In 1981, I talked to Stu Thomson bmx champion. I asked him how could I improve on getting faster? He said, "Work on your starts and take off the brakes." He said."Once you get used to being out of control. That's when you're in control."
Very helpful description of the handling differences. I want something to feel more bmx than my full-sus mtb, so 27.5 it is. I want to buy something nimble for basic tricks and wheelies that I am happy to take around town on the streets.
I'm 5'6 and I will probably go with the 27.5
The Fairdale Taj is a 27.5 inch bike with rim brakes.
thanks for the vid. I'm late on the trend of big bikes. But always have been a bicycle rider and I've rode motorcycles for a decade now. Looking forward to get my first big bike. This was very helpful and informative. I'm 6'0 but think I'm still going to get a 26"-27.5" bike, though I'm not in to tricks. Looking to cruise and wheelie. But alot of cruising with some wheelies on the way. Thanks again for the vid!
Hell yeah right on. Yeah 27.5 definitely have a more comfy ride for cruising . Thanks for watching 👊
Since I'm 6'2 I think I'ma go w the 29". Thanks for the vid
It's a higher center of mass on the 29, meaning when you get into a lean, you cut back much harder on them because it feels heavier being higher on the same lean angle. Geometry helps you learn everything easier.
@@F1ow3rzzk nah its heavier and depending on your height it just makes wheelies harder
I never realized how heavy these bike were. My 29” enduro with 170mm in the front and 160mm in the rear is only 1lbs heavier. They sure are cool though, I wouldn’t mind having one for some cruising around town.
If your worried about running hydro disc due to being stranded, check out the TRP HY/RD Cable-Actuated Hydraulic Disc Brake, you run a whatever cable pull lever you want and cable all the way down to the sealed hydro caliper that’s cable actuated . That way you ever snap your cable the nearest bike shop or you homie should have a cable , instead of trying to find someone with hydro line, the right Ferrells and brake fluid, then have to bleed them!
Aye that sounds dope! I’m definitely gunna have to look into those for sure. Best of both worlds 🤘
Good info! Interesting how all the new 29” se bikes have gained 3+ lbs. guessing a lot of it has to do with the wider forks and wider chain stays to accommodate 2.8 tires more easily.
I think you’re right about the weight. They also have wider hoops on the wheels too. Fork is a heavier gauge too I think.
Great video!
Thanks for the help
thanks for this explanation, I always rode 20.5" bmx when I was younger.. I'm almost 40 now and have the bug to try a 29er and hit some wheelies at the beach. I may end up getting that se for 599 , thanks for the vid bro
Thank you so much I was having so much trouble deciding which bike to get, the big flyer or the maniac flyer but I’m gonna go with the maniac because the fat tires
Great video I took a lot from it… I’m going to keep it real I suck at wheelies on bicycles yet can ride my dirtbikes out which is strange anyway I want to practice my wheelie game… I have new trek Marlin 8 with 29s and love how fast the wheels spin and being 6’4” il prob do 29 even tho the 27 sounds nice.. I’m getting old so will prob get a 29 fast ripper for the gears lol. Thanks brother
Now that I've finally had enough time on the 27.5 I can definitely say that a 27.5 is easier to get the wheel up than a 29, but so far the 29 feels easier to stay up.
Could come from the fact that I've had more riding time on a 29 than the 27.5 though
The 27.5 balance point is typically taller or closer to 12 O’clock vs 29 balance point which is typically lower because the frames are longer on the 29.
Really either would be fine because of your height. Really boils down to what you like better 👍
I’m gonna stick with the 29 because my dad is 6’6 and my doctor said I’ll grow to 6’3 so I might chose the 29 inch
I have a Big Flyer and a 2021 GT Performer 29. Today I just picked up an OM Duro.
What about haro, gt, and other bike brands besides se and collective?
Bro you are fine stoneeddd 😭😭😭
I have different kinds of both and it overall depends on what you want, if you just wanna fuck around or have a smooth ride do 275 or if you wanna swerve or send combos most 29s will work, especially a monster quad
It’s the opposite, for a smooth ride get a 29 and for swerving and stuff get a 27.5
5’11 210 Just wanna wheelie. 29 or 27.5. in love with fat tires
I'm six feet tall should I get 27 or 29? Please help I weigh 240
I'm 5"11 what you think is more comfortable 26" or 29"
I just got a colony eclipse 26er, I'm planning on using my big bmx for park/street tricks and hitting up my local pump track😎🤙
Nice video
If you always get your bike stolen. I suggest you rent a Citibike. Bonus Tip ✌🏿
Hello can you put 29 tires, to 27.5 frame se bike?
