A sign of a great band is that there's no consensus on what their "best record" is (arguably). Love that they consistently put out amazing music and none of their albums sound alike

Also Wowee Zowee has unexpectedly become my favorite Pavement record, in my eyes (ears) it's the White Album of the 90s.

I think Mellon Collie achieves that title but I definitly prefer wowee zowee

Having adored Pavement since I was a teen in the 90s, It's so nice to see my favourite band finding appreciation a generation later. Kudos.

Love Pavement... If you haven't, I seriously recommend listening to his albums with the Jicks. Basically classic Malkmus songwriting but with more competent musicians for a band. His debut solo record is at least a must listen for Pavement fans, some classic tracks on there.

Slanted and Enchanted is the best Pavement album imo. The story behind CR,CR is actually that Malkmus wanted to take classic rock that he didn’t like and make it his own, make it sound better. I love it, don’t get me wrong. But Slanted I think is the most Pavement-y.

You do have a great point. Slanted does have it's own sound in comparison to CR,CR or even Wowee Zowee. Regardless, a wonderfully rich discography full of weird twists and turns when it comes to the Pavement fellas

Wowee is the best rock record of the 90’s

if you extend that thought a bit further then their most pavement-y masterpiece is watery, domestic

The best band of the 90s for me. My ranking of their albums!
    1. Wowee Zowee (1995)
    2. Slanted and Enchanted (1992)
    3. Brighten the Corners (1997)
    4. Terror Twilight (1999)
    5. Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain (1994)
All their albums are great, but honestly I’m definitely of the opinion that Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain is kinda Pavement at their weakest honestly. But still, The Velvet Underground of the 90s!

Respect. Over the years, my opinions on these albums have changed quite a bit, but goddamnit I love all of their music. I finally saw them live last month for that first time ever and it was incredible. Also, did you see they announced a Slanted and Enchanted Musical coming next month? Sounds weird as hell, but I might make my way up to NYC to watch a showing

@@ForeverSpinning Sounds fun! I could see Malkmus wearing a literal crown and king’s robe on a sandy mountain singing “I’ve been crowned..the king of it!!” Lol

I've never been a huge fan of Terror Twilight. It's not a bad album, but I think there are better Pavement albums out there for new listeners

CRCR is what I recommend to people who need something "comfortable" but once you start to dig S&E you become a real Pavement fan. I'd recommend S&E if it is someone that is open to weird music and not afraid to listen to an album a handful of times before they start to like it. All the EPs and singles they released in their early years are amazing as well. Every single song on Watery, Domestic is perfect and it is one of the best EPs ever made imo. If they would've added 3 more songs to Watery Domestic and released it as an album it would've been another 10/10 album although the sonics are similar to S&E
