Very helpful thank you. Didn’t know about the need to reset after each buttonhole. Haven’t seen that mentioned anywhere else

That’s great Cheryl, test on the same number of layers etc before doing on your actual garment. Alison xx

Thanks for the tip about the pins! This is my first time doing buttonholes on m second-hand machine, although I've used it a lot. I notice on your first buttonhole, and on mine, the second side has narrower stitches! How can I avoid that?

Thanks for you comment. It is the stitch length that is different not the stitch width.
To correct difference of the stitch length of the left and right side of the buttonhole, you can play about with the stitch length until the sitches on both sides are balanced.
On some machines there is a hidden dial to adjust the foward/backward stitch balance but the Janome 725s doesn't have this function.
      Hope this helps.

My machine saws one side but then won’t sew back down the other side! Any ideas, please? It just stops and sews a stitch in one place

Is your buttonhole lever down correctly? Is it sitting between the 2 parts of the buttonhole foot that set the length? Is the fabric even? Is there anything blocking it (something like your fingers or a patch pocket)? Is the buttonhole foot level? Alison xx

Mine does something similar - the first side is perfect, bit the return is just straight stitch. I've never had this happen before and the machine has just been serviced. I've checked all the settings, dials and levers!

@@alexkiernan133 did it also do this before it was serviced or just after the service? I would suggest this is a fault with the machine, rather than operator error. Alison xx
