Captain Scot, I am a flight instructor for the USA air force and also a developer for online private pilot ground school. I really like your approach to flying. It is so nice when a pilot of your experience devotes extra time to new wannabe pilots. Nice easy to understand explanations with a great attitude. Thank you for your post.
This kid is amazing. He's very mature, VERY alert and smart... he knew exactly where that helicopter was and was spot on! He's going to make one hell of a pilot later on.
Wow, this kid will make a great pilot someday! At just 10 years old, he seems mature enough to fly a plane and not get distracted or scared. I hope he continues on to get his PPL.
Hi, My sons 5 and he eats, sleeps and adores flying. If you are ever in Nairobi-Kenya. Give him a ride and some small tutorials. Maybe you should start a flying school in Africa. Not bad huh!
Exactly, you pick a spot on the runway near the beginning of it and control your rate of descent with the throttle. When you get close to the ground you slow the rate of descent with the control wheel then raise the nose so you touch down on the main wheels first....
He snapps up good, Was supprised when he acually knew where north was and how to find it. Many people even around the 20-40's that have no clue. This young pilot got a bright future ahead of him if he still is dedicated towards flying. Great job.
Ya it appears so. He and his Dad have flown together before but to what extent I don't know. A lot of the video that didn't make it in the final edit shows him totally focused on the flight instruments and for the most part flying by reference to them only. I hope I can follow his progression in aviation and shoot more video of him. He's just a super nice guy which made the flight that much more enjoyable.
I know it's an older video but I've only recently discovered Captain Scott, and THIS video was the most fun I've had watching flying vids. You were sensationally patient and encouraging with Luke. Great to see.
What a good teacher--he does a great job of showing this child "how" the plane works--that's how my dad was with me, too, when I was learning, and that made a world of difference--I was about that same age when I did my first landing and take off in a Cessna.
Captain Scott, I've been watching most all of your flying videos now since discovering them and love how you teach and explain things, and take young kids up to introduce them to flying. I've watched many other pilots flying videos, but you Sir are the professionals professional!!! I don't fly myself, although when younger took some flying lessons, but due to finances I didn't stick with it, even though its been a life long dream since I was old enough to look up in the sky and watch planes flying over head. I flew paragliders for a few years and it was a dream come true, flight at its most basic level, but even that couldn't satisfy the desire to fly airplanes because of the mechanics involved, flaps up/down, speed and engine management to me is the ultimate. I'm older and retired now and have been enjoying "flying vicariously" through the videos and experience of other pilots that post videos such as you and I pay attention to learn as much as possible! Who knows, I may take flying lessons again someday, but for now I truly enjoy your videos and really enjoy your relaxed attitude and personality! Ha, I remember on one of my flying lessons, back in the early 80s flying a V tale Bonanza, when doing the run up and magneto tests, I switched it too far and there was a loud pop (and a curse from my IP) and then either the engine shut down or he shut it down, then he had to climb out, open the cowling and do something to the engine, if memory serves me, I think he said he had to reconnect something. Anyway lol maybe I wasnt meant to be a pilot. We finished our lesson and after landing some woman drove up to us and made a comment about his cuss word over the radio, she laughed but he didn't think it was so funny. Personally he should of been a little more clear before hand on how far to switch it, i think I caused a big backfire and he had tp do something with the manifold after that. Oh well, live and learn. I sure enjoy how you instruct though! Thanks for continuing to post great videos!
This is the cutest video u ever posted... informative and the kid luke made it all the more fun to watch it... plz make some more videos and post them for us.
This is an incredible demonstration of the fundamentals of flight. I may start having my students watch this video prior to them coming to their first flight. Excellent job Scott!!
Hi Captain Scott -- You are great instructor. Wonderful job with with Luke. I sure wish I had you as my instructor. I have my 2nd flight lesson this Saturday. I've learned a lot just by watching your videos!
Thanks, great job to both of you. You taught him way more than my first instructor did on my first few flying lessons. I changed instructors. The original instructor seemed like he wanted to fly himself on my dime. Happy flying!
Scott, you and captain sully are two of the few people I truly look up to, unlike other airline pilots, your actually friendly and civil! I'm currently taking my PPL here in the UK currently undergoing circuits before my first solo (I'm 15 now)! My goal is to be like you, an Aiken captain :-) thanks for the video!:P
Just gotta say how much I appreciate your videos! This one really brings back some great memories. I think I was around 10 the first time I flew in a light aircraft, a Cherokee it was. I'm 17 now and working on my PPL in the very same aircraft!
Other kids stay in arguing on their computer games consoles about who or what is best blah blah blah and this kid says "I don't care what console you have, it won't top this"
That's awesome!!!! I have wanted to fly as long as I can remember. I wish I could have met someone like you when I was that age.... Finally at 49 I am currently working on my ppl. Watching this I can not help but think that is just Awesome
This pilot is sharp. Love him making sure he saw the helicopter. What a great Dad to expand the kids horizons. You other commenters already noted the fine instructor. Wonderful vid, congrats to all.
That's awesome. I remember when I started flying with my dad and had my first real lessons when I was 13. I soloed on my 16th birthday and I am sure this boy will do the same and even become a commercial pilot! Keep it up!
I also flew a Cassna when I was 10yo although I think it was a 174. It was in Cub Scouts for a flight certificate. Amazing experience and I still crap on about it to people over 20 years later!
oh my god that kid is lucky im only 14 and i don't know how to start my career as a young pilot..... captain scott, you are a really good instructor i look forward to meeting you someday.
This was a seriously great video Capt. Scott ! I'm going to have to watch it again, but next time it will have to be on my projector rather than the smallish screen in front of me ... thumbs up for a great ride, and a talented youngster ! :)
Captain Scott, you make flying look easy. I had to struggle with my landings before I nailed the concept. Those Cessna landing gears can take all kinds of punishment.
This is cool. I loved flying when I was his age too. I think the one thing I would have liked to have seen was the "pilots view" when you were telling the kid about keeping altitude in turns. I'm guessing he was really losing altitude in the turns. But that's a handy video for students.
Amazing! The little captain semmes very confident with the plane, very mature at just 10 yo!! I'm sure he'll be an excellent A380 Captain!! Good luck from Italy, little man!! :-)
Captain Scott, I'm 11 years old and have had my sights set on an airline career since I was 7, and I've started my flight training, and I wish I had you as an instructor!
I'm 15 and I thought I was a young pilot in training! This dude is 10 and flying. It's great to see people like him take an interest into aviation too.
i mean 14 is really young. You cant even go solo until you're 16 (im guessing you're 15 now) but you'll get heaps of practice if you keep flying until then
Any real aviator has to just love this video! I had a lump in my throat all the way thru it! Great move Captain Scott! Check out the young lads look just after becoming airborne. If this doesnt inspire him in life - nothing will.
That’s so cool, I remember my neighbor was in the air force and I was about this age when he took me to the base and let me set in a F4 phantom. I was hooked after that.
Our 12 year old grandson had his first lesson from our friend last fall. He took everything in like a sponge, and loved it. While flying over the lake, his Papa said "hey Ethan look at that lighthouse." Our grandson responded, "Papa, I'm sort of busy flying the plane right now." 😂😂😂 Ethan is pretty advanced for his age; started reading at 2 years old, and now reads over 500 words a minute. The state tested him, and his results for science and math were college level. His reading level is off the charts. However, we have no intentions of advancing him and turning him into a "Doogie Houser. He needs the social skills developed by growing up with kids his own age. Although, when he is in a situation, like flying the plane, he sometimes sounds like a little professor. He cracks us up, and this was one of those times.
What a fantastic instructor. I'm a student PPL right now with a 'proper' job but I do fantasise about becoming an instructor. If I do I hope I'm half as good as this guy.
Loved the vid. Always wanted to learn how to fly but unfortunately have not had the chance to learn. Just turned 41 Oct. 23 but no flight lessons yet. It's a question of money. Maybe one day I can have a lesson.

