- These are ALL the acoustic songs played (parts 2, 3 & 5) during this Tom Snyder (NBC 1981) interview during the "Tomorrow Show"
1981 May 7th : NBC Studios, Tom Snyder's TV "The Tomorrow Show".
Tom Snyder was host of "The Tomorrow Show" (aired late nights from 1973 to 1982). It was a talk show unlike the usual late-night fare, with Snyder, cigarette in hand, alternating between asking hard-hitting questions and offering personal observations that made the interview closer to a conversation. Very cool at the time !
"Parts 2, 3 & 5" are acoustic renditions played that night :
0:00 On The Road Again (the acoustics - sound - are not as good as what follows)
3:25 Dire Wolf
6:49 Deep Elem Blues
11:10 Cassidy - Hudba
Could this be the music that best portrays the essence of human life? Why do we live on Earth? I believe to be forever grateful for the gift of time on an endlessly beautiful planet. We are all children of our creator with souls that only love can fill!! Rejoice in the music of the Grateful Dead for eternity! Nothing will stop this harmonic energy. Nothing ever.
Very well put and true. Nice.
Beautifully said!
Immediate gratification and extreme happiness whenever I see the boys do their thing! Nothing to do but smile, smile, smile!!!!
I must have done something good out there in the universe to be able to be here on this planet at the same time as the Grateful Dead. Not everyone is aware but the energy is available to all if they listen.
This version of Deep Ellum Blues is my favorite Dead song.
Jerry does get into a nice but too brief of a groove on it that is delicious.
Damn they sounded so tight
I agree this is a great version! I also like the Reckoning version of deep elem blues. This set is incredible!
Music says there is something more to life than seriousness and sorrow
Deep Elem and Cassidy have such a great flow I can't describe.
Me so happy, to have rare stuff like this just waiting to be discovered & re-discovered it's just musical nirvana! (~):}
Thought I’d seen everything they’d done. Didn’t know they’d actually performed on Tom Snyder’s show until today. Nice surprise.
What a performance. Absolutely awesome.
my fav. interviewer and band at their best doing it acoustic !
Loved Tom Snyder, got your dose of crazy. late night pm your own TeeVee!
Thanks! Love Dire Wolf and Deep Ellum, oh, and was a huge fan Of this show. Miss you Tom.
This is so soothing...
They’re all so damn good. Love Bobby so much. Living legend
During Dire Wolf Jerry keeps trying get Bobby to look at him to crack him up. They were dosed and having fun. Bobby doing everything to not look at Jerry cause he’s knows he’ll crack. I used to wait tables high on lsd it is hard stay on point, such good vibes.
Nah dont think they're tripping here
Thanks for posting this. I've seen the interview portion on CZcams. Snyder references the acoustic set but I've never seen it until now. And here it is. My prayer has been answered within 24 hours. 😊😊😊😊
how fucking hard would it be to play like jerry he holds all the notes and chords so perfectly!
I miss the shows; I miss Jerry.
Me too.
Loved all these tunes, especially when cleaned up Yodel-style. Thanks kind man!
My pleasure my friend !
Once again, thank you so much for these gems! Take care my brother, Jack
Acoustic dead is underrated dead. Good stuff!
0:00 On the Road Again (the audio on this 1st song is NOT "ideal")
3:25 Dire Wolf
6:49 Deep Ellum Blues
11:10 Cassidy
Sounds good to me 🇺🇸✌️
Good vibes hun!!! Yeah. Big little kisses from Spain
Thought I'd seen em' all... Thank you for this!
Phil geeked as usual..... Awesome.
THANKS! I finally get to see and hear these great intimate gems. Swingin'!
Not too long after Brent Mydland joined the band! Of course he became an integral part later!
This was may introduction to the Dead when it first aired. I thought these were all new songs of their new album, "Reckoning" I went out and bought the cassette.
Thanks for the posts! I haven't seen some of these since they were originally broadcast on TV.
Thanks a bunch Yodel~don't know how I missed this one.
Happy BDay dear ol' Jerry Sir !
So smooth.
Man alive- Snyder was the best.
Holy crow!
“Look for your supper to be good and hot” just like the tunes. Great post thanks brother!

