One of the best-sounding diesels this country ever produced. Fine documentation of them in their prolonged indian summer, sir. :)

Fantastic. Best diesel locos I've ever driven. Will be strange to drive them again but with a GM noise behind me!

The Class 69 don't seem to do much work currently. At least they avoided the scrap man.

Great compilation as always there Anthony. I'd forgotten about Artemis livery 56312, how could I forget that! The Class 56 has got to be the best sounding freight loco we have in the UK. Shame the remaining examples don't get more work, but noticable from this selection just how few of these workings are running in 2020.

An excellent composition, Anthony, and very well filmed.
Like the long shot ‘train in the landscape’ style, too.

Many thanks for the sub, much appreciated. I have always liked the 'train in the landscape' style of photography, I think it tells more of a story that just a shot of train without any context.

    • @LinesideSouthEast

Well spotted. As far as I know there is no difference in the way the buffers operate, the different in shape is probably just down to different manufacturers who make the buffers.

      @@mrbluesky2050 actually Tom is correct
"The engine is a direct descendant of English Electric CSVT types, its closest relative being the 16CSVT used in the Class 50. Technical advances included significantly uprated turbochargers, gear driven camshafts in place of the timing chain used on Class 50s, and uprated cylinder heads, fuel pumps and injectors. The engine was nominally rated at 3,520 hp (2,620 kW), but was set at 3,250 hp (2,420 kW) for rail use."

Yes very true the engine in a 56 is really just update of the English Electric some of the parts interchange , we once used 56 cylinder head on a 37 . Had the miss-fortune to work on 56's for many years they were a pig to work on power unit but sounded amazing load banked flat out . First one we load banked caught fire it sucked load of sparks/embers from exhaust into roof filters over electrical cubical didn't do much damage
