  • Based on the legendary Klon Centaur pedal... this little stompbox from NU-X delivers a huge sound for a fraction of the price of an original collector's piece. This Horseman Overdrive has a huge, thick, harmonically rich tone to it. This one is going on my pedalboard!

  • @gabrieloalgo

NUX blew my mind with this series of pedals. I had a Phaser Core before and it sucked tone AF, lowered the volume and the switch kinda worked... I gave it to a friend as a gift. I have now the FET Booster with 18v headroom before my modded Doohickey Overdrive, the Digital Delay with TapTempo that works like a charm before my Tape Delay and a TubeScreamer type drive between the booster and the Doohickey... Killer features at a very good price and tones for ages... Plus their size is very helpful on my Metro20. With some luck they´ll release a mini synth harmonizer thing someday... 😎😎

  • @therealcharliebrown
    @therealcharliebrown Před rokem

Thanks for the review. I just happened to see a guitar on a rack at the local GC to try out, and there were a few NuX pedals on the demo station plugged into a Fender Blues Junior 15W amp. I was SOOOO impressed with the reissues that I bought them on the spot (all they had in stock), and then went home and ordered the rest of the 6 plus a few others, including this gem, comparing it to my StewMac Ghost Fire (Unobtainium, Klon Clone) that I literally had just finished putting together just a few days earlier.
So, I put together a Ghost Fire Flight Case TEC-14 pedalboard dedicated to NuX (with their reissue series pedals, a couple others pedals that I prefer) so I can have a budget fly rig that can be pushed into the pre-amp section of just about any clean amp (tube or resistor), or routing the chain through an Orange Micro StAmp and an extension cabinet, with everything after the distortion in the FX Loop on that device.
I prefer running them into a Supro Black Magick 1695T combo with a 1790 cab extension using the Input 1+2 to control the volume/gain since it doesn't have an fx loop and high volumes will really muddy up the overdrive/amp sim pedals other than the Horseman pretty quick. Like you were pushing it into a 100 watts, I think that this pedal needs a large volume capability for the Gold version to really stand out.
I found that Pig Hog and a few others have a 9V 2A power supply that has plenty of power on tap for all these more recent releases (and reissues) from NuX with a splitter and a couple daisy chains. EBS cables keep them tightly spaced, and offer a TRS cable for the dual footswitch (doesn't require power to operate the looper, but it is nice to see the lights).
Here is the rig, in order, in the event any other fans are interested. Just take a look, everything except an octave/harmonizer is there: Tuner, Kill Switch, Compression, Boost, Wah, Fuzz, Transparent Overdrive, Boosted Mids, OD, Crunch, Distortion, Passive Volume, 70's Uni-Vibe/Analog, 80's Chorus (Doubled Chorus, and supports Stereo), 80's Delay, Drum Loop, Looper, Amp Out, Stereo Out/ Mixer/PA and Up/Down control with Dual Footswitch (optional). This is pretty much a sound check, set, and forget rig, except for the drum loop if you want FET sound simulation and Analog functionality.
tc electronics PolyTune3 Mini Tuner/Buffer (I prefer this on bypass to see intonation all the time, and it also acts as a kill switch)
NuX Masamune Analog Compressor and Booster
    electro-harmonics Cock Fight Wah
NuX Horseman (Klon Centaur Gold/Silver Clone)
NuX Steel Singer (Dumble Special Overdrive Amp Clone)
NuX XTC OD (Bogner Ecstacy Red Overdrive Amp Clone)
NuX Plexi Crunch (Marshall '59 Super Lead 'Plexi' Amp Clone)
NuX Recto Distortion (Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier Amp Clone)
Sonicake Vexpress Expression/Volume (a passive volume pedal to keep the delay tails)
    NuX VooDoo Vibe (70's Uni-vibe/Chorus)
    NuX Analog Chorus (80's Chorus)
    NuX Analog Delay (80's Delay)
NuX JTC PRO Drum Loop / PRO Dual Switch Looper (with NuX NMP-2 Footswitch)

Holy crap... that sounds real good. Looks as though someone discovered how to duplicate a $4000.00 pedals ability and squash it down into a tiny little box. My Gunslinger kind of comes close to this sound but it does not have the BAM effect that this little stomp box has.
It really does matter what you're playing that though because it might sound totally different on a different guitar and amp set up. Play it using a variety of guitar and amps and see if it truly repeats itself and produces that amazing tone every time..