Thank you! ✌🏽❤️
Cassidy
Grateful Dead
I have seen where the wolf has slept by the silver stream.
I can tell by the mark he left, you were in his dream.
Ah child of countless trees, ah child of boundless seas.
What you are, and what you're meant to be
Speaks his name, though you were born to me,
Born to me, Cassidy.
Lost now on the country miles in his Cadillac.
I can tell by the way you smile, he is rolling back.
Come wash the nighttime clean, come grow the scorched ground green.
Blow the horn, and tap the tambourine.
Close the gap of the dark years in between
You and me, Cassidy.
Quick beats in an icy heart, catch colt draws a coffin cart,
There he goes and now here she starts, hear her cry.
Flight of the seabirds
Scattered like lost words,
Wield to the storm and fly.
Fare thee well now, let your life proceed by it's own design.
Nothing to tell now, let the words be yours, I'm done with mine.
Fare thee well now, let your life proceed by it's own design.
Nothing to tell now, let the words be yours, I'm done with mine.
Wow. 💜

So good!
I was at the rehearsal and the taping of this show - The Dead had a hard time meeting the time restrictions on the songs! Imagine that.
Haha i laughed about that consideration when i started the interview and the full taping. Like " these four songs from reckoning were probably the only four they could barely limit in order to fit the commercial cuts and shit. Long live the dead brother or sister. Peace
What???? Start with every single detail and leave nothing out….
I love this.
Thanks!
awesome!!!!
I want to hear some wood block in with the percussion for some reason. Fun seeing this little get together, thanks for it
Quite the rockin' teenage combo! Go Cat, go!
Thanks Lolo !
oh hey now I know these fella's
TV host smoking a cigarette ✅
Jerry alive and smiling ✅
Brent on keys ✅
thanks for the jewel. Da Kid
Bob's not quite as out to lunch as he was on Letterman mannnn :)))
What a great time to see and hear the Dead. I didn't get my chance until 88 and it was a life changing experience.. Still wish I would've left home when I was 11.
Oh yeah!
Old & in the way
David “Dawg” Grisman, Vassar “Clamp” Clemens,
Jerry and “Mule”. Great band, great music!
YEAH!
Wait a minute, there he is!!!
'on the road again' was done by the lovin spoonfull on an early album and refelcts both bands jug-band roots ...
thank Jerry I saw those guys
Much grinnin'
Never understood why Phil played that Doug Irwin bass instead of an acoustic bass. If anything, he should have played his Guild Starfire.
bob is a genius and jerry and the gang
Jerry proving that you’re always only a half-step away
Lotsa years on that not-yet 40 year old!.....Wow
I'd like to throw those congas out the window... Just annoying (imho) Thanks for the post! So great to see this stuff again.
Please don’t murder me!
Don’t murder me 😂
Odd hearing Bobby go it alone on the vocals on Cassidy. They didn’t bother giving Brent a mike to help on the harmony
HeyNow 😊
Thanks Lolo; Good stuff but where's Brent's Mic...
ten below, to the right of Billy!
Jonas; Thanks, I see it now. I would have thought he would sing back up on Cassidy, but I can't hear him?
Natural born easeman on the road again
Brent is the Sneaky Pete of the piano
Kind of
Was someone playing keyboards?
Sounds much different without Brent's piano
Commercials on mute. Then volume on.
Where's Brent?
Front of the stage: Jerry (l) - Bob (c) - Brent (r). Listen. You can hear the piano. Oh... You can see him during Cassidy too. 15:41
To the right of Billy!!
you can see him on Deep Ellum and Cassidy
Dire Wolf see & hear him.
Why no Brent in the interview i wonder?
That Ovation Weir's playing sounds utterly horrendous.
Those things sound like kazoos at the best, anyway.
Also, by this time they seem to have seriously run short of ideas, both musical and lyrical.
Kinda tragic to see such former luminaries just lumber on pointlessly into the next generation.
Philistine.
Weir and garcia sound great in a small space. Dead were running acoustic sets every nite at radio city music hall. Rarely had the time, Or facility to do acoustic...practice for them!!
Wrong side of the bed for you.
Cmon JimJim. It’s just music - good music. Smile & take deep breath.
awesome!!!!
