For one, she prefers to drape her statement.
An obsession 50 years in the making, these saris are now an integral part of her identity. Each of the 600+ saris carries an equally colourful history; from the sari she received as a payment for her first gig, to the purple sari she claims is Kolkata Knight Riders’ lucky charm or the one she wore when receiving the country's highest civilian award, the Padma Shri.

If you notice the letter K(in Bengali)in her Bindi it stands for Kolkata.. That's her love for the city where she lives mostly even though her roots lie in Mumbai and ethnically she is Tamil. Usha Uthup Ma’am brings back a very cute memory from my childhood! I must have been about seven years old! A song of hers played on a black and white TV ( yes, long long ago) that we had back in the early 80’s and I screamed “Amma, Amma!” She reminds me of my mother! She’s a queen!
