Powermatic III - Best Cigarette Rolling Machine

I just got this machine in January and so far, I love it. I've rolled my own for about 10 years now and had an old Topomatic for a long time. Compared to that, the Powermatic 3 is amazing. It takes about 4 hours to roll 2 cartons of cigarettes (or 400), though I do stop for breaks so I'm pretty sure, if I just kept at it, I could cut that down to 3 hours. With the old Topomatic, that would take me 2-3 days! This machine just works so fast. But I've seen some comments (not necessarily here) about people having trouble: About how the "HOPPER" light keeps appearing, etc. So here are a few tips that may help newbies.
1. If the "HOPPER" light appears, don't panic. Just press the button a second time and check the cigarette. It should be okay. It seems the hopper is very sensitive and the light will appear for almost no reason. At least no reason I can find. Well, there is one good reason-- when the hopper is empty. In fact, I think that may be one reason it will still work after the light appears.
Which leads to...
2. Run it (i.e., press the start button) a few times each time the hopper is empty, to clean it out. I find this helps it run better.
3. It's a good idea to get a tray to work on. It offers an area where you can pile up the tubes before and after, plus it keeps the tobacco from scattering while you work. You want those before/after piles so you can work more efficiently. I found the ideal tray in my local supermarket in the baking aisle (where they have all the tin roasting pans and baking pans.) They now also offer tin cookie sheets that are the perfect size (10"x15") and have a nice low lip all the way around. At my store cost $2.50 for a set of three.
4. I make a few weeks' worth of cigarettes at a time and keep most of them in the freezer. This keeps them from getting stale. You could also store them in an airtight container, but I just keep mine in the boxes they come in.
5. When the hopper gets low, you might get a "shorty"-- a tube that isn't half-full. If so, fill the hopper, tamp down what's in the tube and place it back on the machine. It will over fill it, but it WILL fill it. As for tamping, I find a chopstick or a crafter's stuffing filler stick very handy. (The second is usually included in bags of cotton stuffing, in the crafter's section.) They are both narrow enough to fit inside the tube and have a blunt end so it will force the tobacco to the bottom.
Anyway, I know this machine is not cheap. But it's well worth the amount of time and energy you save. Plus, so far, it's working great.
This machine is effortless. I love mine. 3500 and counting. Never had a problem.

I just want to mention that once upon a time there was a smaller size called "Regular." That was actually the original size of cigarettes. And that's where the shortest size on this machine comes from. I had just started smoking, back in the 1970's, when there was still all three sizes. In fact, for a short time, there were also 120's, too. Virginia Slims was the only brand that made those. They didn't last long, and eventually, they stopped producing Regular size, as well. Not sure when as I always smoked Kings or 100's. But, yeah. That's where the smallest size comes from-- the old days. LOL!

So not to be a mood killer for anything especially considering your comment is 2 years old when I'm seeing it, however I have to say I would not recommend starting , today at 42yrs old I found myself coughing up so much blood that I'm currently getting dressed to head to a pulmonology Appointment that they made for me immediately today after hearing my symptoms , didn't even want a referral from a primary, I believe it's to scan for lung cancer or check for something like that, but no matter how the scan goes, whether its really bad or something stupid, I am pretty sure I won't be smoking anymore..I only saw these comments cause I was going to go get a pm3+ today and was checkingout reviews first , instead I'm getting a chest scan. Do not start smoking, I got a 10 yr old kid and I'm a single dad, I have never been this scared about a doctor visit in my life.
I was ready to pres the BUY button, than I just watched this video and changed my mind, takes more time than my manual machine to fill a cigarette. I thought that with a $250 I would buy a machine that by pressing the start button it will make like 100 cigarette automatically.
But the thing about this machine there's no effort involved you simply press a button and you have a cigarette

