    I only have 1 billy cage and I planned to add a second one just like you, but I have a question : aren't you afraid of the lack of ventilation in the bottom cage? (sorry for my bad english)

      JohnsPets I made a frame at the front so the glass can slide out and all you have to do is sweep everything out :)

    I just recently put together a single Billy cage and lid to see if I was able to do it - I'm not a very handy person - and now I sort of want to attempt this setup. The idea of sawing a hole in the bottom frightens me a bit though!
    I do like how you've painted the raw edges on the front white to match.

    I’m considering doing a DIY cage but my hamster is a big chewer when it comes to his bars because I believe he doesn’t have enough space, if I used wooden materials do you think my hamster would continue to chew and break the cage and manage to escape since he has gotten into such a habit of chewing his cage?

      You simply remove the top one and clean the bottom and then place the top one back on top again once your done ☺️

      Lay the largest side on the bottom for the most floor space and set the glass to one of the shorter sides...

      @@terriidoll Then don't lay the largest side flat on the bottom, use it as the back tall piece. Of course then the window made need to be made taller, possibly adding a second pane of glass...

      mines in it it’s perfectly fine however dont stack the cages as its not enough sq inch u have to put them side by side 😊

    Do the cage have to be white, or can it be black? I want a black cage, but i want it to be as safe for the hamster as possible☺️ If it’s unsafe with black paint, i would go for a white cage. Or is it the same?

      The billy comes in three colors, a wood veneer, white, and black... Your choice... The color doesn't matter...

    Hi, is it possible to hold the hamster in the lower cage if I have two hamsters? Or is the only way to reach the under cage by removing the top cage?

      Don't connect the two cages... Don't drill the hole and add a tube...

    Hi! I’m thinking of doing this I have one billy cage so far, did you stick the top cage to the bottom one or just balance it on top? Also can the hammy breathe okay in the bottom billy part?

      I just sat it on top 😊 yeah there is a gap between the glass and wood on each side on the bottom one 😃

      @@meganhancock7659 it doesn't make continuous floor space so the bottom cage is its own floor space and the top is its own this cage built this way isn't technically big enough for a hamster but if you put them side by side it will be 😊

      @@meganhancock7659 no because the floor space is split it doesn't add up to one floor, the hamster can't run freely across the full length of the cage I can't actually remember the sizes 😔

      JohnsPets awesome! I watched ErinAnimals cage build and she used aqua silicone but that's so hard to find. Hot glue is a lot cheaper and readily available. Does your hammy eat the glue?

    is it made from wood if it is get rid of it i bought a £75 wooden cage and i researched about it and peopel saying its a good cage and that hamsters cant get out because it rodent proof well they found a way they always do -.-

      Surely you are capable of building a wire mesh screen roof with some lumber... Some wood glue and the usage of a staple gun or u nails...

      Almost big enough for USA's current recommendation of 450 square inches. 448 is not that far away... Close enough to round up... I have had a Billy hamster cage for a few years when the USA's recommendation was 360 square inches. All of my Dwarfs have loved their cage...

      It might be strong enough to hold the glass, but hot glue is not safe for pets. It's a plastic based glue, so it can cause intestinal blockage if your hamster nibbles a piece of it.

      The billy is a bookcase not so tall, this extension is designed to top it off to make a bookcase taller... It is the billy extension that builds a hamster cage... The glass is ordered as a separate item but it is the billy glass shelf which will be used in the cage as the front window...

      Depends where you live. A Billy shelf is just shy of the USA's 450 square inches at 448 square inches. Frankly, that is close enough to meeting recommendations. A second cage could be added to the first with either a tube or by removing the side of both units... A double would end up being 896 square inches, large enough to meet Germany's recommendations...