This kid is amazing. He's very mature, VERY alert and smart... he knew exactly where that helicopter was and was spot on! He's going to make one hell of a pilot later on.
No, not very alert or mature. He was not focusing on takeoff at all - attention wandering all over the place, eyes not where they should be...
@@fyiaustralia9686 he's 10, not 30
@@fyiaustralia9686 I'm even hurt with wat you said
@@fyiaustralia9686 sorry what
Dave Gardiner - get a life loser!
54 is young. I new a guy who was 90 and soloed...Go for it man..
Wow, this kid will make a great pilot someday! At just 10 years old, he seems mature enough to fly a plane and not get distracted or scared. I hope he continues on to get his PPL.
AgentAndroid I'm happy for him
That boy had a life changing experience...so heartfelt. Thank-you for posting this excellent video Captain Scott!
Damn, at 4:12 this kid already has the sense of visual awareness. Nice job!
First seconds of the video and I am already amazed by the Qatar taxying. Amazing video!
I watch your vids. 4 years later lol
Any tips?im going flying on my first lesson in 4 weeks and im 10 in a c172
Hi, My sons 5 and he eats, sleeps and adores flying. If you are ever in Nairobi-Kenya. Give him a ride and some small tutorials. Maybe you should start a flying school in Africa. Not bad huh!
Thanks for doing this! Patient CFIs like yourself are who got me into flying and made me the pilot I am. You guys keep aviation alive.

