own personal pride, was also satisfying to see. One of the last sympathetic portrayals of Homer for years to come.
"Bart the Mother" is second, review explains it sufficiently: moments of genuine rapport between Marge and Bart are so sparse in the series, any one is divided with other by seasons and almost decades, seeing them connecting with each other on such deep level is precious. Another strong element is high point in unending "crime & punishment" saga of Bart, him facing repentance for most serious misdeed in his life so far (and generally) and taking interest in preserving life of creatures he, as he thinks, is responsible for getting orphaned, and than still wanting to save them just because he's taken responsibility for their lives, which is also tremendous development for his character (and given it happens in far off the peak of the series). All of it is slightly underscored by typical nonsensical ending of Skully period, but first three thirds are still worthy material.
"Lisa Gets an "A"" is also interesting twist on usual Lisa's crusade for justice and honesty, with her, slightly similar to Bart in another episode, being perpetrator for her misdeed, even only in her own eyes, and trying to set justice when everybody around would rather roll with fraud for personal benefits. Ending, again, is a bit of travesty, rather than actual settlement, but inventive enough (and again, delves into cartoonish implausibility to set absurd of universe against character's human values) to let it slip for the sake of comedy. (I erroneously thought for some time this episode belonged to season 4, it's kind of here in terms of mixing realistic matter with goofiness, similar to "Whacking Day", plus school setting again, but it's really too goofy for earlier seasons and rightfully at home in season 10.)
"Mom and Pop Art" is in the bottom of "top 4", it's naturally pairing itself with "Wizard...", being another "Homer tries to create" episode, except this time his success is built on sheer luck at first rather than conscious effort. It's truly creative in its visuals, both gag-related or just artistic, even if the story itself is re-hash of various themes of that season alone and current period, or just recurring themes of Homer's attics and adventures. I mark it as one of season's spotlight purely based on these artistic merits of it.
