Love Johan. His channel is a treasure on CZcams. So informative.
Johan is awesome!
Always love his videos.
I'm never ashamed to admit I love the Ace Frehley tone as well.
Ace and that tone inspired me to pick up the guitar when I was a kid.
Johan is the man, dudes! He is one of the ultimate amp historians in the world. I feel like his CZcamss will live on as a historical record for decades. I'm not aware of anyone who has covered Marshall amps in the detail this cat has. I am a huge fan!
I've learned so much from Tone Talk and Johan's channel. With all of you coming together, it's one of the first school days I've ever looked forward to! Thanks for making this happen y'all.
Such a great idea to have him on. Shame no-one really asked him much, but hey, you can’t pick your audience.
Good guy is Johan, he's fkn partial to his Marshall 🎸🔊🎶😉🍻
Cheers from Northern Ireland 🍻🍺🍻
Great video! Johan is so good. I love his show so much. Thanks for sharing. ✌🏼
Johan is a total Legend! 🤟
Fantastic!
Another great show
Thanks for the interview guys! Love Johan’s JMP! Have a good week :)
Awesome show. Lots of great and inspiring information
Thanks for the detailed response on my question concerning Tubes. Great info, thanks Dave and Marc!
Johan is awesome! Love his stuff. Thanks for another great episode guys.
Johan is great.I'm glad to see him chilling out with Tone-Talk Thank you.
Cool show thanks allot ,👍
Thank you guys for inviting Johan , he's our International tone treasure !
Let's go! Love this dude!
Excellent choice of guest! Thank you for recognizing Johan's contributions.
What can i say i have seen some of Johans shows and i been enjoyed every one off them. Best regards From Cipenhagen
"I am not trustworthy" - Ah, we love you, Johan! Cheers from Germany.
Johan is such a nice and humble guy! Been following his channel for years. It's like a proper comprehensive encyclopedia of Rock guitar for everybody. It was so cool to have him as a guest in Tone Talk!!! 😄😄😄 I wish it lasted longer!!!
Just as a side note and not a diss at all to the amazing work you guys are doing: would there be a way of redirecting certain questions to the "ask Dave" episodes? Those are supercool too and I enjoy them greatly. But sometimes having interesting guests in the program watching paint dry while people ask very specific questions about their own specific Friedman gear can be a bit redundant at specific times, but really cool and appropriate at others.
Thanks for the show and keep up the great work!
Love the Johan!
Johan is the best. One of the only channels I have the bell icon on for. And his 77 2204 is my holy grail. Sounds incredible at room volume up to full on. On the lookout for one of my own.
I felt a bit bad for Johan as he sat and listened to the comments:“wouldn’t it be great to have such and such guest on...” guess this is more of a chat than an interview show.
Yeah those comments come up frequently on Tone Talk. The guest is sitting there as people ask questions of Dave and/or there is a discussion about how great it would be to have a certain guest on. It's cool though. The guests don't take it personally. This is an informal podcast which is one of the reasons it works so well.
@@Joe-mz6dc concur. Johan had to sit there and listen to super chat about when you gonna get Cantrell on. Dumb. I stopped watching
I’ve made so many gear buying decisions based on a Johan’s videos. He’s a treasure.
he probably costs you a lot of money by creating desires !! i ve also bought a couple of things after seeing his vids
Thats part of the fun to me,
OK, Let’s Go!
It was great to see Johan, it would have been nice to hear more from him.
I think we had a nice discussion with Johan. Thanks for watching. Some feel we could have asked more questions and I'm sure we could have. We did our best though.
Another great one, congrats! Should really invite Charlie Starr from Blackberry Smoke!
70s-era Ace Frehley is definitely one of my "benchmarks".
I think all of his Alive! solos are truly live...it was mostly vocals, bass, and Paul Stanley's guitar that were redone in the studio.
Johan is the man!
Man thank god for this show. I dug out some of my old Chinese 12ax7 I’ve ripped out of Amps to replace with JJs in the past and tried 1 in only v2 and holy shit! What a beautiful thing!
Since Dave did it I will too…1973 Marshall lead 50 watt for sale here, pre circuit board, old glass included.
I tell him this on several of his videos, but Johan has the best channel on youtube!
Long time fan of the show and this was a great one. I have a suggestion.... Scott Splawn from Splawn Amplification? Hes been under tha radar for a long time and would love to hear a chat with him. Thanks again 👍🏻
Marc I bought the Archer jeff mod on your recommendation. KILLER pedal! I’ll say it till I’m blue in the face, this is the best live stream on the internet!
Great show as usual! Please, have Johan back...I'm sure he could have shared many more interesting information and stories, but I also understand you guys have to prioritise the top chat, which sometimes turns the show into an "Ask Dave" episode. But that's fun too!