I’m 5’7 and 230 pounds was wanting to start riding with my kids and was wondering which one you would recommend the 27.5 or the 29er I see pros and cons to both but don’t have much experience riding the 2 and just wanted to see what your recommendations were
What tire thickness do you recommend for a 27.5 tire bike?
my height is 5'5 and i have maniacc flyer so it is good to stay with 27.5 ?
The balance point is hardly affected. We're talking 1.5" height difference. The balance point is more affected by the circumference of the wheel which is, again, minimal. Another thing to consider is lateral stability. As in side to side movement and how much the wheel can tolerate before resembling a taco.
Magura brake is dope. I wish i could put one up front as well.
I compared 29 x 2.1 big ripper, 26 x. 2.5 om flyer and 27.5 x 2.3 pk ripper and I think all thigs being equal the 27.5 is the best of both worlds!
Which one is easiest to learn wheelies?
I’m 5’4, 13 years old, which one should I get and that will last me a long time
Would peddling a 26 vs a 29 be a significant difference?
Sup bro, I’m thinking about grabbing the maniacc flyer after being on the blue and orange big flyer for a while. I’m 6’5 and don’t combo, just straight up wheelies and was wondering if getting shorter crank arms would help as far as creating for pedal space on the bike? Just thinking about doing this because I’d hate to have my seat super high 😂😂
your gonna have to have the seat high, the cranks won’t effect it that much. if you shorten them you loose pedal momentum
I’m 5”11 250 just tryna ride with my son would u recommend 29 or 27.5 the most I’m gonna do is try and wheelie
I want the maniac flyer soo bad 😭
So far I've only ridden 26 (OM Flyer) and 29 (Big Flyer).....I want a 27.5 so bad.
This would be my first big wheel bmx bike I'm 6'2" which size would be better to just cruise?
The only difference in these bikes are the tire sizes,The frames are the same exact size.
Hey plzzz respond I’m 5’11 190 14yo what should I go for weight of bike is not rlly an issue I’m in between a maniac and big flyer
Why would disks leave you stranded? Ive never heard of this. I've been racing/ riding my whole life. Im old so i remember the first commercially available hydraulic disks for bikes.
I'm 5"9 I'm tryna decide for 29" dblocks or 27.5 money lynch whitch would you recommend
You’ll fit either one perfect. It really depends on what type of riding you want to do. Either way you’re gunna be happy haha
I’m 6’4 and around 250lb, would y’all go for a 29’ ?
Also, it’ll be my first large size BMX
You’ll be good on a 29. Check out my guy @hardbodybiggs on Instagram. He’s a big dude and mobs a 29 💯
Can anyone tell me where and what time the meet up spot is for the Modesto ride out on Saturday?
@@UrbanMisfit Really I'm looking for any ride out bro I usually go to Stockton Sunday funday but I got plans with the fam on Sunday so trying to hit a ride out tomorrow.
I know for sure tomorrow there is a ride for little Tay bday 12pm at Ceres Skatepark 👍.
@@UrbanMisfit right on brotha ill be there if I see you I'll thank you in person 👊👍👍
I wanna change the gearing on my 29 where would I find those type of parts
I'm 5 foot 7 what would be good fo4 me?
27.5 are built for your height. 29 would be good too. Depends on what you’re looking for.
Monster rippers have disk brakes
I'm 6"7. And have tall legs. Does a 29 fit me? And would you recommend a ripper or flyer for my height. Thanks
Anything 24” and above is a cruiser. 20” and I guess O/S 20 is the only size that’s not a cruiser.
Get a heater in that room. Thanks for the info.
They don’t recommend putting pegs on some of the SE 29ers
@@Anth230 It might be that in practice, but the Big Ripper, OM Flyer and Big Flyer 29er ship with pegs.
I saw a video where Steezy was recommending against pegs on the Fast Ripper and a few bikes (maybe monster Quad)- I think it was something about the axles not being cut out for it in that particular bike's case.
Framed bikes made a 27.5 w vbrakes
Oh damn really? Lol I tried to find 27.5 with v brakes but had no luck haha
Mech?! How come you ain’t sell bikes?! Get them bike sponsors on that for your sale platform bro!!
What is it with dudes STILL wearing hoods like little red riding hood girls? No real man should wear a hood unless you are snow blowing!
Your name is Wildcat Cougar, two of the gayest animals on earth. Also, you may not like when men wear hoods but your daughter sure does ;)
@@chrisc8758 My daughter is trans. You''ll love her because she wears a hood and has a penis. Have fun hoodie boy. Fake gangsta.
Yeah… typical “Get off my lawn” guy. & your name is WildcatCougar. 🤣 what kind of “Real Man” names him self after an Attractive Milf. 😂
Im watching this on the shitter which feels appropriate.
Everyone should watch this video