Max I think you're a very knowledgeable person with music equipment and very good guitar player.
There's a lot of people on here that are doing the same thing that you're doing making money with music without actually having a recording contract and I think that's great.
In my opinion that pedal is not worth $69 and it has a cheep look to it. I can probably replace 3 to 4 of your pedals with one pedal that doesn't look cheep sounds great and has lots of options and tones and that is a vox stomplab the one with the small wah pedal. You dont hear much about it. Thats all old school technology it hasn't been beaten. The only thing I don't like about it is the micro switching in the category switch it doesn't have that solid click like the old school equipment did. $ 100.
Someone like you should review that vox pedal . Let me know what you think.

There are two versions of the Klon Centaur... the original gold one, and a higher-gain silver version. Each sells for around $5K on eBay right now. The NUX pedal normally emulates the standard gold version, but holding down the bypass switch enables the emulation of the silver. So you're really getting *two* five thousand dollar pedals for one low price. Just in case the original value proposition wasn't quite good enough.

BTW unless you are collector use decent clones for ODDistortions and dirtyboosts.

Maybe this has been mentioned in other comments. Is that a little 59 in your bridge pickup area? 🤔

I have been reading up on NU-X. They were actually at Winter NAMM this year so they appear to be a legit player. I would love for you to demo and review the Tube Man (Screamer Clone but more transparent) and the Atlantic which is a Reverb/Delay pedal.

hello max, could you use a small monitor/screen for the pedal in your videos other youtubers do. its easier to see what you are doing. Thank you for your review.

I do that if it's something like a Wah pedal that is changing while I play, but for something where I just set it and leave it, I just put in the close ups of the pedal like in this video. I think it's even harder to see the settings on the pedal if it's in a little screen.

Hey Max, I've been reading some of the comment. I'm kind of new here, So, what's the deal with the buried guitar in the desert? Did you bury it next to Jimmy Hoffa!! Did you! That's okay something need to be buried, and forgotten! Okay, So I went back and found you're video where you buried it, I get it. Being in a very dry area like a desert, and if it doesn't rain. I say It it will plug and play. Buried like that without any wind to blow dust into the pot's, plug in, and with closed tuner, it should be okay! And if dust does get in, just clean them out with a little CRC Contact Cleaner. Now, If it rains enough to soak the ground down to it, well that's another story!
It might corrode some parts. Who knows!
But as fair as scratches from the dust and dirt threw on it, well it might have some nice scratches. But for playability it should be fine!
Now! As far as people keeping their guitars in a humidity controlled room. I can understand it! Say, take a $5000 dollar Les Paul or especially an high dollar Martan. To much humidity will totally ruin an acoustic. I had it happen to me!! It's no joke!! I live in the USA where the humidity can get kind of crazy, and I wouldn't want to lose my favorite, but cheap acoustic to poor conditions! I keep a temperature and humidistat in my home! I asked a old friend once what is a good range for humidity in your home would be? He said around 45% ( 10% give or take). But check on Google to be sure! Too, for example with a very tight set up on it, with very close tolerances. I can see why. Plus if I gave say, $20,000.00 or more for a guitar, which I've seen. Yes, I would want to protect my investment. And that's to clean it and polished it, when I take it out of the VAULT!
I tell you Max, I'm just a normal guy who just plays guitar as a hobby here at home. I still like to keep my guitars looking good as long as possible, and it does matter if I need to sale it! I'll clean and polish the from time to time. Before they get to bad! And it seems no matter how careful I am, they still get a little, scratched and dinged!
Now! On the other hand you've got people who just don't give a rat's ass!! It's like little battle scars all over it! I told a guy once it's a musical instrument not a football bat, and it look like he dragged it down the road behind they car or something. Too, I think some guy like that road worn look. You know, guitars that have been on tour for a long time. All beat up, but still plays like an old worn out hore!! These comments are just my opinion! Thanks
Okay Max, I can't wait to hear the results!
See you in the next video

    Absolutely KILLER sound indeed!
This is the pedal I've been looking for. N
Not because of it's price, but because of that RICH tone!!!!
The sheer fact that it's only 69 bucks is a PLUS!
    I want it yesterday!!!!