Love Johan. But this seemed like another Ask Dave episode. I would have loved to hear more from Johan.
Thanks for watching. We asked the questions that people posted. If you wanted to know more I wish you would have asked more to Johan. We asked a lot to him though.
I agree with Troyguitarist.
Maybe I expected too much😉.
It could have been a fascinating discussing.
Next time😉.
Cheers!
@@tone-talk ,
I think This guy is a real connoisseur.
A real and deep discussion between Dave, him and you could have been super interesting.
I understand the super chat and all that, but maybe you missed a real opportunity to make a great tone-talk.
Your other guests were much more involved in the discussing.
Anyway,just my two cents😉.
Take care.
One of may favorite things about Johan’s videos is that there is no noodling or wanking. Just great classic riffing. He doesn’t try to wail or show off. I can’t stand someone “demoing” a piece of gear, and then trying to shred at a million miles per hour. You can’t hear the tone at all. Johan plays perfect riffs that fit the sounds he’s demoing.
Tone legend!
Interesting discussion about filtering and ghost notes. I have a blackface amp that has ghost notes but I stuck close to the original filter values when I recapped it. I don't want to sacrifice the great feel of the amp to reduce the ghosting.
Mismatched Power Tubes - I had a THD Flexi 50 that you could bias the power tubes independently, so you could run unmatched tubes, or intentionally run the tubes mismatched. I traded it in though for a 65 Amps Lil Whiskey Combo, with it's Friedman designed dirty channel, which I run the gain at 4 most of the time.
He's the epitome of "tone is in the hands". Everything he plays through, somehow, sounds like his plexis.
The only name Marc never failed on is the hardest one of all😁 just kidding ya Marc thanks for another great episode!!
Any of the Wampler Pinnacle or Plexi Drive pedals sound great on a Marshall type amp.
Let's go!
Johan the mad scientist of tone
LOL..when I saw the image for the video I thought Unbox Therapy was reviewing something Marshall.
Ace’s solo album is the best! Ok, so Sovtek El84Ms for my NightTrain and JJs for my Peavey Classic 20MH, thanks!
I met a guy who told me about his Marshall import side-gig. He used to rent a shipping container in california and fill them with bluejeans. He'd ship that to the UK to be sold, then fill the container with marshall cabinets & heads for the return leg. Unfortunately the time I met him he had moved on to Ferraris.
Johan is the expert on all things Marshall flavored
Re: non modern Marshall for 2500, I'd recommend a Suhr SL67. All of the tone with none of the reliability problems.
Laney GH100L with a few very cheap mods(if you know what you're doing) and it will cost a lot less than 2500
Bogner alchemist red channel played through black back G12 H 30 55hz 16ohm recone with vintage 30 16ohm cone kit upgrade power handling to vintage 30 spec the used Bogner Alchemist sell used for 300.00 to 400.00 used
BE 100 DELUXE IS KING
Johan’s videos are great! Anytime I wanna figure out the difference between those god awful Marshall model numbers, I can hear it in his videos.
The JCM 2000 DSL the original rules
JCM900 and TSLs are not Super Leads far as I'm concerned. Dave, isn't a 2203 an 800?
Marshall MA series tube amps are definitely the worst I have tried.
Your beard looks pretty bushy!
★★★★★
Its funny that someone making his living on modding and copying Marshall amps has so many negative comments about them. Stop talking about Marshall and talk about Me! Im Dave and i make modded Marshalls for triple the price! Lol
That’s because Marshall hasn’t made a decent amp since 1980. Thanks for watching
@@tone-talk you could probably get hundreds of thousands of people to disagree with that comment lol
@@tone-talk thats true. No im just giving u shit. I love your amps. Also, if you can answer. I have a 05 TSL100 with the Tim Caswell #39 mod on the crunch channel. But i also hear the mod on the lead channel, it just has more gain. Are the 2 channels connectedi guess? Even though the lead and crunch channels have seperate pots. Thanks
@@tone-talk I have a 1987 Marshall Silver Jubilee played through a 1982 model checkerboard cab from 1979 w original G12 H 80's and it sounds pretty good
Marc Who's Askin'? I thought your last name was Huzansky. Oh well, sounds about the same. Is that Polish?
@@tone-talk When i first saw it on the Ask Dave videos, i thought it was New York dialect because you were asking the questions to Dave. Then i realized it sounded like your name and it's brilliant. I was acting like Who's Askin' was your "real" last name, when i really meant is Huzansky Polish?
Great to see Johan on ToneTalk, been watching him for years. A man with a singular, defined mission (and a good one).