Anyone who rates this any less than 4 stars needs to keep buying manufactured cigarettes lol I've been a RYO guy for many years and this machine is a beast after you get passed the learning curve.
I have two questions? How can I stop tobacco from sticking out of the made tube (king size on lowest setting) and to maintain does it need to be oiled, if so, where & how? I do brush it out after I make cigarettes. I love this machine especially since I have minimal use of my left hand and yanking on the manual ones makes my old lady shoulder sore.
How well does this work with stringy tobacco that you shred yourself from whole leaf?
Is golden harvest robust any good I'm using ohm bold and good stuff now with golden harvest tubes
I have the power matic II and way faster than the manual one. More consistent but still have an issue with the tobacco not going all the way to the filter, which requires me to pack a lot of the cigarettes after they're filled. Does the III have that issue?
I like the 2 better because I can pack the tobacco faster then the 3 does on its own
@@brandon9621 I bought the 3 since my post, and with the right tobacco (not stringy) you can smoke the 2. With the 3, I can roll a pack in less than 3 minutes
I don't have to pack,like I did with the other ones.

Once my friend buy 20 cigarettes in vacuum plastic bag and I was amazed how good that cigarettes was pack like when buy in store what machine for making that man use is question what will hunt me all my life! I have some elctric but cheap have like spiral what role and it's bad always fall embers I destroy half my bed and clothes
I roll mine on king and it's still to tight for my husband and I is there something I am doing wrong? I just got the machine yesterday and I would much rather use my hand crank one.
hello, i need some help please...all answers are welcome.... has anyone ever seen filterless cigarette tubes? or an electric cigarette roller for filterless tubes? my FIL recently purchased the new powermatic and we are all so very pleased. his buddy smoke camel spitters and was interested in rolling his own as well, my FIL asked me to find what his buddy needs and i have looked all over amazon and beyond and can not find anything . please help me? thank you so much sincerely Roki M.
I'm looking for a machine that allows me to control density for 100's.
If I understand the explanation given this machine only does this for kings by packing 100's worth of tobacco into a kings tube.
Any way to increase density for 100's?

have 2 electric machine there junk since cant buy parts for them like the manual machine . plus on my topo matic can make cigarettes faster on them instead of the automatic machines
Rod Rowzee, have you actually tried the Powermatic III? I can assure you that is is a lot faster than the manual machines.
You won't go wrong with any Powermatic 2 or 3. I have had Powermatic 2 for 5 yrs,I even bought an extra 1 and that one's still brand new in box. I have rolled millions of cigs with it! Very happy!

Can you comment the full name of the Kentucky Select tobacco you use? Our machine doesn't work very well with the Cheroke Red (07122 10001) we use

I have Powermatic 2. This Powermatic 3 won't do 100's. I been smoking 100's for 30 years, I'm not changing,but did change to your company for tobacco, but I'm still with smoke spirits for my Dad's chew. Don't know if you carry chew? Couldn't find any. PM3 does 100'slike a champ, much better than my PM2

@@bigmikefrompa.3063 Well I have the PM3+ and I make 100's perfect on it so the video you watched is incorrect. I OWN one and it does 100's even has a selector for them. The PM2 which I also own does 100's but not as easily as kings, the PM3 is 100% better
I also use this for 100s... side note: I keep my finger pressed slightly on the tube to make sure it fills by the butt but other than that I love this machine

It takes too much time for machine to "put tobacco in chamber". If it's automated, then speed must be much faster. And definitely faster than manual way (like in Top-O-Matic). I agree, this machine is "effortless", but hell... if it works so slow, for me easier to train how to put tobacco faster in Top-o-matic!
Great point. I've seen a video of someone rolling a cartoon in 30 minutes with the Top-O-Matic.
I have a top-o-matic and it's easy to use 100s tubes and pack the freshly rolled cigarettes 20 at a time. Then use scissors to trim the excess paper off. My favorite thing about the T-O-M manual roller is that you can use pipe tobacco instead of cigarette tobacco. Tastes the same but costs much less due to taxes on "cigarette" tobacco. Golden Light is a great brand and Red River is good also. Costs @ 60% of cigarette tobacco.
