  • Roscoe Vernon "Gadabout" Gaddis (The Flying Fisherman) - pilot, avid sport fisherman, television pioneer, and early environmentalist - was interviewed on WFAU's 'Talkback' with Norm Gallant on May 15, 1969. Gaddis speaks passionately about the natural wonders of his adopted State of Maine and promoting tourism inland from the rocky coastline.
Gaddis laments the environmental damage to the state's fisheries wreaked by paper company log drives and power company dams on Maine lakes and rivers, most notably his beloved Kennebec River. Gaddis (1896-1986) was a resident of Bingham on the Kennebec, and his base of operations for many an adventure in his Piper Cherokee was the Bingham airstrip that later became the Gadabout Gaddis Airport.
'Talkback’ was an award-winning daily morning radio talk show on WFAU AM/FM in Augusta, Maine from 1965-1981, hosted by Norm Gallant. Guests included state and national political figures, entertainers, authors, and everyday people discussing such topics as gardening and growing, and animal and pet care. Gallant interviewed over 3,000 guests on 4,195 shows.