Great job man! I was pretty impressed when you could easily tell where your north was and identify traffic before the PIC.
I know it's an older video but I've only recently discovered Captain Scott, and THIS video was the most fun I've had watching flying vids. You were sensationally patient and encouraging with Luke. Great to see.
Ya, it's the heading indicator that's broken. It's getting replaced.
WOW go Captain Luke! So impressed! Must be fun sharing your skills and passion with kids!
Fantastic video. It's so nice to see a young lad interested in flying - at that age they are like a sponge soaking it all up. Well done Scott.
You are such a nice instructor, Captain Scott. Very good with this kid!
You made that little fella's day. He will never forget that for the rest of his life! I wish that i had you for an instructor.
What a good teacher--he does a great job of showing this child "how" the plane works--that's how my dad was with me, too, when I was learning, and that made a world of difference--I was about that same age when I did my first landing and take off in a Cessna.

I'm shooting a video on how I mount the cams and capture the audio tomorrow. Give me a few days and I'll post it.
Teaching kids to fly is my personal aviation dream.... kudos to you Captain Scott.
It`s nice how you took your time to teach Luke about aviation and how to fly.
Totally awesome. Took me back to when I was 10 years old. I will never forget it. This little man has what it takes.... :-)
Great video. I love taking my grandchildren flying because they show so much joy like Luke.

Majority of his turns seemed to be standard rate, this kid will be a great instrument pilot as well! Mr. Scott you sir are an inspiration to many
Other kids stay in arguing on their computer games consoles about who or what is best blah blah blah and this kid says "I don't care what console you have, it won't top this"
wow, the flight training has been for ALL OF US!!!!
Thank you Captain.
This kid is a natural. Spotted the chopper even before the instructor all while piloting. Multitask!

Awesome little champ! You have a bright future
Great instructor. Just talks about what is relevant at that point in time.
This is a GREAT video. Very proud of that kid, and great instructing skills. Very cool.
Great video. Thanks. I’m almost 60 years old and dreaming about being in this kid’s spot. Hopefully soon. Cheers.

This was a seriously great video Capt. Scott ! I'm going to have to watch it again, but next time it will have to be on my projector rather than the smallish screen in front of me ... thumbs up for a great ride, and a talented youngster ! :)
What a kid! Listening to the ATC and taking in everything like picking out the helicopter. Born pilot he is.
I don't think that kid will ever find another instructor as good as this guy! Wish you could come down to Rainier Flight Scott and fly with me some!
Maybe one day we'll have a chance to fly together. Have fun with your lessons.
You are a brilliant instructor! Smart kid too :)
That kid has great potential. His instructor is great, and it brings out the best in the kid. Very cool.
Captain Scott, you make flying look easy. I had to struggle with my landings before I nailed the concept. Those Cessna landing gears can take all kinds of punishment.
Well done the pair of you. Cool Coach !!
This guy is a textbook instructor. Great job to both of u guys!

Great example of turning a kid in the right direction....no puns intended. What a pleasure to watch :)

this one is a keeper; thanks capt. scott
Great vid! Can't wait to have those same experiences with my son. Taking him flying for the first time in 2 days. Hope he loves it:)
That's incredible!! I'm 20 and still dream of doing that... One lucky, and talented 10 year old there! I'm jealous! :P
What a fantastic instructor. I'm a student PPL right now with a 'proper' job but I do fantasise about becoming an instructor. If I do I hope I'm half as good as this guy.
Nice. I hope Luke continues his training and learns to keep his eyes up! “Weeee!”
This video just makes me smile. I started taking lessons a little younger than 10, I believe I was 8.
Captain, you're a good teacher.
Amazing seeing that kid so happy flying, good luck man :)
Thanks Cameron Chitra-Straley.I am actually a fluent english. You are good at what your doing. Keep it up.👍👍
Very Cool Scott!! Nice job.
Loved the vid. Always wanted to learn how to fly but unfortunately have not had the chance to learn. Just turned 41 Oct. 23 but no flight lessons yet. It's a question of money. Maybe one day I can have a lesson.
Might take him a while longer to develop your super chilled out ATP radio voice!
Great video!
I'm wishing this kid the best of luck, godspeed lil' boy!
man, this really inspires me
Great video. great instruction to an eager student.
What a fine mentor !
Captain Scott, you are my hero.
Good luck to you in the future Captain Luke
Nice video great instruction...
