"I'm waffling a bit", could be the name of your channel. heh
at least there good direct reviews, unlike many others on youtube, that previously un-boxed and went over it off camera. :)
The tip protector is actually an alignment tool to set up the tips.
+john flower - good point
£38 quid in UK. Thanks for the review
Nice to have an alternative to blowing those little surface mount buggers all over the bench using the hot air station.
AllTheGearNoIdea - yep been there done that!
This will be an interesting watch. Someone wanting to sell me dirt cheap. Imagine my surprise when i search on youtube and someone i'm subbed to has a vid. Will be liking ;)
Dave Hammerton - handy.
From someone that only recently started doing smd work. Me! (hobbyist) Initially you weren't selling it to me. Looked like 2 standard soldering irons stuck together. It's not for fixing Iphones at a guess. But yeah, it really looked good for removing/replacing smd soldered parts. I love hot tweezers. You can just use the one end, when adding, and grab both ends to straighten out or remove. Love that surface tension thing. Not telling a old dog how to do new tricks. I am a novice. But i'm going to get some of these to try out. Your link showing £33 uk. I'll use to buy ;) Talking about old dogs new dogs......... Put in my place,,,,, But..... I didn't see you check the earth to tip. ;)
Yes they do like nicely made and i like the mid cable controller too, very intuitive to use, even for monkey like me lol :-D.
The temp sensor will be at the elements tip, so those extentions will be colder, so bung the setting up a little to counter that :-).
I would shim the pivot of the handles so you get less sideways drift.
And i was also thinking the tips needed to be bent inwards slightly so they end up flat with the smd when clamping pressure is applied.
Try using them from above the component only, the tips look flatter at the ends.
Dam don't i rattle a lot ha ha :-D
No muttering "like the other half" :)
mine got the tips turns in red when operating and the led indicator not lighting but it has heat. is this normal?
Ren Castro - no, it sounds like it has a fault.
what do you think is the fault? it is overvoltage input?
i mean not really red in color, just orange.
I really don't know, if it is getting so hot that it changes colour, then something is either not controlling the heater, or the heater control is shorted out.
Como puedo cambiar la resistencia termica porcelana a tener cuatro cables dos rojos y uno negro , se me ha quemado la que trae
Lo siento, no lo se
Use it on a smd led see if it lights it up! Then your know if it's esd safe
That test will not work.
I just purchased one of these and find them a waste of money.... Mine does not work as intended and the black crew down component for the right side tweezer was split. I think I'll stick to a soldering iron and normal tweezers :)
with all the cheap SMD and rework tools out there now, my list of excuse to not repair things is shrinking rapidly :(
Thanks for the review. I won't be buying one, though. I can do the same job with a regular iron and tweezers.
I have always used tweezers and a normal iron myself too, but there have been times when having a tweezer soldering iron would of made the job a lot easier! (that is why i decided to get one of these, I knew it would come in handy at times).
Tweezers can make it easier especially when you’re trying to remove one tiny capacitor in the middle of a row of 20 or so.

rather have a base for controller this would be floping around on bench
Yes something that crossed my mind to say in the video (and then forgot), was that it would of been nice to have a velcro backing on the controller, so that it could be stuck to the bench/shelf/wall to keep it under control.
zip ties come to mind for me.
I've also had a play with this device, it's very useful:
czcams.com/video/hyGF63irivg/video.html
all this bullshit but i havent seen a single video showing if you can and how to replace the tips and most imposrtant are they easy to find or not ?
